What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

I’ve neglected to do an update for a few weeks. So here is a few recent acquisitions.

One is not like the others 🤣
Finally started picking up the Inspector Wears Skirts series. Managed to get 3 with a slipcase from my local CEX. Also, season 5 of Adventure Time and my daughter loves watching it with me, so it’s nice to have some chill stuff to watch with her that’s not as long as a film.

One of these is not like the others too 🤣 we technically A Thousand & One Nights and Cleopatra are a double pack. Grabbed this on eBay so I can watch them before Belladonna of Sadness as they are spiritually similar.

Also, the two Ghibli films are amongst my favourites so I finally picked them up. I thought I had them already which is why it took so long to grab them.

Not Ghibli, but I heard it’s similar in style to a lot of their films set around WWII, so I picked this up for a bargain on Music Magpie.

Moribito is the AoL deal of the week Fujiko is just something I’ve wanted for a while and I got it for £3 on eBay as I had a load of Nectar points saved up.

Also after watching the Space Adventure Cobra movie, I needed more Cobra in my life. I watched the first episode on the TMS YouTube channel and then decided to just make a purchase and I found this second hand a week later. Fate smiled on me for sure with that one. Once I’ve watched this, I’m hoping to pick up newer series from Sentai.

The "final" pieces of my Ghibli collection arrived. Unfortunately, the second hand copy of Arrietty I received has the "6" on the spine, but I'm not bothered too much, I don't really fancy trying to hunt down a "18" slipcover or another copy of a Blu-ray that's over a decade old now - maybe I'll just write 18 on it in pen or something 😂

Oh, I just realised I got When Marnie Was There (which I keep calling Marnie and Me in my head 😂) today as well, but forgot to include it in the picture.

And here they all are. A mixture of CEs and the standard double-play Blu-ray+DVD. The only reason I got some CEs is because they were the same or similar price to the standard double-play editions on eBay.

I've got The Red Turtle coming from HMV as well, but not sure if that's considered a 'proper' Ghibli film. I also know of that CGI film Ghibli put out not long ago as well, but haven't heard great things about it, so I'll probably pass unless I see it at a bargain bin price. I hope we get a UK release of The Boy and the Heron though.

Overall, these weren't too bad to collect considering they're not exactly making any more of these I think, because Studio Canal had some bust up with another company. I did get lucky with a few of them (e.g., my copy of The Wind Rises from CEX came with the slipcover included and I managed to snag slipcovers for my copies of Pom Poko and Kiki for £5 each on eBay). They were all between £8-£20, so not too bad in terms of price either.

Happy to have them all physically anyway!

Good work @BrokenPhoenix. The CGI one, is that Earwig? It’s really not a great film, it’s like they tried to make a western film and failed because they don’t have the style for that. I’d suggest watching a bit on Netflix and seeing what you think.

Thanks! Yeah, that's the one. I saw the reviews were quite bad for it. I may give it a watch and see, but I won't have much hope haha.

Dvds and Blu Rays I've received in the past month:

Some notable things:
Yakitate Japan: I've been looking for over a year to find this series. Part 1 is easy and cheap to find, but that's not the case for part 2 & 3. To my big surprise and joy a complete collection popped up on eBay, the first I've ever seen over there.

Ghost in the Shell Arise: the first time I've purchased a Japanese release. This collection has all 5 Borders (including Pyrophoric Cult which never came out in the west). Everything in this collection should have English subtitles.

Azumanga Daioh: also pretty hard to find for a reasonable price. I went for the Australian version, but I have a multiregion Blu Ray player, so I should be fine.

2024 HAUL - JUNE CHAPTER: BATCH #1

Been a while since I mentioned any more items. I have three packages to cover for this batch; one arrived on Saturday 1st June, the second arrived on Thursday 6th and then the third arrived today.

Switch Haul 7 LRG.jpg

Starting off the month we have two more Nintendo Switch games for the collection and this covers two separate packages which I have decided to bundle together because these are Limited Run Games releases.

Persona 4 Golden is first, which arrived from VideoGamesPlus and their new listing of the set. They confirmed in advance that stock would be arriving on their store but the way they revealed the appearance of this game was suspicious, like announcing when it will appear with a time frame. This raised alarm bells in my head because it indicated that there was a high chance that it would sell out, therefore I had to order it directly through my phone whilst I was at work.

My assumption turned out to be correct because apparently the stock sold out within 20 minutes. Interesting considering the other LRG titles never had this issue. But ordering from VGP was decent especially for single item orders so I wasn't too bothered by it.

Next we have perhaps the biggest surprise pickup I have managed to get in a long time - The House in Fata Morgana. Limited Run Games held their latest annual Blowout sale which included a whole bunch of titles but I only had enough funds for one game. This game was among the titles listed to make their appearance. The site went offline at first to deter bots and resellers from ruining the event but there was a rocky start as it was reloading the pages constantly. Eventually it went back up but this game was not available to purchase.

I was initially just about to give up until I was notified that it did become available about 15-20 minutes later (it was likely locked from ordering to give people a chance). Staff tweets gave the assumption that it was sold out already but the page details didn't match that. I got my order through but was worried of cancellations as some folks got theirs cancelled not long after, but mine survived and dispatched.

To provide a bit of a background, The House in Fata Morgana is a visual novel that is considered one of the best in its genre. It had a release on PlayStation Vita followed by an updated version for PS4 and Switch. I did consider PS4 but eventually I decided to move visual novels to Switch but it was by that point that I had missed out on the opportunity. Grateful to be able to own a copy so that I can play it from the cart.

Here's how my Nintendo Switch collection has gone so far. I am in the zone of picking up more Switch games and I hope to reach 100 by the end of the year. I have some on order but there's still tons to get (not aiming to get so many as a lot of games don't run well on Switch).

Rental Magica - 11.jpg

Next we have Rental Magica from Anime Limited. They released the series in two collector's edition parts (and yes, they have a complete series standard edition out very soon) but these do mirror the Nozomi Entertainment limited edition DVD sets from Rightstuf back in the day so that's neat. You can view more photos and specs on my blog.

I wonder why there is no Azumanga Daioh BD release, aside from the German one but that has no English subtitles. It wouldn't even mind if it was just standard definition on BD disc.
