UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

If Namco Bandai's PS3 release functions as a blu-ray, it suggests they either don't have the rights or got usurped and found a release pointless.

Not really a sale, but some of the Amazon marketplace sellers have new copies of Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day for around £5.

While the game ia pretty short and not the best it does have all four Short Peace movies subbed on the disc. It is also a hybrid disc which means that the movies are playable on standard bluray players so it is still a pretty good deal if you don't have a PS3.

I don't have a PS3, but this sounds interesting. Are the films any good, and do they work without the game?

Yes, the movies work on any bluray player. Anime Limited announced their licencing of Short Peace after the release of the game, but it is unusual that we haven't heard anything else about it from them especially since Sentais release has been out for a while.

It's not the first hybrid disc to be released in the UK either, with Tekken Hybrid, which is why Tekken Blood Vengeance wasn't released on bd by Manga.

In recent years, some Blu-ray Discs have been released as Hybrid discs, demonstrating its compatibility with the PlayStation 3 console, which uses BD as its primary disc format.[1] These discs generally include a movie or feature that can be played on any Blu-ray Disc player and playable content which is accessible when run on a PlayStation 3 console. Examples include Tekken Hybrid, Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime and Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne -Kamogawa Days-.

Good to know they will work, but I meant story-wise, do you lose anything if you can't play the game? Obviously it's an anthology, but sometimes there's thematic links and stuff...

Not really, the movies stand by themselves, hell the game is only 30 mins long itself with very little story. Absolutely insane though, but it is made by Grasshopper Manufacture and directed by Suda51.

I'll get both collections of Future Diary if/when they hit the £30 mark methinks. On a budget now on the off chance I'll get to go on holiday the end of next month.

Was gutted when I missed the Rosario x Vampire DOTW as that's been on my to buy list for a bit :(

I really wish KLK Part 2 would go on sale sooner rather than later. It's killing me just having 1 and 3. Part 1 goes to around £20 quite often so I hope Part 2 follows suit.

Yeah it's still going, they have this on yesterdays newswire "If you have yet to apply for replacement discs please follow all the guidelines HERE.", so you should be good.

Thank heavens for that. Haven't gotten around to reading that newswire yet. ><

Considering the collectors edition set can be had for ~£22 from Zavvi.
And the cheapest the standard edition is retailing for is ~£34 from Base.

And Anime LTD's replacement programme basically involves them sending you a full boxed standard edition I'd say the current situation is a good one to grab it if you haven't got it.... it's like "buy a £22 set get a £34 set free"... (sort of)

It's a good series, and I enjoyed it but that release is missing the OVAs, which are pretty important. They're also not legally streaming if that bothers you. (The show is on Crunchyroll). For £10, I'm having it though
