Bleach-Episodes 151-153

How on Earth does this arc have another 12 episodes left? Surely it's at it's climax now...

Sword Art Online-Episodes 11-14

Episode 11: It's kind of funny how Kirito just wanted to play a video game and now he's got a wife and child :p

Episode 12: I feel like the emotional impact in this episode would have been way better if they introduced Yui then had her hang around for several episodes before the reveal.

Episode 14: Very unexpected episode, makes me wonder what direction the rest of the series will take.

Waiting in the Summer / Ano Natsu de Matteru Episodes 1-12 & OVA

I quite enjoyed this one, it was a surprisingly effective teen relationship drama. I've written a bit more about it in the rating thread.

Possibly related but I'm now somewhat behind on the simulcasts, I was hoping to watch a lot this season, for a change. I might be able to catch up, we'll see.

Sweetness and Lightning / Amaama to Inazuma Episode 2.

Still a great show so far. I'm also finding it interesting to try and figure out if the show is hinting at stories or if it's just coincidentally showing things. For example, Kotori sitting on her own during break times would suggest that she's pretty lonely even at school and that's on top of the fact that she doesn't seem to actually see her mother much. It's possible that I'm reading too much into things but there are a lot of little moments like that and the first episode would suggest that they're deliberate since it also followed through on some of it's hints. I suppose it doesn't really matter because the show could probably get by with just the cuter aspects but I hope that it does delve into some of those issues a bit more in future.

New Game Episode 2.

Still good fun. Apparently going for drinks after work is kind of an important part of Japanese working culture, it's interesting to see things like that represented and played with in different ways even if it's not something familiar. The Senpai/Kouhai systems often found in Japanese culture are another aspect that I find quite interesting, especially as applied to "adults". New Game probably isn't the best example and isn't exactly serious but then seeing how they have fun with these ideas has an appeal of it's own.

Been away for a few days as I was moving, but somehow managed to watch more anime than normal...

Twin Star Exorcists - Episodes 10-14
I'm still really enjoying this, but it's a shame Pierrot have dropped the ball so much on the pacing. I mean somthing actually has to happen at some point, right?

Also, people are cticising episode 14 for being a recap episode, but I'd point out that it technically made it further than Hunter x Hunter did before it's first recap episode, and has far more original material in it's recap episode than other series have. It's also weird that hidden within the recap episode are some of the series' more interesting emotional moments. As well as the first time anybody outside of the couple calls ******** on the whole 'Twin Star Exorcists' thing, which is especially interesting given how hellbent the series is on pairing the two up regardless of whether they want it or not, and what could possibly be read as meta-commentary on the series and shonen plotlines as a whole. Whilst it's a shame that the series has had to do a recap episode so early, this episode is really well done and makes me optimistic that when/if the series ever gets it's act together, it will be more than the worse the mostly disaposable but still somewhat enjoyable, episodes so far.

It's also a shame episode 14 suffers some questionable grammatical choices during one of the voice-over portions. Hopefully, Crunchyroll will fix that for their home video release.

Free!: Iwatobi Swim Club - Episodes 01-12 (Complete)
Not sure what to say about this, as I wrote something longer for "Rate the Last Anime You Watched" thread, but to summarise I rather enjoyed it and people should ignore the way it gets talked about by certain anime fans, it's not that show. Watching this has made me disappointed in some members of this site though, as they've completely dismissed it, but I think they'd really enjoy it.

just re-watched flcl, and i... still don't get most of it

though i suppose it's about a pre-teen's raging hormones messing with his perceived reality or something like that

Did you post in the rating thread and I'm just missing it or were you planning to post something later?

I wonder if the misunderstandings about Free have more to do with people who haven't watched the show reading too much into what fans are talking about or if it's due to fans failing to make a clear distinction between what actually happens in the show and how they're interpreting it. I'd suspect it's more the former, to be honest. I do think that Free provides some decent material for fans to get what they want out of the show but it does it in a way that still leaves things open for other ways to enjoy the show. I think that's probably fairly standard for shows of the type and I'm certainly including a good few shows that people might consider "cute girls doing cute things".

If you enjoyed Free, I'd be tempted to recommend Bamboo Blade. They're probably quite similar in the way they handle their sport and characters. I do wonder what you might think of Kinmoza or something along those lines too. I suppose it at least partly depends on exactly what you liked about Free.

New Game!-Episode 3

More moe goodness. Not really a lot to say.

Bleach-Episodes 254-256

Episode 255: Well, I'm kind of glad that arc's over, it was really starting to drag. However, I'm not delighted to hear there are another 10 filler episodes of, what I can only assume, will be garbage, non arcing filler. However, despite that, I do appreciate how meta the show is in it's after credit gags, where it actively apologises for there being filler.

Episode 256: Well, at least the filler is tangentially related to the last arc, I guess. Still not good though...

Sword Art Online-Episode 15

If they're heading in the direction I think they are (which is almost a certainty), I think that's actually a pretty nice and sweet way to get Kirito back into the game world.

I haven't posted it yet, I still need to write the conclusion.

I wonder if Crunchyroll and Funimation have been encouraging the misunderstandings for attention. I seriously doubt the show would be as well-known if it hadn't gained the reputation it has. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to discover it was KyoAni's most successful show in the West, despite KyoAni fans being dicks about it...

I'm not sure you're supposed to understand it.

It would be interesting to do a simulwatch of it though, just to see how everyone interprets it.

Just watched Expelled from Paradise and i'll be honest i wasn't expecting much going into it but i found it very good. The ending though i found it quite sad that the AI didnt have any companions on his voyage

Despite all the comparisons (and apparently overt references) to the Godfather, I actually got more of a Miller's Crossing vibe from this episode.
