The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

It won't happen simply because that would infringe on constitutional rights in the US. The courts can and will strike any trump crap like that down.
But he can just tell the courts to go do one like he has already.

Also, that absolute id10t doesn't realise that it'll tax EVERY MOVIE because nothing is filmed in the US anymore

I closely monitor what is going on in politics everyday and what I'm seeing is an awful lot of people are getting thoroughly pissed off with trump's crap. I see a mass uprising happening not unlike the civil war and the end result is a mass purging of trump and all his lackies and stooges from almost every corner of our federal government.

There isn't a news thread, that I can find, for manga. So I'll put this nugget here.
The 50th! and final volume of the English translation of Chihayafuru is set for the 3rd of June.
It's been 3 years since it ended in Japan and 5 😲 since season 3 of the anime ended. 4th season when!? 🙏 (there was about 7 years between 2 and 3!)

It's bizarre that the sequel is getting a live-action series when the original still doesn't have a complete anime adaptation yet.

I was just wondering about that with today's arrivals - thank you for clarifying and explaining!
Technicolor have changed their name to Vantiva.

Won't mean much to most, but if you're a reviewer facing a pile of check discs, then it's good to know that the imprint on the silver disc doesn't mean a different company with perhaps different manufacturing standards.

And Vantiva have now sold their supply chain services…

Check discs will now bear the new company imprint ConnectiV

Just came across another anime review in The Guardian.

I don't think Vampire Hunter D is too bad on this front and I'm a big fan of both films and the dramatized audiobook versions of the novels, but a friend did recently make the valid point that Wicked City came from the same pen and that understandably makes them uncomfortable and put off going near anything else involving either Kawajiri or Kikuchi. I still love Cyber City Oedo 808 as well but I get where they're coming from (yes Wicked City is inventive visually but also rather full of rape and SA).

I don't think the D movie is too bad on this front either. Hideyuki Kikuchi's novels definitely have their fair share of eyebrow raising moments and as you say Wicked City in both the novel and Anime is definitely a lot more off-putting for today's audiences. It's probably a lot to do with Greco's character as he's pretty awful in how he sees Doris as a prize to be won. Still think it's a bit of a stretch to call the film "sleazy". Particularly when compared with some of the stuff that's out there.
