So having asked it at the Manga panel at MCM Glasgow, they're looking at the possibility of thinking about maybe asking their art dood to maybe schedule some free time if s/hes not busy with other things into looking at some sort of way to mitigate the whole stupid, dumb, and stupid and farts "Double Play" Banner from their BR Releases (SAO in particular) somehow (with the given suggesting being how the DBZ covers did it)

If I may clarify something, the double play banner is included on the appropriate releases to ensure everyone is clear what's included in the package on the front as well as on the back of the box. The Blue banner on double/triple plays and the red banner on 3D Blu-rays across home entertainment as a whole has very much become a standard inclusion now.

With that said, now getting to the point raised by your question from the panel. In the context of Manga UK's releases being able to include an alternate sleeve/reversible sleeve design of any kind is subject to the licensor approval at the end of the day. (Which is why Jerome mentioned we would speak to our designer about what potential options there are when it comes to this before submitting for approval.) But, we have another potential conundrum on this (as alluded to during the panel.) What if (hypothetically) we ultimately have the option to include either a (for lack of better word) clean reversible sleeve or an alternate artwork design entirely on the finished product. I've seen cases in favour of both from fans. Out of interest which would you (and anyone else reading this) want?

Personally I'm all for reversible sleeves with alternate covers, just as long as the same information is on the back cover of both. Funimation's reversible sleeves just have the episode ordering on the opposite side of theirs and I'm not fond of that.

Edit: The "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" dvd release is a good example of reversible covers done right.

Guy with silly hair? (or was that the cosplay pannel and I was half way to assleap when I was there)?

Anyway.

I get that banner is a "Thing with the industry" but, and I'm not saying this as a personal attack, I'm pretty sure people saying said banners are dumb and stupid has also become part of that standard.

Like I've said before, like the DBZ releases where the reverse was a version of the cover that was closer to the american orange box releases (No BBFC mark, no silly triangle in the corner about how many minutes of Goku being stuck on Namak there was, stuff like that) would be my prefered way of going about this.
Really As long as it functions as a cover (title, art, maybe back info) and not, say, an episode list ala the Funimation releases as SnowWolf said, it'd be fine.

As long as that stupid banner wasn't there. It, along with the triangle of doom, are the lumpy space princess of Cover art assets.

I wasn't at the cosplay panel. I only went to the Manga one. I was the girl in the pink tweed jacket.

I dislike double play banners also, but another potential route to go could be how Kaze have it on the Tiger and Bunny boxes. It's fairly unobtrusive.

The side thingy where it says what volume it is, what episodes it has and what media is in there? Yeah, I'd have no complaints about that. It's just the whole cover side to side being used by the banner that gets right on my nose.

I do fail to see why MVM added "For" into the title. Should have just gone with Funi's title "C: Control".
Where are you getting that from? I can't see "for" anywhere on the cover.

AoL are listing it as "C - Control"

It was BBFC rated under the full title of "C - Control - The Money and Soul of Possibility"

Don't know why they didn't use Funimations's cover for FLCL.
It the same as their existing DVD collection, which has been around a lot longer than FUNimation's license.

Anime Limited are really making us wait with the Place Promised artwork. I come here every day in hope it had been unleashed on us!

Same I really want to see how it looks, but I wonder how the cover will work out:
ADV UK version of the cover:

ADV US version of the cover:

I'm hoping the AL version will be much better with the films cover showing half of the front cover (either as Voices on top, Places on bottom or Voices on left side, Places on right side) and not have the boring cover that doesn't show anything or has big borders like the Manga Force covers had. The ADV release (US one especially) apparently also included a 20 page booklet.

The main menus for the first release were pretty good but the 5 Centimeters Per Second Global Edition had a better look and layout. That said, the AL version is going to be splitting the films into two discs. Below is the ADV's main menu for both films:

I guess melons sell in the business.

I still can't understand how Horizon is getting a 12 rating. I was expecting a 15 at least; like Sekirei and Freezing.

If you're referring to the DVD version here then there probably will be two discs, but if you were referring to the Bluray version then it will be one. Voices of a Distant Star IS SD. The version on the Japanese 5cm bluray judging by the Bitrate and image quality is just the Japanese DVD master. I wonder if Anime Limited will actually state that on the packaging.

According to Amazon, the BD version is also in 2 discs. I guess we have to wait for the cover to find the truth.

I wouldn't say it's heavy on the fanservice or anything. At least, not to the same extent as shows like Sekirei and Freezing. Kawakami just likes massive breasts I guess.

Looks like Manga have taken the Madman route and naming them as Collections instead of Parts.

EDIT: Hold up, it looks like the previous parts were also known as Collections despite the recent releases:

Big fail on that part. Obviously the Collections boxes was a quick mixup because a Complete Season 1 couldn't be allowed so I wouldn't blame Manga for that.

That's a slight annoyance with Manga and Fairy Tail given there is no collection 3 or 4 and collection 5 will have 12/13 episodes unlike Collection 1 and 2.
Nvm. Just extra checked following Normanic's edit and saw Part 1 is marked as Collection 1. Now annoyance on a different level...
