Viewster's Omakase Details Revealed

That's for me to decide, not Funimation.

But they have concrete international expansion plans for 2016!

Yeah, we'll believe that ******** FUNi. The good news is, assuming they're telling the truth and it isn't vaporware, we'll probably be first, but I'm not going to place any bets on it actually happening.

Piracy discussion is neither appropriate nor relevant. Nowhere has it been confirmed that Viewster will be permanently withholding any anime, and if they make the exclusive content catalogue stuff then nobody is especially affected (heck, if they made it stuff like broadcast dubs we wouldn't otherwise get anyway then it could be argued it was adding value to the offerings in our region, even though I can't stand dubs myself). This may even be a requirement for companies like FUNimation to share 'premium' subscriber content with their partners so we aren't a week behind the US.

Crunchyroll have got a ton of stuff for us this season, there's not much they can do about FUNimation and Daisuki being pigheaded with their exclusivity deals. I can also confirm that they have attended UK cons before. Why they're so cold towards us now and not working to get UK-only content when they're blocked in the US is anyone's guess - but I imagine we're not proving to be a lucrative market for them. Which is unfortunate because the size of the legally-watching anime audience here is not going to increase any time soon and yet the industry insists on chopping us up into individual regions in spite of it.

I wager that people at Viewster are reading this very thread to collect feedback on their launch and I hope they'll consider a more general digital-only subscription ASAP. I understand why they're doing it the way they're doing it, but it doesn't work for me.

In terms of exclusive content, I know they have plans for that. Key the Metal Idol will be Omakase exclusive.

As for the whole Funimation situation, of course the UK will be first. We're the only English territory getting screwed over (Australia is perfectly fine thanks to AnimeLab handling the titles).

I'm still waiting for Viewster to actually respond on Twitter over this service. I want to know whether people are up for it on those social networks, so far nearly everyone on this forum is against the proposed subscription plan. Perhaps Viewster should make a poll to see if people would go for this.

They have a lot of pan-American rights too, but that wasn't really what I was getting at. I was more questioning whether FUNi were actually telling the truth when they said there were concrete plans to be announced in 2016. (Do you not think it was a bit weird that the brand manger seemed to know more about the plans than Justin Rojas did?) That would however explain why they haven't been in a rush to pick up a UK distributing partner for their current content.

I have to ask who does it work for? Who has £200 PA to spend on the one service's subscription AND having to deal with what is tantamount to junk mail?

It's definitely not junk mail probably will have to decide if a box is worth it as each one is announced if the streaming was on its own I would probably subscribe to that OVER the omakase service but I most likely will be getting the omakase

Random question here, has anyone else been offered the chance to receive a Beta Omakase box? I know I have (despite not even reaching the target).

Lottery to maybe not get junk mail, excuse me.

Also, can Viewster please get applications on consoles other than the XBox 360? If I remember correctly, do we still need an XBox Live membership to use the app?

No you don't, I have a free account on my Xbox 360 and I can use their app (and Crunchyroll's) with no problem :)

Thank goodness. Maybe I can actually be bothered to set up my 360 now then :p

I just feels like hate as no one is saying any positives.
To be fair, quite a few people say they'd at least be interested in a paid subscription for ad-free HD content and that's somewhat positive. The problem being that most people don't like the way the subscription is being offered. People wouldn't really be as disappointed if they had no interest in Viewster in the first place.

Yup. :thumb:

I want to support viewster but I'm not paying for random bits I have no use for. All I want to pay for is ad free HD streaming & I'm gutted that I don't have that option.

Dare we assume they won't be making simulcasts Omakase exclusives (or at least not indefinitely)? I can only assume the response would be riots if they do...

Seems they are deleting comments from people questioning why a HD streaming only sub isn't an option.....

I'm sure it's very annoying for them, but there are ways to go about these kind of things and just deleting the comment ain't one of them.

While I can understand removing comments that are harmful, removing criticism isn't going to make things any better. In fact it's probably going to cause a shitstorm instead.
