What manga are you reading now?

My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer volume 1: despite the rather clunky title (which the author apologises for in the afterword), this is a tale of an adventurer who retires to his village very early, after losing a limb, when he finds a baby in the woods, which he raises and trains. At the age of 12 (!) she goes off to to the city to be an adventurer and rapidly rises to the top of the charts. So good is she, that she is unable to return to see her dad and friends for over five years due to the number of monsters only she can conquer. It's more a look into being separated from loved ones, the burden placed on those who are too good at their jobs and too nice to say no, as well as the joys of the simple life in the countryside.

I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what happens next (I think there are at least ten volumes so far). Update after checking Wikipedia: Oh, I see there is also an anime. Must check that out too. :)

The anime is pretty good, although it does cut out quite a lot of content that's not relevant until later. Not the biggest crime of course, but I felt it lost some of its depth due to that. The LNs are great though, I hope you enjoy the rest if you carry on to the end! :)

Reincarnated as the Piggy Duke: This Time I'm Gonna Tell Her How I Feel! volume 8: I feel we have truly jumped the shark in this series. The grammar is getting worse (do we blame the author or translator?) and the story was very silly. Even though I've paid for v9, I doubt I'll bother unless I'm really desperate.

Oh well, back to My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer volume 2, which has so far been an action packed tale of life on the farm in a little village on the edge of nowhere.

Lore Olympus Volume 7 (Hardcover) - Still so good, can't wait to find out what happens next and it's sooo romantic! 🥰

Vampire Hunter D Volumes 5-6 Dramatized Adaptation Audiobooks - These are so fun and entertaining even if they are a bit silly, I really enjoy every volume :)

Been reading a lot of the Fujimoto Tatsuki shorts

Goodbye Eri and Shikaku are my two favorites but all have been pretty good

Going to finish 17-21 then follow on with 22-26 as they're well worth the read. I would read Chainsaw man but I really can't be arsed with 19+ volume series at the moment

RuriDragon Volume 1 - Ruri Aoki wakes up with horns and her mother explains over toast it's because her dad is a mythology creature. And rather than worry about it Ruri decides she better get to school on time. Which is the fantastic introduction to the nonplused tone Masaoki Shindo's slice-of-life series is aiming for. Everything is so understated that it loops around to being absurd in its own right. Our tomboy heroine Ruri being undeniable proof of the supernatural is just an excuse for her classmates to finally try to talk to her. The series really stood out in Shonen Jump's lineup when it talked in 2022 because its total rejection of the bombast action to instead focus on very naturalist dialogue. When Shindo needed to take a sudden hiatus over health concerns the first volume sold extremely well in Japan. Your enjoyment of the series will entirely depend on if you find this exceptionally low-key approach to a girl learning to socialise and sometimes breathing fire charming or not. Thankfully I do. The art is simple but expressive and it moves at a good pace.

Kiss the Scars of the Girls vol 3 (complete)
Sister act.
Been 10 months since I read volume 2, so had forgotten some stuff. But I picked up the main thread quickly. It definitely felt rushed at the end, I guess it got cancelled at some point. It was satisfying enough, but the story itself wasn't the best I've read and was a bit too melodramatic at points.
Art was nice though.
6/10

Die Wergelder vol 6
Tricks up their sleaves.
This is the end, for now! As I mentioned earlier Bookwalker has it as complete, but there's a 7th volume out in Japan and Kodansha USA (the English publisher) has it listed as ongoing on their website (Bookwalker being Kadokawa).

Dragon Ball Super - Chapter 104

I'm not sure if this one-shot counts as Chapter 104 or not but at the very least Viz Media does.

It's been almost a year since we've had a new chapter and this prequel to the mini-prequel arc of Super Hero was a fun, slice-of-life chapter with some surprising cameos for the more hardcore DB fans.

Vampire Hunter D Volume 7 Dramatized Adaptation Audiobook - The start of the first two-parter in the series, I'm keen to see how it concludes in Volume 8! :)

Daytime Shooting Star Volumes 5-7 - I really love this series and am looking forward to reading the remaining 5 volumes of the main storyline (Vol. 13 is bonus, not published in English sadly but at least we get a conclusion I believe) :)

I'm slowly working my way through the first volume of the Initial D omnibus and I'm remembering why I fell in love with this series, what, 20 years ago?

Hoping to finish off the first 4 volumes before number 5 comes out in a couple of weeks.

Invaders of the Rokujyōma!? volume 9-11: Well, Koutaroua has returned from his adventure in a galaxy far far away in time and space (volumes 7.5 and 8.5, just to confuse everyone as they must still be read before volume 9). These volumes wrap up a few loose ends in the recent past concerning Kiriha, give some surprising action against Ruth (and Theia) and answer all the questions about Sanae. Still a very entertaining series .... and just another 35 or so novels to go (so far).
