You'd be silly to import it from Rightstuf. It's far cheaper to import from Amazon JP.

If I remember correctly, at London Comic Con, one of the panelists (I can't remember who) said that the rights holders in Japan were basically not playing ball. I'm guessing they were waiting for season 2 to begin airing.

One of the theories I saw on ANN is that they'll announce season 1 at an upcoming convention.
If I remember correctly It was Andrew who said someone was sitting on the rights to all English speaking territories. He mentioned that there was a hold back on the BD rights though.
Didn't Viz drop a heavy hint about Free! months ago?

So, as Funi have Free Season 2 for home video (and possibly season 1), does that mean the ball is in Manga's court for a UK release? (Recall reading bits about exclusivity of Funi licenses to the UK and Manga having dibs) cause I want Free and I don't see Manga picking it up ...
Most of the time Funimation gets US, UK and AU rights. There's indeed a deal where Manga gets the first choice for titles. (and Madman in Australia)
If Manga declines an offer Funimation has the option to talk to MVM, Anime Ltd and Kaze.
Andrew Partridge has stated in the past though that he prefers to deal with Japan directly, so chances of Anime Ltd picking up a declined title are small.

The same counts for Sentai/Hanabee and MVM. Sentai has picked up US, UK and AU rights to a lot of their 2013 and 2014 releases.
MVM and Hanabee are the first in line to pick the title up as a sub-license. If they decline Manga and Anime Ltd can pick it up.

How to explain Space Dandy and Garden of Words to name two examples of exceptions in their catalog. I think Andrew jumped on the ball early on with Space Dandy.
As for Garden of Words. Either Sentai didn't have the UK rights, or MVM declined because it's a kind of movie and MVM rarely pick up movies.

Either way, this exclusivity thing is what keeps Manga/Madman big, will help MVM/Hanabee grow and Siren Visual barely on the radar.
I've been led to believe for a good while now that Kaze will leave the UK market when Bleach is over.
How about Anime Limited? Well, they're making their company big by playing a smart game. Sad they have had some issues in the past.

As for Free, I think you could be right that Manga won't bother. I think that you'll have to convince Andrew Partridge if anyone really.

PS: Talking about stuff that needs to get picked up in the UK... Sentai went back to dub certain titles, it'd be nice if someone picked those up that haven't been picked up in the UK yet (for Blu-ray release of course). As always, I prefer Anime Limited. But I honestly wouldn't mind Manga getting Nyan-Koi for instance. As long as Kaze doesn't get it I'm fine. And as long as there's no disc count logo I won't be submitting holdbacks of my own to getting it due to being devalued.

Oh wow, thanks for that. Makes things more clear for me :)
I'd love it if Andrew got his hands on Free (dat packaging) but I don't know if anyone would take the risk, it's a slice of life/sports show targeted towards females :S though he did say that he wanted to get titles out that appeal to different types of people or something along those lines and they don't have a female targetted one yet (though they may go shojo with that) ..we shall see, otherwise, I guess I'd wait to see if the funi release is compatible with our BD players, if they can release it on that format that is ..

With what you said about MVM there, they have possibly got their hands on some big titles for the UK with that deal.

Amazon JP have set Hanamonogatari for September/October 2014

With Neko Black released in April, Neko White released in June and Kabuki set for August. I think it's safe to assume the rest will arrive in October (Otori), December (Oni) and February (Koi) with Hana possibly in April.

What's the differences between black and white anyways
They're story arcs.

Black is set before Bakemonogatari.
White is set after Nisemonogatari and is the start of Monogatari Second Season.

I just got the standard DVD re-release of Oreimo. That played on a blu-ray player looks a hell of a lot better than most native blu-rays. Even with that though, I'm hesitant to spend the current £80 (£47) asking price for the season 2 DVD set. I'll probably wait until we get another cheaper DVD set. Not sure I want to pay that much for season 2 anyway xD.

The thing with Free! is, while it certainly is a risky property, I do wonder if it would be any more of a risk than Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions or Tamako Market (which MangaUK did hint at when I asked the anime industry panel at Comic Con)? I think it was Andrew who said that with KyoAni shows, it's more of a "when" not an "if" with KyoAni shows, so maybe they do better than we think? (Although clearly not enough to give the K-ON! TV series' blu-ray releases >>). I mean, I'd totally snap up both Chu-2 and Tamako if they made it out here, but would the wider audience? To be honest, out of all the recent KyoAni shows, I think the safest one to license would be Beyond the Boundary (and I haven't seen that series yet - that's just based on the reaction I've seen online).

And Princess Jellyfish is in a mini-limbo situation for now:

The UK version of that ( from kaze) Is going OOP !!?

Not to worry, I should have made it much clearer (in fact I forgot a UK version was around). I'm referring to the US combo pack (region locked to A/1) which recently sold out.

*sigh* Oreimo - if there's any title I'd love to see a UK release of, it's Oreimo. Sad to see it taking so long, as I reckon it'd be a strong seller, going by how well similar shows have been selling over here recently.

Oh yes, because if anything's going to get though BBFC it's Oriemo; the show that ends with the MC marring his Sister who's a frickin' Mary Sue of the highest order.

I'm not being Sarcastic, the BBFC can't properly Board of Film Classify to save it's Jurassic Life and it will leave anything that can't be misconstrued as a young girl watching the sexual delinquency of minors in regardless of how abhorrent it is.

(And as someone who has a younger sister, is completely wrong about how sisters work).

I think I can leave the obvious out of this.
And thus darkness will unfurl it's banner across yet another region of the cosmos...

Haha! Well, in that case, I look forward to adding it to my collection.

I'd look forward to December then ;).

Andrew

I see, so is this the mystery film you were referring to earlier (along with a mystery TV series that no one knows about yet)?

Shinkai Collection - Working on dub access, which is pretty pricey! Watch this space but before end of 2014 is believable - also expect (although as of yet unlisted):

- Wings of Honneamise
- Blood Lad
- Mystery Film (not yet announced)
- Mystery series in Collector's Edition (BD only, not yet announced)

- Kill la Kill: Part 1 of 3
- Psychic School Wars is also likely

Will have a full list when I get time to sit down :).
