Viewster's Omakase Details Revealed

Seems I'm unable to watch The first episode of Seraph of the End's second season unless I have an Omakase subscription.so far it's the only one it won't let me watch atm,if this is the case for Blood Blockade Battlefronts last episode I'm gonna be a little annoyed

Edit:Snow white and Key The Metal Idol are also ransomed off as well.

Not having a problem with Seraph of the End myself, it seems to let me play the first episode of season 2 perfectly fine. Not tried the other two myself.

For some reason I can only get the German-subbed version of Seraph of the End s2, which is sort of distracting. It doesn't help that navigating their iOS app is a living nightmare now they have more content. Does the English-subbed version have a different page if you're seeing an Omakase message? Does being logging in make a difference? I appreciate Crunchyroll's navigation so much more whenever I use the competitors.

I'm using the iOS app on my iPad and I've tried logging on and off.I've noticed that there's a star in the bottom left corner of the thumbnail for anything it won't let me watch without Omakase.Ive tried both the simulcast page and the Anime page to no luck, every time I select the episode it presents the sign up for Omaske page as well as whenever I go back to the home page it pops up(surprisingly it's more aggressive than Animax)

This is what pops up

"Want to watch exclusive anime titles?
Subscribe and get artfully selected merchandise alongside a
premium anime streaming service with digital exclusives"

I have a bad feeling about this :(

Have you tried using the site Type45? None of the titles you're having issues with have given me the notice about Omaske on the web, so I'm wondering if it's an app only thing and not rolled out to the site yet.

Does Seraph of the End even have English subs on the app for that matter? I'm assuming you can't tell due to not being able to get past the Omaske notice, but on site they still aren't there.

So did I when they mentioned it a few days ago. If they start charging people £15 a month for access to their simulcasts, it's safe to say they will lose what goodwill they have remaining...

Well Key the Metal Idol is supposed to be Omakase exclusive when they announced it back at Anime Expo but I can access the page despite not being a subscriber (and have no plans to do so because cost reasons).

Probably an error.

Do we know any more about the Omakase exclusives, are they time limited or anything?

You've got to assume that unless AL are getting a huge payday from it, streaming for £15 a month is basically not streaming at all, and it may not be worth it for them (especially if they get paid per stream, like Crunchyroll does)...

The three shows they mentioned yesterday (the other two being Meine Liebe and Saint Beast) are presumably exclusive to the subscription with no limited time whatsoever.

I understand those three, but Seraph of the End being indefinitely locked up makes no sense for anybody. Especially since Omakase has basically priced itself out of the UK market...

For the first season of Seraph I had the same problem with German subtitles, but they fixed it fairly quickly after I informed them. Will drop them another messageand tell them it's happening again.

Edit: I got a reply 20 minutes later.

Funi hasn't sent the English subtitles for Seraph yet, which is why only German is available. Only episode one of Key The Metal Idol was released and could the person getting the error message regarding Snow White with the Red Hair please contact them?

Edit #2:

I informed them that I thought the query about Key The Metal Idol was about it not playing on the mobile/table app and they responded with 'Yeah, we see that now. That's a bug. It will work on a browser'

I should point out that Viewster is now doing a 'Retrocast' which is similar to simulcasts but for older titles. So you'll have to wait a week for a new episode to appear.

I...

That's so...

Oh Lord...

To be fair, Crunchyroll does the same with their subtitled Yu Gi Oh releases. IDK about the original series but episodes of YGO GX come out every Tuesday and that show finished broadcasting in 2011.

I think the original series is having blocks of 5 episodes or so released whenever Crunchyroll feels like it. I'm sure there is a schedule, but I've not seen one publicised.

Another big problem only I seem to have noticed is that Viewster's files regularly have noticeable encoding errors, I've seen episodes drop out completely, episodes with random blips and episodes where the audio was completely garbled for most of the episode. And some files, the picture quality is just awful, I was watching Bakemonogatari last night and was having to squint because some of the burnt in subtitles were a bit blurry at 480p. Unless they change their infrastructure for HD, that'll still be a problem.

Yeah, I've had problems like that too. There was one particular K-drama I was watching a few weeks ago, and I had to go back to fansubs for one episode (I downloaded them years ago before Viewster even existed, then when I realised it was actually on there, decided to watch it legally) because the stream just wouldn't play beyond about 10 minutes into the episode. Never had issues like that with CR.

Speaking of technical issues.

I noticed during my marathon on Arslan that the video quality tends to go from 480p to 360p every now and then, I really hate these type of players because it annoys me. Why not just make them fixed like YouTube?

Another issue I found which was seen in Arslan Episode 25 - the subtitles were flickering like mad for two row sentences. Jesus.
