I don't think anybody completely understands GG, though "it's about ethics in video games journalism" is always a good punchline when somebody asks what something is...Honestly, I barely even know what GG is. I tend to use SJW to describe people or sites with a certain slant. The whole 'Fan Service is Evil' thing really gets my goat, and I assume Polygon may have been similar to Kotaku in that way. I suppose that's a different discussion though. Again, sorry if you felt insulted, that wasn't my intention. Even when I'm not talking about YOI as a show, I still manage to put my foot in it
I'm sorry, I probably overreacted too, as I've been saying a lot of the whole "Why do shows for men never get second seasons?" and "The girls have had their shows for ages, now it's time for the men to finally get one too" posts recently, that have rather pissed me off. (The obnoxious level of ignorance behind the idea that somehow Keijo!!!!!!! is the only show in recent years to include fanservice obviously targeted at men does my nut in.) I guess I monologued to get it out of my system in one go, so you ended up with the full brunt of things that weren't your fault.
I would argue that Re:Zero appeal's to a wider audience than Yuri On Ice. Though YOI fans seem very vocal on the matter they do seem to find it difficult to comprehend that it's not everyone cup of tea. Its certain not something I would ever consider watching more because I have no interest in sports anime.
The whole gay relationship in YOI shouldn't really be an issue and it kind of sidtracks discussions of if the show is actually any good.
Regardless Re:Zero's is popular despite the barrage of hate it gets. I still hope this will all lead to a season 2 at some point.
Barrage of hate? I'm maybe one of two people that vocally doesn't like the show. I think you're overplaying it a bit...
Re:ZERO fans equally found it difficult to comprehend that I actively disliked the show and i's protagonists, so it seems rather unfair to try and accuse YOI fans of that.
Also, the classification of YOI as a sports show is a weird one, because it kind-of is and at the same time kind-of isn't. It's more like Free! in the line of it being a "show with sports" rather than a "sports show". I wouldn't dismiss it just because of it's genre.
