The Q & A Thread (for questions that do not need a thread)

Anyone know if the French release of Hana & Alice has English subs? - blu-ray.com states it has, but various other sites doesn't mention it, though I found a French review, saying it had.
It has English subs, but iirc the English subs are out of sync. This was fixed in the UK release.

Does any of english-friendly release (Sentai, Animatsu, Madman) include the short bonus (mini theater) episodes of Amagi Brilliant Park?
It's not mentioned anywhere.

Sorry for the double question, but does anyone know if there's any difference between the upcoming Steins;Gate 0 UK and US releases? Does the UK release also feature the extra episode and such. The UK releases works out around $20 cheaper than the US for me.
Region locking that’s it there’s is A ours Is B.
As it’s a FUNi title it’s a clone.

Same discs, same content, US is Region A only.

That’s really great! - think I’ll pre-order the UK parts next month.
Yeah, the only minor tweak will be the Blu-ray case featuring the UK standard edition artwork (like OVERLORD II and My Hero Academia Season 3 Part 1) but other than that the rest will be identical.

So how come we dont have ?any? companies releasing Hentai over here anymore?

Is it just because of the BBFC / UK Laws / Required Cuts / Lack of distribution as R-18 titles need to be sold at registered shops

or more down to simply no-one wanting (or being able) to get shows like this as its such a niche market the sales simply wouldn't justify the costs

Or actually... all of the above lol

BBFC Costs are too high for its sales range i would guess. Why would any buy it when its on the internet for free (porn in general) Softcel seems to have stopped in the US too after like 10 titles.

"Hot Manga" is still in the market.
As they are based in France, they don't really care about BBFC or British laws in general - they just include English subs on their DVDs and even sell them on Amazon UK.

Two simple reasons:

1) Due to the scenes themselves, the BBFC will have to classify it as R18 which means it can only be sold at registered sex shops and can't be sold online. This will, of course, alienate the audience it is trying to target.

2) The BBFC and the UK law have select rules as to what can be shown during the scenes, and as such a lot of hentai does get cut as a result. Doing this will, of course, conclude in more costly problems and alienate the audience even further because nobody wants to own a butchered copy of their favourite adult anime.

Is that actually true of animated content? I genuinely don't know the answer to that, though it would seem a little odd if it is. I mean, there's no actual real sexual activity taking place in animated porn. Plus most hentai has something akin to a storyline, so I wouldn't have thought it would be treated any differently to films with sex scenes you can buy off the shelf in HMV.

Regardless, doc is probably right that there just wouldn't be nearly a big enough market. Mainstream anime struggles to sell in large numbers in the UK, I imagine the potential hentai market would probably struggle to reach three figures.

Well there's two ways to this, if the sex scene itself doesn't show the explicit stuff then you could probably get away with an 18, but if it does (in which case virtually every hentai does) then it'll be R18 or go for an 18 with cuts.

I just wonder where the line is drawn in law between straight-up pornography that is limited to sex shops and narratives containing pornography that aren't. I mean, the film Caligula contains actual hardcore sex scenes, yet it's available from high street retailers and only carries an 18 rating, not R18 (the same is apparently true of Nymphomania, but I've never seen that and don't have any real interest in doing so). Most hentai frames its sex scenes within the context of a larger narrative, unlike most straight-up porn which is just people introducing themselves to the camera and then getting it on.

The answer is probably vague and stupid, like most things to do with laws on pornography in the UK. The idea that they'd treat drawn depictions of fictional characters engaged in sexual activity the same as actual people is already insane enough. Following that logic if someone draws a knob in a public place they should be prosecuted for indecent exposure.

i notice a every now and then that manga publishers will tweet about american bookstores having 3 for 2 offers, do we have these deals anymore anywhere?

So I'm listening to the Megazone 23 part 3 soundtrack as it's the only part I've ever seen (back when Sci-Fi channel did their anime 12-4/5am and I'd VHS it as they'd lump eps from anime into a "film") and I'm nostalgic as f******ck right now to where I'd love to watch this again. Not to mention Bubblegum Crisis and Blue Sonnet and the Red Fang for which Sci-fi also merged eps into a "film".

Anyone know if these are available to buy or stream anywhere? I still own the recorded VHS' but my god they are crippled now I aint sure if tracking would even help lol.

I remember wanting to be Eve when I saw this at like age 13. Same way I wanted to be Jem from Jem & The Holograms when a Sky movie channel turned the first few eps into a film too! haha.

Bubblegum Crisis can be bought here. Region free I believe. Their next kickstarter expected in August is going to be Megazone. They announced it just recently on their current KS for Gunsmith Cats.

It was actually mention of the Kickstarter for Megazone that reminded me of it and made me hunt down the songs I love from part 3 hehe. The link that was posted for it though said it wasn't open/active though.

Ooooh thanks over Bubblegum, will definitely have enough. YT has the first 5 Blue Sonnet eps that Sci-Fi made the movie up on there so may watch that awful copy for nostalgia feels too.
