I recently completed Persona 5S. The gameplay change worked pretty well and the story was more in-depth than I was anticipating. The new characters worked for the most part as well Ichinose’s obvious-to-predict betrayal and redemption notwithstanding.
I did find the requests repetitive in places though and wasn’t about to grind for all the bond rewards or a completed Persona compendium but got a solid playtime from the story and sidequests, and had a fun time with the game overall.
I am now playing through the recently released PS5 edition of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and struggling a bit to get adjusted to the turn-based combat, having been so used to the fighting styles of the previous six entries.
That said, Kasuga is already warming me over as the new central protagonist, and the signature humour of the series is still present so will be sticking with the game to give it a fair chance - if I could get used to the gameplay change with P5 S then hopefully the same will apply here.

I've been chipping away at Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle for a few months, and finally completed it. Definitely one of the more bizarre crossovers out there. It's also a surprisingly good Xcom clone.
One of the most enjoyable aspects is how much it subverts and makes fun of Nintendo's characters, something that I can't believe was allowed to this extent. Rabbid Mario looks like he'd have an injunction preventing him from going within 100 metres of a primary school. But the best has to be Princess Peach, who is a tank-class character wielding a shotgun. No sexist "crying power" for her this time, thankfully.
The only downside is that it runs out of steam halfway. It's a 30 hour game, but after the halfway point you're just facing reskinned versions of the same half dozen enemy types over and over. Even some of the later bosses are reskinned standard enemies. Also there aren't enough mission types: every battle is either "kill 'em all" or "Get from point A to B."
That said, the core mechanics remain enjoyable throughout. The game is often discounted to around £10, and for that price it's well worth buying.

Completed the Final Fantasy VII Remake after it was put on ps+ this month. Played through on easy as I'm not much of a gamer and I've never played any Final Fantasy before.
I have to say I loved it. The story was engaging, the characters were interesting and varied and likeable. The scenery was gorgeous and cinematic. Also the fact it was a linear story was a massive plus point for me. I don't like big open world games. I like playing through a linear story of set missions. So this game was basically perfect for me.
I almost rage quit when (big spoiler!: Jessie died I was so angry! Lol. But that just shows how invested I got into the whole thing. Absolutely fantastic game. It's basically all I did with my free time for 2 weeks and several days later I'm still thinking about it 10/10

The original is very interesting in terms of gameplay as well (my overall impressions I have on my blog). The versions on current platforms also has speed boost if anyone needs to speed up the grind from time to time.

Yeah a mate of mine is insanely into final fantasy. He even plays the card game. Hes been trying to get me into it for a while so hes been happy to tell me the differences between the 2 for this first part. Hes been good at not giving me spoilers for the rest though.
Interesting. The need for grinding is probably the biggest thing putting me off as it seems like a massive chore.

I think I only played through the original once. I was a little late to the party, so it wasn't on release (I didn't have a console during uni). Must have been about late '99/early '00 after I graduated when I got my PS1. I don't tend to replay games much I think the PS2 GTA Trilogy are my most played and I haven't touched those in ages either. When I was trophy hunting I would have to go through some games a few times, but just for the trophies rather than any enjoyment of the game.
I'm currently still working on Princess Connect Re: Dive and I mean working as it's become a bit like a second job just to keep up with other people especially in the PvP parts. I've managed to get 41/46 characters without paying any money (not strictly true, Google gave me £2, so I brought the cheapest pack which only gave me 1 gatcha pull). By logging in each day and doing everything that is available, plus special events that have popped up I've managed to build my squad enough to complete the available Normal PvE and nearly finish the available Hard PvE and get into the top 500 in both the available PvP. So there's plenty of opportunity to earn ways of getting the characters and to Power them up.
There's also lots of story to watch/read.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. I played the original many years ago, but never managed to finish it. I don't even remember much from original, sadly. Anyway, after spending a few hours with remake I can say only one thing - I love this game! The interaction between characters makes me giggle, seriously. And gameplay is so much fun!

Final Fantasy VII (for PlayStation 4)
After playing the remake and thanks to those who voted in my Twitter poll, I finally checked out the original 1997 version of Final Fantasy VII, using the PlayStation 4 version for my playthrough (which is a port of the PC release). This is basically the game that helped Squaresoft get more popularity back in the day and surprisingly I never played it. I did watch the sequel film Advent Children about 40 times when I was younger but never once did I consider the original. I think the issue was down to the gameplay which may be the reason why I never bothered with it, even though I have played through games that were similar back in the day such as Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS (which was ridiculously hard and is not recommended for newcomers) and Chrono Trigger (I never finished it but I quite enjoyed playing this on the Nintendo DS).
So Final Fantasy VII is the 7th major instalment in the JRPG franchise. It's a traditional turn-based type game where you control 3 characters in a battle that is timed so you have to take action in a quick but tactical matter. Most fights can be done by simply selecting Attack but there are moments where Magic and special individual abilities called Limits would be used. The Materia system is really good and I like being able to customise and share the abilities and skills between the characters, though I wish I was able to customise the Materia when I'm during the dungeons from characters that are not in the party because if one non-party character has your Restore materia you are screwed (thankfully this complaint has been amended in the VII Remake version).
Final Fantasy VII's original release was split across 3 discs and each disc basically covers a good idea on what the story covers. Part 1 focuses on Midgar, the game's first chapter of the story which takes around 5-6 hours depending on your speed, before eventually going out into the open-world that is traditional in the world of Final Fantasy. You start off walking around but later down the line additional options become available that makes travel much easier, such as riding Chocobos to using a vehicle.
Random enemy encounters are a thing in this game and honestly, I wasn't that bothered by it because the gameplay is very quick and fast-paced which is a surprise. As mentioned before, if you are levelled correctly, a majority of the fights can be sorted by using Attack only and maybe a Limit break or Magic that can hit every enemy in the battle at once. The boss fights are quite challenging and it's always recommended that you are prepared especially as some enemies can sneak in a quick easy blow that can knock out a party member.

Outside of the story, there is a couple of side-content available. There's a location where you can do battle arena stuff, bet on Chocobos and play random mini-games that would allow you to earn some items. The battle arena is also essential if you wish to acquire Cloud's final limit break. In addition to the side-content, you can also get two more party members; Yuffie followed by Vincent. Both of these characters have special requirements but are worth going through as each of them also has their own side-quests that add more background to the storyline.
Overall, after spending 35 hours playtime, getting to level 70 as Cloud, acquiring every limit break for each character and getting some of the unique materia available, I had a good time playing Final Fantasy VII and I can see why this game is beloved by many fans over the years. If you go for the current-gen versions you also have access to 3x speed mode which I highly recommend using to speed up the pace as it can take a while to get through some parts of the dungeons. There's also a Battle Enhancement Mode which I did use only for the limit breaks due to the requirements to spend like 70-80 kills per person twice to unlock limit breaks which can take multiple hours.
I also feel that Pokemon fire red is perhaps the best pokemon game to date. This was perhaps the first pokemon game that I played & since my childhood this game has stuck to me. I was recently playing alot of it with cheats pokemon fire. Man it was so amazing playing my fav childhood game. And tbh the game has only gotten better with time. The most awesome pokemon game man!
As for how I think the VII Remake will go, I suspect it'll need at least 4 parts overall if they want to expand everything that has been going on in the game i.e. Part 1: Disc 1's Midgar, Part 2: Disc 1's Open-World up to Forgotten City, Part 3: Disc 2's Journey to Whirlwind Maze, Part 4: Disc 2 & 3's Cloud & co. coming together to save the planet.

Completed Game #6 | Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (PS4)
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is a remaster of the classic 2007 Action RPG game developed by Vanillaware (13 Sentinels, Dragon's Crown) and published by Atlus. I bought the game back in July 2018 and finally played it recently. From the get-go, the game's art design is breathtaking and the English dub is really good, though the dialogue taking breaks during discussion due to the bubble text is rather off-putting. You do have the option to play the game with Japanese voices of course.
Anywho, this is about a young girl and her cat reading stories centred towards five different individuals who you can control and each have different fighting styles. Most of them are sword based but you also have a bow gun and a whip weapon of sorts. The game's level up system depends on you defeating enemies or simply eating food that you can either grow, have them made in an outdoor restaurant or spend the money at a village cafe. The money can be earned by finding random coins on the go or defeating enemies in a special zone where earning enough points gives you better rewards.
The story of Odin Sphere is covered through different books, with each book also structured as seven chapters plus a prologue and epilogue. In each chapter, you go through a set of areas/corridors that are either empty, have hidden paths to secret items, a battle against foes, a mini-boss fight or a major boss battle to wrap up the chapter. The battles can be done quickly and have a variety of enemies so it doesn't end up being too samey unless you revisit that location. Each chapter can take you at least 30 minutes if you get every Photon item and recipes on the map. Photons can be used to unlock new abilities that can be upgraded, while the recipes are there to make new potions (for support or to be used against enemies) or add more food options in the outdoor restaurant.
Gameplay is very good in general and having different characters with different playstyles adds a variety to the mix to avoid repetition. The story is also strong though it can be a bit messy in the narrative due to the individual stories taking place at different parts of the timeline, for instance one is set before the other and vice versa. The final book also has different alternate scenes so your choices in that part of the story can make a difference to what ending you get. A Boss Rush mode can be unlocked after story completion which is located in the Epilogue chapter for each character that has an area with 30 different boss fights.
Overall, Odin Sphere is a really solid game and the art design, music, dub and gameplay were all very good with only minor issues in general. I also acquired the Platinum trophy with a playtime of 26 hours. The trophies are essentially finishing the story, acquiring all of the Photons, recipes and scenes during the final book, plus you'll want to eat the food at the outdoor restaurant as you progress to save yourself a lot of time. You do not need to fully upgrade your Photon abilities and only one character is needed to have all of the boxed abilities acquired (which are earned with a point that is achieved when you level up, with 65 in total needed to complete it).
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is available to own physically and digitally on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita (plus PlayStation 3 for Japanese owners).

I'm scared about the PS3 store maybe shutting down, so I've been playing some of the games that have been clogging up my download history for the past decade.
I started Jak & Daxter again - I played a bit of it years ago, but I had no idea what was going on so I started again.
It's alright. The platforming is very "Kingdom Hearts" (slow, clunky, imprecise and a bit frustrating), but there's lots of stuff to collect and I like that.

I used to play Warcraft, then League of Legends, recently passed Detroit: Become Human, that game really impressed me! I found a list of anime about gambling, and I watched Legendary Gambler Tetsuya and Mahjong Hishouden: Naki No Ryuu, looking for games similar to these anime

It's a free game, but apparently it's not getting a UK release (only USA, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Japan), so I used my other profile to download it.
It's a nice rhythm game, but unfortunately I won't be able to get much use out of it. It only comes with eight songs (out of 125) - the rest are DLC, but I've got no interest in messing around trying to buy foreign PSN cards.

Finally finished up Yakuza Kiwami. Had to take a break as my old RSI flared up again on my wrist (the xbox controller is probably a bit too big for my small hands haha)
I love the Yakuza series so much. I own Kiwami 2 and the rest have popped up on PC now too so will get to them at some point.
As for now, I'm probably gonna take a break from controller heavy games. Might consider Fallout New Vegas next, or Resident Evil 3 if it's not too bad with a keyboard. Haven't decided yet.

I finished A Winter's Daydream.
It's a really sweet visual novel - it's very short (you can finish it off in an hour or two depending on your reading speed) and there aren't any routes (or really much interaction - you just press X to move to the next page), but A) it's only about £5 and B) it's a very nice story.
The writing is simple and not bogged down by too much trivial chitchat or unnecessary details. There are happy parts, sad bits, a few funny lines - presentation wise, the font is a decent size and I don't recall seeing any typos or weird phrasing. It's all pleasing to the eye too - I can't really find any negatives with it TBH (the short length is reasonable, considering the price).
I think the visual style and the story would probably to appeal to a lot of people here, so I'd recommend it to anyone who's fine with short games with not much actual "game" to them.

This was my third Atelier game, after Iris and Ryza, and it might be my favourite so far. Ryza was great, but I was a little disappointed that the plot turned into a standard defeat-the-ancient-evil scenario towards the end. Firis never goes in that direction, or at least not on the main quest-line. It's structured in two halves: first Firis has one in-game year to gather enough recommendation letters from other alchemists for her to be allowed to take the exam to become a registered alchemist herself. If she manages to pass the exam, the credits roll, and all I expected was a brief epilogue. Instead, from that point it turns into a free-form open world game where you follow quest-lines from various characters. A lot of this starts in the first half, but there isn't time to complete them all while that time limit is in place, and more quests unlock once the time limit has been removed.
There were only a couple of things I didn't like. At a few places in the story, you have to perform 'mass synthesis', which involves creating items on a huge scale so they can be used as components of something unusually large and complex. This is a total grind since you can only create 2-5 of an item at a time, at most, and these recipies call for around 100 items in total, often with some of those requiring other items to be created first to use as raw materials. Fortunately only a couple of these mass synthesis tasks are mandatory. The regular synthesis you perform most of the time is enjoyable, with a Tetris-esque block puzzle used to enhance items.
The other issue was that the game never explains in advance exactly what the alchemy exam entails. Since I didn't know if it would mean going on a lengthy quest, I signed up for the exam with 90 in-game days left on the clock, which was a mistake. I ended up taking the exam under-levelled in both combat and alchemy, and just barely scraped through on my first attempt. Be warned, part of it is an actual written exam! It expects you to memorise things like the hundreds of weirdly named traits of items, and where certain materials are gathered from, and you only have 10 seconds to answer each question, so there's no time to look anything up. I flunked that part badly.
On the whole, I enjoyed the exploration aspect of the first half, and the freedom of the second half. It was nice to play a JRPG that wasn't about saving the world for once, so I'm planning to get more games in the series. I already have Ryza 2 for the next time I'm in an alchemy mood.

I recently finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon and whilst the turn-based combat is no replacement for the signature gameplay of the other mainline titles I did overall enjoy the story, and Ichiban makes for a great new central protagonist.
The main cast/party members were also solid and my main gripes were having to grind to get all my stats up to unlock some substories near the end game and the part-time hero quests being uninteresting and again very grind-heavy in places. Some boss battles also required a bit of levelling but I found a quick way to do so later on involving a specific enemy.
Next I’ll be likely playing some Rockstar classics in Bully Scholarship Edition and Red Dead Redemption.
