Looking at some of Manga UK's biggest sellers over the past two years - ie. High School of the Dead and High School DxD, I get the impression 'tit' shows are very popular at the moment. Do they attract an audience beyond the usual anime buyers - ie. casual buyers curious for a flash of flesh? Like you say - what drove purchases back in the 90s - nudity and racy language.

Otherwise, you've just got the regulars buying Naruto - or the mega-franchises that come along every so often like SAO or AoT that will always sell reliably. I get the impression even Bleach doesn't sell as well as it used to.

Waiting for Jerome to stand up at the next con and announce their two tier release strategy is the biggest hits and the biggest t.. , I think we see where this is going.

I do wonder how things like Sekirei and Freezing sold, I've never heard them mention as big sellers despite them falling into the same category as HOTD & DxD.

Which is kind of ironic when they're 'Anime Classics' in the US (I know Sekirei isn't but considering it's been doing well for them, it might as well be).

It would be nice if Andrew can get a overall round up on what sold the most in 2013 and what sold the most on both formats.

Put it up for free on Tumblr complete with Porn Grade Dub from NY Post, CC Every "feminist" tumblr stream into it.

Watch Sales ensue.
Conan is hereby elected to the position of head of online marketing. Michael O'Leary eat your heart out. Perhaps we're missing a trick here though, gender bias is after all an important problem facing today's youth that can clearly only be solved by the equal objectification of men by women. Start looking into Yaoi titles too Josh, the more hardcore the better.

Much as I would wholeheartedly endorse a move back to Manga Video's traditional values, I think the sort of anime that brought them to power just isn't being made at a sustainable rate anymore.
All this silliness aside, that was what I was getting at really. Audience tastes have changed in Japan and the anime being produced has adjusted to cope with that, but tastes haven't really changed here in the same way.

DxD sold well? I have it on blu-ray and kinda wish it was a combi-pack, as I haven't had the chance to watch it on my blu-ray player yet as it's erm..hooked up to a TV.

ayase - License Boku no Pico and give it an English dub starring people with socialist views or backgrounds and release it with the marketing tagline "It's so naughty, Margaret Thatcher tried to cover it up!". The Daily Mail would eat it up.

Hen Semi would also be another choice (although not a yaoi), just because of how weird that show is. Sexual liberation and all that.

Genius, Josh. How are you not working for one of the big players?

Erm, I might have to check out Hen Zemi. Thanks for the recommendation. Also when did ANN (much like YouTube, but at least there are browser extensions to rectify that) decide to left-align its content pages? Everybody has a widescreen monitor now, it's like they think people love having half of their monitor empty and their content not directly in front of them.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

An update to Adblock has caused that. Turning off Adblock for ANN restores the pages to normal formatting. Of course if you don't use Adblock, then I don't know what's going on. But that worked for me.

If you're using the easylist block list for ABP, then it blocks two items that are vital to keeping the page properly centred (the aframe blocks can be left in place as they're for adverts that you wouldn't want shown).

Manga UK's July Podcast - Here

Overall, nice interview with the Ashens guy and what expos they went with but other than that it was average. As usual 75% of the AskMangaUK comments were skipped but the ones they went with were good to hear about. I'm guessing they're saving all their news for MCM Manchester this Saturday at 2pm.

In addition Viewster have responded to my tweet and that there will be more anime coming to their service for the UK especially from Aniplex.

Assuming this Doesn't change, Madman's Attack On Titan collection 2 LE will come with the same psychical extras as Funimations shop exclusive.

According to this Madman's first Blu-ray volume of Kill la Kill will have 4 episodes. Now seen as they said their release will be 5 volumes and going on that link saying volume 1 has 4 episodes, could Madman be using Aniplex discs like they did with Blue Exorcist. Same disc just locked to B and with their logo and trailers. If they do, that means you could get what is essentially Aniplex release at a much cheaper price. (disc wise at least)

This has now got me curious. If, and I say if they are doing as I suggested, I wonder whether Anime Limited will be getting the discs from Madman, meaning we would also have what is essentially Aniplex discs or are Anime Limited doing their own discs.

Re Madman - we'll make our own discs, but we'll be going down to 5BDs as well by looks of it, split over 3 titles so you can expect a pretty juicy bit-rate :).

That help?

5 BD50's? I Assume both audio tracks will be lossless like the AoA release, but will they be 24bit or 16bit? (I assume AoA will be 24bit)

Not really, makes the decision harder, lol :D.

1. Aniplex release with the fancy extras, but at a price.
2. Madman's release which could be the same discs, not sure about any other extras apart from an artbox at the moment but a cheaper price.
3. Anime Limited's release. Apart from being 5 discs, no more info yet regarding release date, price, psychical extra, artbox etc. Not a fan of digipacks though.

Unsure - need to get a reply on assets before I could say.

Ours will be fancy too - the reason I haven't posted yet is we have no reply from Aniplex regarding our model. Here is what I have planned though which is VERY TENTATIVE UNTIL APPROVED:

Volume 1:

- 2 x BD50, 2 x DVD9
- Episodes 1-8 or 1-9, need to confirm with AoA what their first two volumes will have.
- Rigid case
- Digipack
- Storyboard / Art book 1 of 3 (100 - 200 pages, depending on what I can clear)
- Box to hold whole series in*

With box: £59.99-£69.99 SRP dep on what we get in terms of art, so likely £40-£50 on Amazon
No box: £49.99 SRP so likely so likely £30 - £40 on Amazon.

Box may come with Part 3 though depending again on what we get so none of this is determined yet.

Sounds great Andrew. Extremley excited for KlK and Space Dandy. Heard great things about the start of the second season so far (i'm waiting to a home video release before watching though)

That sounds very nice, Andrew. I know you don't have the full details yet yourself but how will the eventual disc count look if the first set is 8 episodes on 2 BDs and there will be 5 in total? Is that why the box might come with the final volume, or is that purely a turnaround time concern?

I was wondering whether a 5-disc arrangement could indicate a first volume having the single disc and fewer episodes to snare people into wanting to collect the rest through a lower initial price point (or to partially absorb the cost of the box). I know the v1+box strategy of old was designed around making people feel compelled to buy the rest, though how well it ever worked is something I've never been able to tell.

It sounds as though the show is in good hands, and since I'm not going for AoA's sets I could be tempted to get Anime Limited's locally.

(If it was region free I'd be throwing my cash at you already, no questions asked - but you're gradually wearing me down T_T)
