The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Both of these comments made me chucklešŸ˜†

I've always wanted an LE for Wolf Children, easily my favourite Hosoda movie, and hoping they come up with something nice. If I recall correctly, AL currently have the licence for the Hosoda movies - any plans for them releasing this 4k?

The publisher Peow Studios has confirmed that their translation of Stop Hibari-kun is now complete. We can likely expect to hear more about the English print version in the coming months.

I've noticed on AOL that Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram doesn't have a DVD listing anymore and the release date has been changed to TBC 2025 for the blu-ray.

I wonder what is up with this release though as it's been delayed once already but I understand why the DVD version was likely cancelled, I assume there wasn't many pre-orders for it, always the chance they'll stick the DVD with the blu-ray and do a combo-release though.

My Amazon preorder for the BD has now been cancelled outright rather than pushed back. Looks as though AOL have delisted the DVD (though they still have an undated placeholder for the BD) so it's entirely possible that this release is not going to happen at all.

That's not a good sign, such a shame as well if it doesn't happen, hopefully it'll get released in the U.S. at least if it gets cancelled over here so I could at least import it.

As several movie releases by Discotek Media are already listed as OOP and Discotek did not even license movies 24, 25 & 26, chances are quite low that they'll release movie 27...

I'm still waiting for more news on Angels egg and any updates on the dirty pair kickstarter not that I backed it.

Seems likely that the Dirty Pair Kickstarter is dead given this post on Bluesky

They still claim to be working on it - and honestly: I still believe they'll finish it to avoid a massive scandal...
(ok, they could avoid by refunding the backers...)

And they former Funimation production department is still active, however likely scaled down, so they are actually able to do such...

However chances are low regarding the Macross stuff - and they aren't under public pressure, as they did not yet take money for this.

Considering Anime Limited have a Macross panel at MCM despite afaik having no Macross titles licenced that have yet to be released I'd say there's a good chance they're handling the stuff Nozomi had.

I'm glad I chose not to participate in that DP kickstarter even though I used to be a big DP fan. If they don't follow it through to completion they'll probably have a class action lawsuit on their hands from all the thoroughly pissed off backers....!
And on the subject of Macross I'm beginning to think that we'll never see either Frontier or Delta released-at least I've got the jpbd sets for both so I'm good.

AL could put any ridiculous price tag on the Macross Frontier TV series and I would buy it, but I'll be very surprised if they're announcing any of the shows that Nozomi licensed. I'm expecting those to be in limbo until Nozomi's licence expires.

On the other hand, a con panel seems a bit much for just announcing a standard edition of Macross Plus, especially when they previously said it wouldn't be released until a year or more after the ultimate edition. If they do have anything new coming up, the easiest thing for them to get their hands on would probably be sub-licensing Macross II from Animeigo. I rewatched that recently... it was worse than I remembered.

So Trump whacks a 100% tariff on non-US movies…

How much are you willing to pay for anime again?

The guardian headline is much better then the bbc click bate headline.

Who knew he cared so much about protecting the jobs of the woke liberal Hollywood DEI propaganda pushing elites? Farmers, steelworkers, you have to wait your turn. My priority is to protect America’s precious and fragile movie industry. Nobody is watching American movies any more, they’re being destroyed by Chinese imports! George Clooney has to take the bus to work now while Jackie Chan has two Teslas! I said ā€œElon, you shouldn’t let Jackie have those Teslasā€ but well, he’s a businessman. We can understand that, right?

That’s if the ā€œtariffsā€ even last 24 hours this time, it’s all Surkov-style theatre at this point.
