So my opinions on these box covers. Wolf Children looks amazing and they've gone back to the CE style of Evangelion 2.22, Freedom and Redline. I wonder what the 3rd disc is..
Black Lagoon OVA looks bad, there's too much on the cover.
K-On! movie looks good though it has the banner.
Guilty Crown is spot on (btw Amazon used the Blu-ray cover in the DVD product, don't get confused!)
Horizon S2 is okay.

Agartha has three discs, 1 dvd, 1 blu-ray and a bonus DVD containing over 100 minutes of cast and crew interviews, The Making of... featurette, Japanese Promo Video, Japanese Teasers, Makoto Shinkai Featurette.

So, perhaps it's something similar?

Let the whining/bitching/rambling commence!

- Until Manga drop the double play banner I'm not giving them any money for movies. Why do they always do double plays anyway. 99% of the people who buy them only want the BD.
- I might be alone here, but whilst both of Blue Exorcist's covers work as artboxes, they look pretty awful for BD covers. The anime style covers would look much better.
- Guilty Crown on the other hand is the opposite. That art in particular is just awful whether it be on the UK BD cover or Funi's Artbox. Either way, I don't care. I'll eventually import Funi's Guilty Crown for those two delicious 108 page artbooks and nice case artwork.
- The Black Lagoon cover is actually quite nice but suffers from the usual **** which really brings most UK releases down (Big BBFC logo, Big Manga Logo, Big Kaze Logo) Why the hell do all the distributors here have massive intrusive logo's here anyway? The US distributors don't.
- Finally I think the AU cover for Horizon II is actually far better than Sentai's one which is used here.

So long as they don't strip all the extras from the BD like Kaze did with their release. I still refuse to watch that film until I eventually get the proper US or JP release.

Manga UK are just releasing Blue Exorcist on blu ray and not as a combo now. It's interesting how Australian doesn't do combo releases.

I admit the title change was stupid, but I'm still getting it for the artbook and extra disc.

Not to mention Khazi (I brought the nickname back into action) are too messy with the side part, adding too much detail on a tiny slim case is really annoying. Sentai, Funi and Beez keep it simple with just the logo and the title.

Here's Funimation's BD/DVD and Kaze's DVD and BD here:

Which has the better cover? There's only one way to find out.

Also, why call it OAV and not the usual OVA?

If you get rid of all the crap on it cover, Kaze's is a billion times better than Funi's, but equally that art of Revy is the reverse cover for Funi's set. To be honest, cover art and packaging is the only thing Kaze excel at. They are lagging far behind when it comes to on disc content and playback. There's no doubt in my mind that Kaze's release will be shittier than Funi's as always.

And they call it OAV because Kaze.

FYI I did not actually come up with Khazi, the credit for that goes to someone else.

Been quite some time since I saw OAV instead of OVA. Like 10 years I think lol

One thing I always try to remember is that ultimately its the stuff on the disc that we are here to see, great cover art is a bonus but the focus is the show. Hence why Kaze have lost my business at this time.

But will khazi drop the same clanger funimation did with the blu-ray (if they're releasing it on that format) since if you try to run the disc on a samsung BD player, you can only get as far as the main menu as trying to start playing any of the episodes causes a whole lot of nothing (although samsung are trying to fix it through a future firmware update).

I nearly always say OAV (unless I'm trying hard to fit in with the youngsters). There used to be an even split between preferences and I got into the habit of using the one which doesn't look like the Latin for EGGS because...I studied Latin, and it looks weird to me every single time.

Those complaining about the size of the BBFC certificate on the covers that size is mandated by the BBFC themselves.
Looking at the spines of my anime collection I see many different sizes of the BFFC logo, they could at least be consistent and use the minimum size. :p

You know, it might be because I'm not native English and am not interpreting it correctly but the part I set in bold is remarkable to me from said page:
"For DVD/Blu-ray packaging the symbol must be shown on one of the largest faces (normally front cover), the spine (except if it is less than 2cm) and on another of the largest faces or another face other than the spine which includes the explanatory statement within a rectangle (normally back cover)."

I took my measuring rod to confirm how thick most spines are and the BFFC on most (anime) BD/DVD releases seems completely unnecessary to me if I'm interpreting the rule/law correctly.. Except complete collections and certain combopacks (like Summer Wars+The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) most of the spines are less than 2cm thick so BFFC shouldn't be included on the spine of volumes & movies I believe now after reading that page...

I don't think anybody can argue that 99.9% of the spines would look better without BFFC on the spine, so I might try to ask this to Anime Limited/Manga/MVM and see what they say, I'm kinda curious now whether it can be removed or not and where I might be wrong in my interpretation.

Glancing through my shelves, Beez and ADV rarely included the BBFC logo on the spine (the only exception I can from the front row is GSC:Bulletproof). It is pretty standard otherwise.
Maybe it is just a standard practice so they don't forget when it comes to wider boxes, or maybe something the retailers request so the rating it easier to see on shelves.

Amazon have updated the listing details

"Includes Blu-ray feature, DVD feature copy and a bonus DVD disc containing over 100 minutes of special features and a set of 4 hand-illustrated Wolf Children character sketches by Mamoru Hosada."

Doesn't say what the special features are though...

Plot twist! This is the winning Steins;Gate cover:

Booo. My least favorite of the three.

That cover is more suited to a complete collection. The other two went better with the first volume, especially the cover with the single character on.

The complete collection thing strikes again - is there some reason that buyers of the premium versions of anime titles don't want to see all of the characters on the packaging? Personally I rarely buy complete collections yet tend to like minor characters, so I'd rather get the nicer packaging on the first release ;_;

Individual characters on the front made sense in the old singles days where you'd get more than 1-2 pieces of artwork per series, but nowadays I feel as though I'm missing out that way unless the show has a tiny cast anyway.

I don't actually have a problem with multiple characters on the cover, just think that type of cover works better for a complete collection. On this release I do think it's a bad choice. Reason being is that part one has a single character, so I think the single character with the pink hair would have been better suited, matches part one better.

Only time I dislike loads of characters on the front is when there's one too many and a lot going on in the back ground. Makes it look too crowded. The plain white back ground on this release helps stop it being too crowded.

Not that I hate the cover but it doesn't fit with Part 1's cover and is better off used as a Complete cover like everyone suggested.

Unless, Manga gets the rights to own every single cover from the Japanese volumes or Blu-ray Box and use them for the complete set.
