UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

I know how that feeling Anton. Before I heard of Play and Amazon I purchased through Ebay. Sadly there's 4 I need to rebuy. Anime Limited will be helping me this year with one I need to replace thankfully :)

Same, in my defence this is going back quite a long time. All I knew over a decade ago was that Ebay had series' I wanted to watch at a price I could afford, in presentation boxes that I preferred to typical DVD cases. At the time I just assumed I was buying a foreign release and it didn't occur to me that they were knock-offs, usually because of the packaging.

Thankfully I've replaced all but one now, which is no longer available to pick up through proper channels, sadly. I like to think though that with so many options available for legitimate content now that there is little chance of confusion for young fans starting out buying anime.

Yeah I think this was 2005 era for me doing this. Now I know what to look for as fakes thankfully; the cardboard folding out cases with the plastic sleeve thing you push down over it *shudders*
Back then as stated, I thought it was maybe from Japan or something but was I wrong! lol.

I had more fakes than that, 6 I believe but AL helped me with 2 last year too :3

I feel really happy about clearing all the illegal garbage away. Some people are scum. That's why I'm totally put off risking anything from Ebay at all now.

I think I've been caught out once with a bootleg from Amazon. Soon sent it back through.

Only time I have used eBay for anime purchases is via the UP1 shop when they had the complete set of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Space" when Beez collapsed

Oh wow surprised some have been burnt by Amazon. It's so nice to know about all the places to buy from now :)

Those were dark days in the past where it would be ebay and recording onto VHS from the Sci Fi Channel, CNX and Fox Kids! hehe.

I remember when bootlegs were good quality not a whole series on 1-2 disks that devolves into an indecipherable mess when the slightest bit of movement occurs on screen.

I bought a lot of perfect collection bootlegs when I was at college because I just couldn't afford to keep shelling out so much on 4 episode disks and they were always good quality & a good disk count.

The great virtue of buying anime on Amazon (where most of mine comes from) is that at least you can spot anything dodgy from a mile out. I've never once been sold a bootleg there.

Mind you, it help if you limit yourself to specific sellers. I've found that I mostly buy from the same half dozen marketplace sellers when I have money to spend on Teh Cartoonz.

EzyDVD have 20% off everything (excluding pre-orders, gift cards etc)

I've used them before and are very good. Just watch out for the postage on some sets being classed as 'boxsets' and cost $29 postage.

I was gonna pick up some Oz exclusives like: Silver Spoon, Honey and Clover, Cyber City Oedo 808 and Welcome to Irabu's Office but then I looked at my back log pile and bank balance. Reality really gives me a boot the face sometimes.

Still worth a look if you wanna get some region B blu-rays and Australian exclusive DVD's. my personal pick would be Nichijou which I got from this site a few month back.

Whats EzyDVD like with customs?

I will point out one thing though; if it's a Madman Entertainment title it may be worth checking out Madman's own store to compare prices as it may work out cheaper. Also the price listed on Madman's website isn't the price you pay (Especially if you're from the UK). All prices listed on madman's site include GST Tax, which if you live in the UK is removed - so a title at $29.95 is reduced to $27.93.

I've never been hit by customs with them. They seem to just write $10 on the customs form on the front of the ones I have received.

I tend to only order 2 DVD's per order ensure that I don't get one big package.

Ponyo steelbook £9.99 at Zavvi.
Crazy, I remember buying them all when they came out and I thought that they would be rare for sure ha, I guess they underperformed and thus they never continued the steelbook line whereas the thing I never expected to become rare (The Wind Rises Collectors Edition Blu-ray) ended up being really rare so I'm glad I pre-ordered that one :D I should be glad, otherwise I'd have to double dip for everything as I did for the four steelbooks they did release ha...

Booooo why Bluray? Would of gave it a purchase if DVD. Oh well. Great offer.

Not interested in Burst Angel. The only Western-y Cowboy-ish ones I like is Trigun.

You need to purchase a Blu-Ray player. (If/when you can) Although anime looks fine in HD it looks even better in HD.
