I was wondering what the print run is for collectors Space Dandy & Kill la Kill? I'm probably gonna have to cancel one of my pre orders as there's a hundred things out in November! I was thinking Space Dandy might have a smaller run as the standard editions out so soon (and from the pics it looks like the artboxes for the DVD & Blu will be the exact same just with different discs :p)

And different sizes
Looks like the same size to me so far. Obviously they probably aren't finalized pack shots but it makes sense from a business point. One print run of boxes and books just different digipacks (I noticed from the lack of the usual dvd / blu ray logo at the bottom of the spine)

Blu ray:

DVD:

Well if they're the same size it will piss off someone. Make the bd release dvd size and bd collectors will be annoyed. Make the dvd release bd sized and dvd fans will probably be unhappy too.

Railgun SAVE on the day before my birthday? 'Ello, 'ello, 'ello....
Wait, your birthday is on the 21st too? Colour me surprised. But yes, the feeling is mutual regarding Railgun.

Okay, does everyone have a birthday on the 21st of January?

Might have to have a mass Railgun lovefest!
19th January (I did say the day before and it's out on the 20th).
However, we still need a Railfunfest (I was going to say "Railgun lovefest" but mistyped "Railgun" and decided it worked well).

Late to the party, I only just heard today about the Sunrise / Rightstuf Gundam deal.

And when I DID, you can be sure that my fangasm shook the very foundations of HdE towers. This has been LONG overdue.

Glad to hear Andrew's on the case regarding UK Gundam releases as well. The big thing I'm going to be looking out for is - you guessed it - PRICE POINT. It'll be interesting to see how these shows are handled and marketed, retail-wise.

Gundam's a great, important franchise. I'm hoping these developments could make it a little more accessible to western fans. It's great to see a commitment to getting it out there, and providing material that's been asked for by fans. I've been nursing a bitter taste in my mouth over the abortive Turn A release of a couple of years back. REALLY excited to know that this and ZZ are on their way.

It's a good point re. Gundam. The UK has been out of the loop for a long time now. If you search on Amazon, the only real 'official' product out at the moment is the games and Vertical's (admittedly very lovely) manga releases. I imagine like most people though, my strongest link to Gundam is through the anime, so it makes sense to get these all into print again.

I would absolutely love to see more Gundam. Currently, I only own Gundam SEED/Destiny and 00, but would certainly love to own more. It was actually Beez disappearing and losing the likelihood of a UK release of the Gundam 00 movie that led me to start importing blu-rays from America (so yes, A Wakening of the Trailblazer was my first import).

Well, that's interesting (and also rather silly). I wonder which other shows might be caught up like that - since Free! only really stood out due to the strangeness of FUNimation picking up one season and not the other.

I know they're rivals commercially but it would be so much easier on fans if Crunchyroll and FUNimation could be friends.

Fwiw, I believe that's the reason Hunter x Hunter (2011) won't see a physical release either is because Crunchyroll holds the rights.

Interesting. Has Manga ever commented on attempts to pick up Hunter x Hunter? Another one I reckon they'd like to add to their portfolio once DBZ and Bleach finish their releases.

I doubt Crunchyroll has the rights, if so why would they have it available on a competing streaming service like Netflix.

I've said it here before, buut I strongly believe that Gundam could be a MUCH bigger deal outside of Japan. At times it seems almost like somebody's embarrassed by the franchise, or looking for excuses not to TRY with it.

If they really, really wanted to, I'm of no doubt they could have made it as big as Transformers if they had properly tried and been willing to 'ship it' to the Americans. There were touches of that when SEED got fairly big, but it seemed to die down a little after that. That said, I can see why Japan is protective over Gundam, it's a national institution.

But look at Doctor Who, that was 'our' institution, and it started getting properly big in America again because they made the effort to get it syndicated to telly there and ship the stars out to do all the cons etc.

That's probably not the best of comparisons, but Gundam as an IP still has incredible potential - up there with the Star Treks and Star Wars of the world, so it feels odd for it to not be bigger in this increasingly globalised world where we 'share' everything online.
