Ours will be fancy too - the reason I haven't posted yet is we have no reply from Aniplex regarding our model. Here is what I have planned though which is VERY TENTATIVE UNTIL APPROVED:

Volume 1:

- 2 x BD50, 2 x DVD9
- Episodes 1-8 or 1-9, need to confirm with AoA what their first two volumes will have.
- Rigid case
- Digipack
- Storyboard / Art book 1 of 3 (100 - 200 pages, depending on what I can clear)
- Box to hold whole series in*

With box: £59.99-£69.99 SRP dep on what we get in terms of art, so likely £40-£50 on Amazon
No box: £49.99 SRP so likely so likely £30 - £40 on Amazon.

Box may come with Part 3 though depending again on what we get so none of this is determined yet.

Wow, even though it's very tentative, thanks for the info and making the choice a bit harder :) .

Aniplex first two volumes should be 9 episodes. Vol.1 is 4 episodes and if I recall correct vol.2 - 4 will be 5 episodes each. Vol.5 I believe is 6 episodes, the last 5 plus the extra unaired episode.

So 25 episodes over 5 discs, why is that not 5x5? Seems odd doing a 4,5,5,5,6. That disc with 6 on sounds decidedly uncool compared to the extra space the 5's and 4 will have. So AL will have 9,10,6 release I guess if they are doing it over 5 BD 50's? or do you have more freedom to make it a 10,10,5? (might be good to have that art box with the 5)

That sounds very nice, Andrew. I know you don't have the full details yet yourself but how will the eventual disc count look if the first set is 8 episodes on 2 BDs and there will be 5 in total? Is that why the box might come with the final volume, or is that purely a turnaround time concern?

Basically I can only move as quickly as AoA do on the dub and can only access every 2-3 releases as we're doing a different model so we have to wait til they release all the eps in their release for fairness sakes so that's why the disc count.

Box may come with final just due to what we get goodies wise, it all hinges on that really :).

Rui said:
I was wondering whether a 5-disc arrangement could indicate a first volume having the single disc and fewer episodes to snare people into wanting to collect the rest through a lower initial price point (or to partially absorb the cost of the box). I know the v1+box strategy of old was designed around making people feel compelled to buy the rest, though how well it ever worked is something I've never been able to tell.

I don't really like a 4 ep release now so I try to keep it to 8 episodes or more per release really :). Even I have my limits on what kind of product I like to output!

It sounds as though the show is in good hands, and since I'm not going for AoA's sets I could be tempted to get Anime Limited's locally.

(If it was region free I'd be throwing my cash at you already, no questions asked - but you're gradually wearing me down T_T)

R

Alas no region free for us but hope it does prove of interest!

The reason they aren't doing 5x5 is because Aniplex didn't even know that Kill la Kill was getting an OVA Episode (during one of the livestream's).

So far it looks just as good as the Aniplex version (the only thing it needs but will probably never get are the Soundtrack CDs, unless you manage to get the license during/after the Kill la Kill releases). Still undecided at the moment though but I'm glad you're getting a Box to hold the parts together (if possible could it be similar to the Ultimate Editions with an O-card to display the BBFC logos etc?). In addition I hope Video quality will be exactly the same as Aniplex's/original Japanese release, other companies (mainly Funimation and Madman) brighten the releases and cause banding etc. which gives mixed opinions in the fanbase.

Put it up for free on Tumblr complete with Porn Grade Dub from NY Post, CC Every "feminist" tumblr stream into it.

Watch Sales ensue.
Conan is hereby elected to the position of head of online marketing. Michael O'Leary eat your heart out. Perhaps we're missing a trick here though, gender bias is after all an important problem facing today's youth that can clearly only be solved by the equal objectification of men by women. Start looking into Yaoi titles too Josh, the more hardcore the better.

Gavitation for some, miniature American flags for others.

This puts me in a tough spot since I've already got AoA's first volume on Pre-Order. I'm conscious of the amount of space Aniplex's release will take up, but I do like all the little extras and stuff... I might wait it out and see what you come up with. To be honest I do want to continue supporting your model and see where it goes.
I am surprised that Aniplex are letting you release Kill La Kill over three volumes though to be honest. What's your release schedule looking like at the moment? When are you aiming to get each part out?

Too big? Upsetting FR releases? Insane KickStarter supporters? Pacific Rim? Lots of stuff to comment on, let's rock!
Sidenote: comment about the Kill La Kill news will be coming later I reckon, I'm going to take a few things in consideration and might politely mail Andrew a question I have about KLK first.

Soooo they have fair reason to be upset - I wish people weren't so rude about it on our UK page as nobody on that is linked to the problems, but I'm shuffling things round to course correct in future!
Welcome to planet Earth, I hope you enjoy your stay!

That's the first time I've heard anyone complaining about something being too big ;).
The first time? You must have some kind of filter in your brain that filters all things related to complaining about being "too big" and now had hardware failing on you for the first time..

Not to mention 4 people donated $5000 to this Kickstarter, seriously?
Welcome to planet Earth, would you like to have some potato salad to sweeten your stay?

So it seems that in Q4, Pony Canyon are going to be re-issuing Clannad, Clannad After Story, Air and Kanon in "Compact Collections" on BD in Japan.
For whatever reason each set will be 2 discs (1 in the case of Air), without any audio commentaries/subs/extras. I must ask the question, Why? Who on earth thought this is a good idea?
Plot twist, the one who decided it wasn't human and doesn't really live on earth!

But yeah, it's definitely a stupid decision in my opinion... And here I am, still hoping for a region B Blu-ray of Clannad... When will I give up? xD

It would be nice if Andrew can get a overall round up on what sold the most in 2013 and what sold the most on both formats.
Waiting in the summer. (Pun intended)

I asked about the third season of The World God Only Knows and got a definitive 'no'. It's nice when Jerome answers tweets because you usually get a straight answer (no offense Jeremy). The first two seasons didn't sell well apparently. At least I know to just go ahead and buy the US or Aus release, assuming someone picks up the license.
Yeah, direct answers are nice and better where available. But I don't think Jerome gives Jeremy a list of definite "no" titles.
Either way, I'm convinced some titles did horrible due to the lack of Blu-ray (like Clannad and K-On), and TWGOK might very well be another one of those.
Now I can add this to the list of titles I need to decide whether to risk not watching it until I have a job, hoping that Sentai's releases won't go OOP by 2018.

Don't know if anyone saw but Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pans Labyrinth, The Orphanage, etc) did a Reddit AMA yesterday, he was asked about Anime/Manga.

Awesome! (I should watch Pacific Rim someday.)

Didn't Jerome say on Twititer that he would rather slam his balls in a door than license Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura? Maybe it's all Gundam? That is a very long shot though.
Ironically in the overseas cover thread pics popped up of new (re-)releases of Gundam by Madman. It's sad Manga already confirmed they don't have it.
I do however keep things like Ranma 1/2 and Sailor Moon for possible.

Will we ever see a localized release of the hentai prince and the stony cat?

Not from us I'm afraid. >JM
It seems clear that Sentai have the UK rights to this and, while Manga have sub-licensed from them at least once (Angel Beats), their usual partners in crime are MVM and Hanabee. Announcement upcoming perhaps?

That tweet was made in 2013 before the Sailor Moon redub was announced and before NISA got hold of the Animax dub for their CCS release I think. Manga aren't very willing to take chances with subtitled only properties or ones with old unprofitable dubs. Their stance may have changed with the One Piece subtitled sets or it might just be because it's One Piece.

Has MVM ever given an answer/indication on a little busters or raildex license ? Likewise has Manga ever given an kind of indication on if they'd license haganai ? I've asked them so many times

whenever i've asked it gets ignored. I get the impression manga are not interested, and mvm usually joins with hanabee and releases around the same time as them, so they presumably aren't either as they have been available in oz for ages. I try not to import, to support the small uk industry but sometimes they make it so hard.

I find myself in the same boat as you, I don't like importing. Both Haganai and little busters are region free, so it's kinda hard to resist, but given then MVM recently licensed korkoro connect and raildex is getting a BD I still hold out hope those can be licensed. I'm beginning to give up on haganai though, I just wish manga could say if they're trying, so I could continue to hold out.
