Upcoming UK Anime DVD Artwork!

Oh please... tell me that's Fan Cover art.... No? It looks terrible. Horrible. Hideous. Disgusting.
The Banner, The artwork choice, The horrible logo design. EVERYTHING is wrong with this cover.
What's wrong with using Aniplex USA's artbox covers? They did it with Blue Exorcist. At least it might actually work for a cover this time unlike BE.

Oh well, thankfully I've already started getting the Aniplex releases so I won't have to suffer this either way.

EDIT: I thought I recognised that artwork. It's from the poster that came in the Anime edition of the Crossing Field OP single. It doesn't work for a cover.

Yeah, I'm kinda baffled too. This reminids me of this image;

I mean the original SAO logo is in English as is, and it's not like most anime logos where it's off in some corner away from the more important japanese logo and it'd be an utter arse to finagle the font into an english approximation.

But hey, if Manga want to sink SAO and go right back into my shitlist that's their choice.

Surely the cover art is the last thing anyone unfortunate enough to watch Sword Art Online will have to worry about?

It is a special, special kind of hideous, though.

Manga are already on my Shitlist for their use of double play banners. Anything with that is highly unlikely to be bought in the first place.
And regarding the logo, that's the exact same thing I thought of, hence why I hoping like hell that it's bloody fan art.

Is this part of Aniplex's way of "Yo dawg, we don't want people to buy your version of SAO Manga, so we are going to give it a shocking cover to help it sell in stores".

Seriously this cover is so bad it makes me want to get the more expensive version (which why not, the UK release is only the episodes for now).

Yeah, well, Joke's on them, I was going to separate Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency into two separate BR cases with custom art anyway and I don't need no £400-Expensive ass BR Set to do that.

So, in the words of Black Dynamite, to Aniplex; "HAHA! I THREW THAT **** BEFORE I WALKED IN THE ROOM!"

You got something against comic sans?

Two thirds of my income presently comes from lettering comic books. Believe me when I tell you, Comic Sans is good for nothing. NOTHING. Even the guy who designed it hates it.

Good god the amount of whining over a DVD/BD cover art here is getting out of hand!. It's like saying a video game sucks because the graphics are not up to par when it's the gameplay that matters. Also why is a double play banner such a bad thing. Again I don't see the big deal as it at least tells the consumer if what you are getting has both DVD/BD versions.

Plus US anime DVD/BD releases have them too and I hear no only complain about them but I guess thats because everyone here is more into buying US releases than UK releases. Yes I can understand technical issues and faults (both US and UK releases are guilty of that though) but griping over something as a non-issue as cover art just seems silly and makes us look like spoiled children who are never ever happy with anything that these companies do at all

A majority of the US anime releases with the Double Play banner is only on the slipcase box, the inside just has the artwork. The only title that I have seen with the double play banner kept was Phantom: Requiem for a Phantom.

I don't mind them, but I understand why there are some who hate the cover.

Notices Ghibli box cover - that looks well good and I'm glad it kept the right number for Blu-ray.

Surely the irony of a large majority of your posts being pointless whining over what you regard as pointless whining isn't lost on you?

On topic: I'm extremely glad Studio Canal changed that awful garish sunset orange/yellow background of the original Poppy Hill cover. But I'll be having that limited edition, thank you very much.

Sword Art Online - What's the problem? The SAO or just that it's not as pretty as Aniplex's cover? Anyway I don't think this is the final cover anyway as nowhere does it say that this is boxset 1 or episodes 1-7.

From Up On Poppy Hill - I really like the font for the title. Definitely prefer it over the US and Australian versions. Don't think I'll be getting the combo edition as I prefer the cover of the separate dvd and blu ray releases.

It's the massive Logo (where there's a perfectly serviceable english one) that's doing my head in. Such awful typography.

That limited edition From Up On Poppy Hill cover looks beautiful.

In regards to Sword Art Online, aside from the "SAO" logo, it wouldn't have been bad if the US artbox design wasn't as damn good as it is. I agree that MangaUK should try and use the Anipled USA artbox art for the covers.

Also, how many people will believe that the title is simply "Sao"?

Guys, just to confirm the SAO image you're referring to is just a temporary placeholder and is not reflective of the final artwork.

I don't know why temporary placeholder art gets posted on here as most of the time it will say it's not the final art or something along those lines.

Uh...huh. There's an idiom for this whole "causing a whole bunch of grief when it's really not warrant" thing but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

I mean seriously, would it have killed someone just to have the JP SAO logo on a white label, that's how most video game companies do placeholders on Amazon.

:thumb: Agree the companies are just as much to blame by doing this.
