After some perhaps questionable sources 'confirmed' it earlier, FUNimation has announced there will be a third season of Tokyo Ghoul and a mobile game. One or both of them is set for 2016, FUNi aren't saying which.

Edit: Despite ANN reporting it, it still seems questionable, so maybe it's happening, maybe it isn't. Who knows?

As I was saying with a fellow AUKN friend, if there was a Season 3 they'll obviously be adapting Tokyo Ghoul:re.

If the studio wants to fix their mistakes they'll have to do what Aniplex did with Black Butler: Book of Circus/Murder, by making the adaptation faithful to the source material and ignore everything that happened with the anime version (i.e. :re anime will follow the manga story).

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this and I haven't seen root A (I've just watched the first 7 episodes of season 1), but it seems like Pierrot are getting the blame for what are scriptwriting problems here. Pierrot just animate the script they're given, and I'd imagine the producers chose the screenwriter, so to blame them for deviation from the manga or for flying through the manga as fast as possible seems unfair.

TG seems to have a sizeable, but fairly underground, hardcore fanbase, so they could literally make Kaneki eat **** for 12 episodes and it'd still probably sell well...

So did Root A finish the manga with an original plot as I'm avoiding Root A for a while

Thats very rushed a 140 chapter manga in 24 eps lets hope one day its gets redone

A lot of people seem to like the pacing , and from what I' ve seen of the first season I don't think it would be improved by going any slower (to be honest I think going slower would probably introduce more problems., but the hated for root A is strong, so it will probably be redone.

I dunno, I really enjoyed what I saw of season 1 - I thought it had really strong pacing even, of a kind you don't normally see in anime. My only major fault with it was the ending, which literally couldn't have been left more open for a second season. Like it literally set up a fight with some key characters and then never returned to them.

Turns out the ANN story was incorrect anyway - they got duped by a spoof site.

Are we sure about that? The company in question is actually doing a TG game (for reference FUNi seems to hold a significant stake in the company), so the current line of thinking is that maybe FUNi have said something they shouldn't have and are now doing damage control.

'@Rialisms: Sorry guys, looks like ANN made a mistake. They reported on a satire article soooo there is no official Tokyo Ghoul season 3 announcement.'

But yeah, I suppose that could suggest they just weren't meant to announce it yet.

No, that wording is very clearly written to give off one impression whilst not excluding another. And from the few bits I've read of Monica Rial's twitter feed, it was almost certainly done deliberately.

If anything I'd argue her tweet gave more credence to it, that and the fact FUNimation aren't exactly being quick to correct people...

I think considering how popular the series was and the fact there is more manga to adapt if they go for :re, which I'd be happy with as I think Tokyo Ghoul is better at its source than the original anime stuff, then season 3 is pretty likely really (especially when they aren't going out of their way to deny it). If they were working on an original season then I'd be far less interesting as I don't think it could be pulled off neatly, but we'll see.

For what its worth I really enjoyed Tokyo Ghoul through both seasons and I don't think there was anything wrong with the pacing. Sure, it's probably a bit rushed in places, but I really have no complaints beyond wishing it had perhaps one or two more episodes at the end to sort a few things out. It is just one of those things where the ending kinda wrote off an original season unless they start adapting :re though.

Huh, so I see that Kyoto Animation have been picked to do the animation for A Silent Voice's movie adaptation, with the director of K-ON set to direct. Not the choice I was expecting at all, but it should look beautiful at least. The manga is excellent and I hope they do it justice.

I have faith in this, I hear their recent movie efforts (Tamako Love Story and Beyond the Boundary Movie 2) have positive reception.

Hype!
When is Tamako Love Story going to be released overseas anyway? I've been waiting forever.

If we're talking Kyoto then I'd rather they get Hyouka out over here before anything else. Tamako Love Story wasn't that great overall really I felt. I hope the Beyond the Boundary movies have proved better than Tamako was.

Everyone keeps mentioning Hyoka - but considering it's not even licensed in the US yet, I imagine any release of it would be late 2016 at the very earliest, more likely 2017 (and that's if it is even picked up).

Just found a copy of the original press release from GameSamba's site, it definitely includes the line in question. So, no ANN didn't report a spoof site, the news is real and FUNi have probably just accidentally dumped themselves in it...

Yeah I don't really see it getting picked up at all at this point. I know there were a few comments about it possibly being picked up, but that was awhile ago and I don't think we've heard anything more since. It's just that whenever Kyoto is mentioned Hyouka is my go-to title in terms of what I want to see come out eventually. :D

While I'm willing to be proven wrong, I still remain skeptical - we hardly ever see news like this come out of the U.S. Before it comes out in Japan. And likewise, I just can't see the JP rights holders suddenly giving Funi the go ahead to make a Tokyo Ghoul game - especially when there's already a Tokyo Ghoul game in Japan. There's just too many parts of the story that feel really unprecedented to me to find it believable.

If it's true, then Funi have probably dumped themselves in serious **** with the JP side for jumping the gun on this - and if it isn't true, then I imagine that site will be getting a strongly worded letter.

GameSamba is a corporate sibling of FUNimation. The two are both owned by Group 1200 Media, there's no doubt of any relationship between the two, and GameSamba seem quite clear that they are developing a game for Tokyo Ghoul (and Fairy Tail). What does either FUNimation, Group 1200 or GameSamba stand to gain from lying about that?

Edit: Having thought about it a bit more, I've heard there's lot of merchandise for Tokyo Ghoul in the US, perhaps FUNi has a good relationship with Shueisha or just a blanket consumer products licence for it?

My guess is FUNi have some kind of a pre-buy deal for the anime, and they've accidentally jumped the gun on the announcement. It does seem weird that nobody at Shueisha looked over the press release before it went out though...

If it's true then I suppose it just goes to show again how different the U.S. Industry is from the UK one in that they're able to get stuff like this off the ground, and have enough sway and confidence with the JP side to convince them to ok stuff like this.

How many companies would actively turn down a chance to make more money with minimal effort?

Although from what I've heard Sui Ishida's quite fussy about the look of his work and how it is presented, so maybe it's not as easy as FUNi are making it look.
