I'd like to see a return to more Isekai like Twelve Kingdoms where it isn't just inherant wish fulfillment with harems.

Yeah the original run of isekai titles had mostly female leads, one example I can think of is Escaflowne.

I've only actually seen SAO of the recent ones, but have a few of the "good ones" on my watch list such as Re:Zero and Log Horizon.

The Smartphone anime is better than the Death March anime, but the Death March LN is better than the Smartphone LN.

Yep looks like the essentials line are slip and DVD free. I imagine the newer classics releases will be similar.

I've never cared either way about slipcases, so the money saved over the part sets is good enough for me.

Do they really have to die? They make them because people like them, so as long as they get something out of it, what's the harm? No one's pinning you down Clockwork Orange style and forcing you to watch them.

Perhaps that's why some western fans hate them? To the tune of Beethovens unfinished symphony?
The boom of iseki anime does kind of have me annoyed with them, but it's more like the moeblob era type annoyance, they can still be done well, escaflowne is a classic and I enjoyed konosuba

I like them because you then get two artworks. And the reverses are better for SDS iirc
Also the fact it has got a complete set has worried me it flopped and FUNi dont want to get S2

There's art on the reverse but I wouldn't call it a reversible, there's no title on the spine.
