What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

Annoyingly, this wasn't due to arrive until Saturday despite pre-ordering it months ago, so I cancelled it and ordered it again last night, to get it to arrive today. Thanks, Bezos.

Oh look, it's been so long I forgot this was even happening:

It is a nice set, but what makes it a little bitter-sweet (along with the long wait) is that the exact same product has been immediately made available from their store for €35 meaning I paid €40 out of my €75 pledge for a hat, which compared to the two artbooks, A3 poster, signed canvas print and t-shirt and assorted extra goodies I got for $100 Canadian from the Season 1&2 Kickstarter (and the blu-ray from that was exclusive to backers) is not a whole lot. Frankly I would rather have had the artbook from the €250 tier, which I notice I can also buy for €35. Plus Season 3 on blu-ray to fill the gap never ever, thanks Netflix.

Bit of a backstory with this, went to my local CeX on Saturday traded some old tech & got wayyyyy more than I expected so decided to get Pokémon White, however I failed to see it was a reprinted cover and had no manuals, read they have 48hr voucher refund so took it back on Monday and then ordered it online... and it's arrived with original case and all the manuals/leaflets and no CeX sticker! Plus they shipped it in a box with so much padding too, well impressed

So glad I decided to check up online about their refund policy!

reprinted cover
It really surprises me that they’re even allowed to do that, nothing against CeX particularly (I’ve made money and got bargains from them) but I would have thought cover artwork and logos (company and BBFC, PEGI etc.) were all copyrighted and reproducing them for a product you are then selling would be in violation of that just as much as a bootlegger. I mean the discs are genuine, but they’re still essentially making a bootleg of the packaging.

I too was curious about the legality of CEX reprinting covers. I think they got into a bit of trouble before, because when they used to reprint covers, you could only tell if you took the inlay out and looked on the underside to see a CEX logo. However, now they have a little "cover reprinted" message in the corner, on the front of the product (clearly visible to the customer).

This is why Baggie received an authentic cover with their online order, as opposed to buying in-store. If you buy online through CEX, they are not allowed to (or at least shouldn't) sell you a copy of what you purchased with a reprinted cover (as the consumer needs to be aware that is what they are buying, e.g., a game with a reprinted cover).

As for the exact legality of reprinting copyright images and logos, I'm not 100% sure on. I think, perhaps, because they are second-hand goods, some of the trading standard laws may not apply. If there was something illegal about reprinting covers for second-hand goods, I'm sure they would have been pulled up on it by now as they have been doing it for years.

Even more glad I decided to take it back and return cuz part of me was like ehh I didn't pay any money so no harm but yeah now in the future I'll know to order online for a rare games!

It's a bit weird why they even reprinted the cover cuz unlike GBA you can't trade in loose DS cartridges... I feel like any games above £40 CeX should discount if they don't have original covers as I think half the reason is people want the cases and manuals

Yeah its only game cartidges of a certain age that they'll accept loose (so more retro games), but usually need to have a loose listing.

For reprinted cover they either get lost or get damaged in the store (or maybe case/cover stolen), or maybe just really poor condition cover when bought in and processed (price up) decided to reprint and its store dependant, some are better than others.

Online return policy is probably even better than instore return policy (but probably not as quick due to posting back and fourth) (I think its at least 7 day return policy for unwanted items), but I usually only buy stuff with credit, but unlike instore you have no idea on the condition of the item you'll get, I think I've return 3 of the same item the odd time cause of condition (things I know if I then tried to sell back to them would get rejected at my store or online).
But certainly still a gamble I have had good condition game and just awfull condition games turn up (again depends on which store check and what standard they accept), but easy enough too return with pre paid labels (also orignial postage is refunded too)

discounts for reprinted cover would be nice, but with the set price of stock it won't happen as far as I can tell, as all loose catridges of retro games have ther own listing with lower selling and buying in prices.

Also yeah I'm pretty sure thats one of the reason I've had the odd online order cancelled, as all the remaining stock was reprinted covers or that bad they knew it would get returned.

All distance selling (i.e., online or phone orders) have a cooling off period of 14 days from the day you receive your goods, during which you can return the item for a full refund for any reason (this includes second-hand goods from retailers such as CEX).

CEX do state 14 days for online returns, but some companies (cough Anime Limited cough) do try and swindle customers with their own in-house policies; unfortunately for those companies, their own policies do not trump UK law.
