UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

You can at least check out a couple of episodes on Crunchyroll first, if you like. Which ironically I did start doing the other day not even knowing that it was getting a DVD release. It seems... maybe OK.

I watched the first episode of Blassreiter back when it was on Bost and you had to pay to watch the rest which I didn't. I never have revisted it now it is freely available on Crunchyroll. It wasn't Linebarrels bad, but it didn't grab me.

I like the bit of music they use for the next ep previews. If that isn't enough of a recommendation, I don't know what is.

That same part of the show was what kept me awake through Gundam SEED's recap shows.

I defy you to hear that fanfare and not dance the Gundam Disco!

Somewhat unrelated, but on the topic of cover art, I read that when there were focus groups in UK and US, the US guys responded better to videogame covers with characters on the front, while UK residents responded better to more abstract stuff (see Heavy Rain/ Resident Evil 0/REmake/4/5 and the most blatant example Ico)

I just thought that was interesting. Though I guess we don't like stuff quite as abstract as the japanese =P

I've just seen the Region B cover. A bit of a shame they aren't copying the Japanese style and just changing the text.
The Japanese cover art is stylish, but a bit bland. Interesting that they don't seem to be at all concerned about appealing to the family market in Japan, which I imagine is a large one for Optimum's Ghibli releases in the UK.

Ours is fine (except for all the bloody logos which seem to multiply with every release) but I really wish they'd done away with that silver bar. BDs already have enough of a big horizontal space at the top filled with blue plastic. I dislike the new look PS3 cover art for much the same reason. Because of their dimensions, vertical stripes were the best way to go with HD cases.
