The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I really meant English-language news gathering sites. Having put their Anime Anime link through google translate, the story looks quite legit, but looking at it the other way around, if the news is known and so readily accessible, why have the likes of ANN, who seem to populate their front page with any old nonsense, not already run it? It just seems odd to me.

ANN can also be quite slow at times when it comes to certain subjects. For example, when they write a Pokémon article you can almost always guarantee that the series' dedicated fan websites have already been discussing it for about a week.

ANN are slow on most things. It's kind of funny how often people will post news a week or more after it is announced, just because ANN has finally gotten around to reporting it - often on discussion threads where that same thing has been being discussed since a few minutes after the announcement was made.

Posting news can be a bit weird sometimes, I recall spotting something on a forum while a big event was being run in Japan and then confirming the legitimacy via a companies official youtube channel and posting about/links here, only for everyone to say they were waiting for official confirmation, a few hours later everyone was discussing it because some other site had posted it.

I've been quite impressed with Viewster's selection of titles - I've not tried their iOS app yet, but at least they have one. If they're concentrating on the UK market properly, it'll be interesting to see what they can bring to the table.

I really like Viewster too. There's room for improvement (I'd love a paid, ad-free version of the site as an option, and they really do need a schedule) but it's hard to argue with free anime. They don't seem to be afraid to pick up titles from strange genres and they offer multilingual subtitles, too. I definitely like them a lot more than the UK-specific offerings we have right now and hope more licensors will send titles their way to cover the gaps in Crunchyroll's service.

Anime Limited putting Gundam Reconguista in G up as a paid offering on Vimeo and a free stream on Viewster is pretty much perfect for me. No viewing restrictions for those who won't/can't pay, but a premium service is available for those who want it. Everyone gets to watch the show and recommend it to their friends without overcomplicating things.

My only complaint about Viewster was that, playing it back on a desktop machine, I thought the video image quality could have been better. Not tried watching anything else through them other than Golgo 13 though.

Bleach Season 15 (aka The Invading Army Part 1) has been rated by the BBFC (up to Episode 329) - a mixture of 12's and 15's overall.

The last Bleach release was Season 14 Part 1 (Fall of the Arrancar Part 3: 292-303) from 22nd September 2014. There has been no word on Season 14 Part 2 but it was rated 15 overall back in October 2014.

I imagine the rest of Bleach will be coming soon - it's still one of Manga's more reliable sellers. I get the feeling now the Animatsu news is out there, Manga will be making their strategy known soon too. Maybe there'll be something in next week's NEO.

Are the Bleach releases still coming out via Kaze? Or is it direct via Manga now?

Yeah, well they're on notice until it comes clear that these aren't gonna be PAL'd.

Fingers crossed this split is a clever work around letting them do a hell of a lot more than Manga on it's own was able to do.

Finally, I can buy Future Diary and see what half the world was talking about several years ago >_>

I think this is the first time I've refused to buy a DVD set only for it to eventually pay off.

Funimation Planning Future Diary Blu-ray Release

We could get a UK release now, but it would be Blu ray only so Manga won't do it. AL might though.

I think we all knew it was just a matter of time.

Don't Kaze hold the UK rights though? presumably they are still valid for quite a while so we might still not get it here.

It might be that the blu ray rights, which weren't available at the time can be licensed separately from the DVD. Similar to what AL is doing with Baccano.

Speaking of stuff we all saw coming.

The wait is over.
