What Music are you listening to? Discussions Welcome!

In the car I was just listening to an eclectic mix of JoJo sono chino sadame, Aretha Franklin and Rammstein.

I watched 'Respect' the other day, the Aretha Franklin film and it was really good.

I just gave Geordie Greep's first solo single "Holy, Holy" a listen that he released not long after announcing Black Midi's indefinite hiatus as a band.

Follow up to this post I made a month back because the album came out recently and my expectations were both met and surpassed.

The Greepster is an absolute icon in indie music at this point and this is probably gonna be one of if not my top album of the year. Highly recommend it if you enjoy Art Rock/Prog Rock music.

Greep's lyrics and storytelling capabilities are as incredible as they've ever been; his accent is as rich and captivating as always; and the project just has such a diverse range of influences that it blends together seamlessly, sounding like a mix of Masayoshi Takanaka, Steely Dan, Frank Zappa, and early King Crimson. I'm obsessed.

(And if you can't sit through the whole album, at least give The Magician a listen, best track on the album and probably one of Greep's best songs, counting both his solo work and in Black Midi.)

It's a rly great remix album, I'm usually not the biggest fan of remix albums, but wow! 🙂 xx

Great stuff, this is also a great one, cant recommend it enough,Fugazi and Wu-Tang-Clan get the remix treatment,if you are a fan of either band you are sure to find a lot to enjoy.

Another great one.

Been listening to the new Bôa Album Whiplash. You may recognise Bôa from their song Duvet which was the opening theme to Serial Experiments Lain. Been enjoying it.

Just gonna link a few of the songs that I've been enjoying recently.

My Youtube recommendations really did their job with this one, have had the video on loop the entire past week and it will not get out of my head (in the good way).

Found this yesterday through it being referenced on a Bocchi The Rock manga chapter cover and it's just a really good track. (though I'm sure I've heard a producer sample this song before, not sure where).

A classic, nuff' said.

Somewhat underground Tokyo-based rapper that I found in a pretty roundabout way, but I enjoy his production a lot, especially in this track.

Went to Japan last month. Bought back, er.... one or two CDs, lol.

Here's my haul. 250 CDs, plus some music blu rays and DVDs. Almost all of them second hand, and the vast majority of those were no more than £2 or £3 each.

A big motivation for the holiday was specifically for this - to search for the albums that have meant so much to me over the years, and to find them for the best possible price.

Hopefully the photo resolution is high enough for you to zoom in on the spines and see what's going on. I've organised it roughly into genre, but I've split some genres into multiple columns so it all fits in one picture. Big mix of genres - pop, rock, visual kei, idol, indie, electronica, anime songs, and some western stuff too. Reply if you see any that you know and love!

As a big CD collector myself I find myself incredibly jealous of being able to get such a big haul.

I went to Japan back in like march and picked up a bunch brand new, around 20 maybe? Though I do most of the time just import the ones I want 2nd hand anyways so there wasn't too many on my wishlist for that trip I didn't already have.

Some awesome picks in there btw.

Nice! What ones did you buy brand new on your last trip?

For me, new CDs in that batch include the Malice Mizer (lol, not a new band, but it's a new CD), Zutomayo, Sexy Synthesizer, a couple of Official Hige Dandism, Nemophila, and the TM Network album Major Turn-Round. There's others that are new too, but that list is off the top of my head.

Oh wow you're gonna test my memory here lol. I'll need to cross-reference my discogs to recall it all.

So for artists/bands, I picked up some Nujabes, iyowa, PinocchioP, Sayonara Ponytail, Tats Yamashita, Ichiko Aoba, Casiopea, Hakushi Hasegawa, FLOW, Masayoshi Takanaka, and Nick Drake.

I picked up some soundtracks too, like the Studio Ghibli song collection, Suzume and Houseki no Kuni OSTs, and an Initial D eurobeat collection.
