Today I read volume 15-21 of BECK. Woooooooow! I'm so addicted to this!
13 volumes in 2 days? Yep, I can tell you're addicted to it =) Do you know how many volumes Beck is in total?

According to MAL, it's 34 volumes long.. There has only been 12 volumes released in the uk so far, I think I remember someone telling me they had canceled(or delayed, for a long time) it. Which is a pity with this been such an awesome manga! :x

I've checked amazon and they listed V13 to be released in june this year. I hope they start it up again.

Yeah, this manga is wayyyy under rated!

Volumes 27-32 of BECK. I can feel this slowly coming to the end. It was weird, though; The scene where the taxi drives away in volume 31 with that mole guy and the other music producer I nearly cried. It was strangely emotional :p

After re-reading Vol. 1-6 before moving onto the final two volumes, I finally managed to finish reading the NHK manga just now. My feelings are pretty mixed about it... I enjoyed reading it a lot but, at the same time, I was often thinking that there was way too much needless content included - far more than in any other version of the NHK story. Because the huge amount of needless content, my enjoyment levels dropped quite a lot after the first two volumes. If only for the fantastic art I can't score it lower than 8/10, though.

Vol. 8 was by far the most disappointing volume in the entire series. It all seemed so pointless and, in comparison to the earlier volumes, it was far less entertaining. There was lots of chatter included yet I never really cared about what was being said, or even followed a lot of it. The story just never went anywhere in the final volume, instead going around in circles as Misaki pushed forward with her love contract, Satou went along with it because he had nothing else and Yamazaki rambled incomprehensibly about starting a revolution. All I saw was the difficult to follow conversations of not-so-sane people that were put in to extend the story to 40 chapters.

I've said this before but I wasn't best pleased with how the original story was changed. There were lots of small (but important) changes that were made in the manga version, some of which seemed to have been made as the manga was on-going, an example of which being how Satou first said he wasn't a virgin (in the novel and anime he slept with his senpai whilst still at school) and then later said he was. The most bothersome change was how, in the manga, Misaki only lied about having a bad childhood - it made her difficult to like character into an even more hard to like character. Too many changes were made in order to extend the length of a fairly short story.

On the flipside, I liked the first two chapters of volume 7 a lot. The events that took place in those chapters never occured in either the novel or anime, and they were only able to work so well because Satou was still a virgin in the manga. Kashiwa's easily my favourite character in NHK, and the so near yet so far romance between Satou and her is the most emotional part of the NHK story for me, so a few chapters that gave the pair more time together were very welcome additions. It was nice to see Satou confess his feelings in this version of the story...even if he later went back on what he said because he didn't have what it would've took for him to take his relationship with her onto the next level.

I don't like how open ended every aspect of the NHK story is, but I've always found the relationship between Satou and his senpai (Kashiwa) to be touching. I actually came close to crying during episode 14 of the anime simply because Satou let her go. The reader/viewer fully understands why Satou doesn't do what his heart tells him to with her, but it's always hard to watch when you know the two could've been happy together. If only Satou had had the balls to put his arm around her when she was crying way back when he wasn't a recluse and she wasn't a married woman - his future might have turned out slightly happier. What makes the whole thing even more agonizing is the fact that Satou is a better match for her than her the guy she ended up marrying...

Anyway, to sum it up, my thoughts are that, although still very good, the manga version of the story is the weakest of the three versions of the NHK story. It has some nice additions to the story but the majority of the new content doesn't actually add anything. We didn't need to see Satou spend time at his parents, coming up with masturbation plans whilst he was supposed to be finding work, and we also didn't need to see Satou spend some time wondering around homeless. The novel was a bit too short, the anime got the length just right and the manga dragged on for too long. I don't feel bad about spending over £40 on the manga but I do feel I should've spent the money on buying the anime instead.

I like reading your posts because they're just so, like, detailed and ****. I make it my mission to spend as many seconds as it takes to read your anime/manga updates because of the detail, like.

Whereas you make a life story of the last thing you read.

This topic doesn't specify whether you need a large post or a 1-liner, so please dont complain. I'm not saying your post before was wrong at all, but this one was uncalled for.

...You're complaing about me complaining about someone else? Well, screw you! I'm going to complain about you complaining on the behalf of someone I was complaining about. Bastard.

I dislike threads that draw in people who post only the title of what they've read/watched. Forums are discussion boards by nature, not list boards. MAL exists for a very good reason.

And I wasn't ******* serious in the first place, you idiot. I was pulling his leg because he posted the shortest post possible after my endless post. I'm sure you truly are a sodding scally. Blackpool my arse.

Finished reading through Berserk volume 21 earlier today, was a very good read, and i think thats the end of the arc it was on too, i'll need to wait till i get the next volume to make sure though. Character wise, i can see the few characters who have become have appeared more recently, becoming main characters and being generally interesting overall. I only wish that they had volume 22 in stock yesterday now.

Plan to start on Hellsing tonight, i expect it'll be better than Ultimate, but i'll wait till i get started before i jump to a proper conclusion.

Guys. Don't fight. Don't personally attack or bait one another. Chaz is correct that this topic has no particular rules, though a bite-sized review topic could be made as a spinoff for more in depth discussion if you'd like.

Formal warnings will be issued if this topic becomes a flame war.

On topic, I'm currently reading the first Phoenix Wright case files compilation which came out not long ago in the US. It's pretty much a doujinshi anthology - suitable for all ages - and has a very amateur feel. The art style changes with each short story as many fan artists contributed. It's cute though and helps fill in the gap waiting for the next game in the series to be made. Some stories are good, some are rather pointless; my favourites are the little 4 panel comics between chapters so far.

The book is pretty thick so even if some of the stories miss the mark it's still good value. I'll probably pick up the follow ups as they come out.

I'm sorry, my brain wasn't fully functional last night and I took my comments a bit too far. My mind is now closer to being as straight as an arrow.

I'd like to offer an heartfelt apology to Dracos for suggesting he should add more words...or, at the very least, letters to his posts. It was wrong of me to tell someone else what to do, even if I was using the word "like" and swearing a lot in an effort to show that I wasn't being deadly serious. If he so wishes, I'll type a formal letter of apology and send it to him via the AUKN PM system.

I also want to apologize for suggesting, for around the 6th time now, that Chaz is in fact from the Merseyside region of England. Since he was only doing what he thought was right by defending the honour of another forum member, it as nasty of him to suggest he enjoys stealing from the houses of others on a regular basis. I hope my comments didn't offend you in any way.

I'm not too sure what I want to read next. I'm tempted to re-read Death Note but the knowledge that I have lots of unread manga is putting me off doing so. I should really try to read some more of A.I. Love You, which has been a little on the dull side up to yet.

Sundome

This manga is a shamless tease, getting progressively raunchier yet always stopping just short of full blown porn. But much like the main character, Hideo, I can't get enough of it. Unfortunately it's a six month wait until the next volume, so I'll have to make do for now :(

Read through Hellsing 1 last night, was a very good read, and better than Ultimate i think. It had a tad more humour than i thought it would have actually, but thats never anything bad. Hah, i did have to laugh at the fact that its rated 13+, yet the violence is obviously a bit more than that. Looking forward to picking up volume 2 now, whenever i find it in store that is.

Well the title says it as it does actually mean "stopping short" or "stopping the moment before" I believe it is a sword practice but in the context of the manga it is obviously more related to Hideo's masturbation.

As for Aion's comments the title of the thread is what are you reading I would like to see him write one of his 5 page reviews (which I tend to ignore after 2 paragraphs) after only reading a few pages of a manga as I had at the time.

Spiral Volume 6. Well now it looks like I might get my wish and actually find out more about the blade children than was ever revealed in the anime. This volume was very much about showcasing the perception and fast strategising of the main characters. The character Kanon is introduced he is Eyes' best friend and trained many of the other blade children how to fight. But now he is here to hunt them down. . I also get this feeling we may find out at some point that Hiyono is more than she seems.

ok lets drop this discussion now, if you want to ask these sort of questions then do so in pm or a private chat.

any further continuation of this arguement will result in an official warning, that goes for everyone.

I'm re-reading Death Note. Right now I'm up to chapter 22. It's as wonderful as ever to read. I am, however, starting to lose interest because it's only a matter of time before I reach the pre-Higuchi Yotsuba boredom and sloooooow start to part 2.

Recently read the first two volumes of Otogi Matsuri, and I'm moderately looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I've enjoyed the artwork and the general atmosphere, but I can't help but feel that the story will become uber generic well before the end.
