Schedule for the MCM Expo:
11:00 - 11:45 - Theatre B - Aniplex of America make their presence known at London Comic Con with their very own panel
Eh? Am I seeing this right?
I'm perfectly okay with this, but why would Aniplex of America bother to have anything to do with the UK?

Wasn't Anime Limited involved with their appearance. Well it's not like they're going to announce Aniplex of Britain (or Aniplex of Britannia) or something.

If AL have something to do with it, I wonder if they have some kind of exclusive deal with Aniplex to have priority when it comes to distributing their shows. (Like Manga did with Funi?)
Oh well, needless to say I'll be going along to see what Aniplex have to say. I hope it's something worthwhile and exciting, and not just "HEY GUYS, WE EXIST!"

Well it has been confirmed that the 2 titles AL are announcing with AoA (as guests) on the panel are not Aniplex shows, so maybe they'll be discussing the physical strategy for Kill la Kill in the UK (since the US details are on the 28th May Aniplex Live Show) with AoA while AL announces their two titles.

Sentai's September line-up is revealed.

Overall, not happy that K-On! & Tamako didn't get a Blu-ray (though it's probably because of the recent BD-Box [on K-On!'s point, then again how did AU get it?]). Fate/Kaleid & Tamako Market is finally arriving in bilingual form. There's Golden Time too.

Tamako Market is being released, so that begs the question, Where the foo is Hyouka? Maybe it's because the licensor appears to only be allowing DVD releases for Kyoani shows? Iuno.
The only thing which really has any chance to be picked up by me provided it's not on a Single Disc is Golden Time. I'm kind of glad these next few months are pretty underwhelming from both Funi and Sentai.

Madman's release just collects Bandai's BD volumes to my knowledge with the nerfed Japanese Audio. It was also released way before the JP BD-Box and is region B locked.
I'll probably pick up the Japanese BD Box Eventually since it's very much English friendly, with Japanese Audio & Eng Subs for the Episodes + Extras (Although it excludes the Dub, but who cares really cares. It's K-On.).

I was kinda hoping that, or ..AL announce they'll be disturbing titles for Aniplex in the UK, like the KAZE/MANGA deal... a girl can dream right? ..RIGHT!? ... :|

Wow, the first month in a long time I haven't wanted a single Sentai release. September solicitations already? This year is passing too quickly ;_;

Bunch of MVM stuff is now up for pre - order, including the leaked shows: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st?key ... -desc-rank

Arcana Famiglia now has a release date of Sept 8th, DVD only.

EDIT: MangaUK posted this tidbit about their schedule on facebook, found this part interesting:

Anime Industry Q & A Panel, 15:00 @ MCM Theatre B

Representatives from Manga Entertainment, Anime Limited, MVM Entertainment and Aniplex will be sharing the stage to bring you news on what you can expect in the way of anime releases coming to the UK. You will also have the opportunity to put your questions to each distributor.

I guessed correctly. Well MVM said there's still more so I'm curious to see what else they have to offer.

And all of the other new MVM Blu-rays are now labelled Region Free...

-----------------------------

Just some quick news:
- Crunchyroll have announced the region details for the new titles announced from Anime Central 2014; manga series The Tenth Prism and the J-Drama show Rebound will be available for UK, Europe and Australasia. The live-action films Ichi 1: Origin and Ring of Curse plus the anime movie Princess and the Pilot will not be available to anyone outside US and Canada.
- On Your Mark, the music video that Studio Ghibli once animated will not be available on the upcoming Studio Ghibli Miyazaki Movie Blu-ray BOX. The reason is down to the arrest of Aska, a member of the two man band Chage and Aska (whom sang the song 'On Your Mark') for being involved with drugs. The DVD shorts 'Ghibli ga Ippai' will also be halted to remove the music video.
- Viz Media are now offering digital owners the chance to read the Fate/Stay Night manga as part of their Viz Select service. Like every title under the Select tag, no physical release is planned.
- Another Dragon Ball game was announced a few days ago but this time will be arriving on the PlayStation 4. Some screens and a new teaser site have been revealed.
- Slightly off topic, but J-RPG fans should know that Drakengard 3 is now available on PlayStation 3 for PSN only (UK, Europe and Australasia) while US can also receive a physical retail release. The Japanese version was also released in retail form (under the original name 'Drag-on Dragoon 3').

Hyouka has never been licensed or streamed, so it joins Munto on the short list of KyoAni shows I've never seen.

Has it not? That sucks. I was heavily considering watching it soon too :/

Shame about Hyouka, I wonder why no one was able to (or decided to) license it.

Having watched it I'd say it's likely because a lot of the mysteries and the general story is very dependent on certain Japanese things that don't translate well to English. A dub would certainly leave the viewers a little lost, because a lot of the humour and script just wouldn't translate over very well unless the dub was extreamly well done (which they likely wouldn't bother to do considering how niece the show is).

I'd really like to see it come out as a sub-only release because it is a really good show, it's just a risky one in that it's certainly not a show to everyone's tastes.

If Aniplex announced an "Aniplex of Europe" that dealt with the entire European continent, that would be pretty neat.

Also, great to FINALLY see a Tamako Market release. Sentai took their time with that one! DVD only though? Really?

With aniplex style prices ? No thank you. I'd much rather UK companies just license off them and release shows for decent prices ala SAO, Blue Exorcist and Madoca Magica (Manga) Monogatari series (MVM) Gurren lagann and Durarara (Anime Limited).

You mean so that we are forced to have them released quite a while after the North American releases, lacking almost all of the extras America receives and thus selling poorly due to importers (e.g. Madoka Magica)?

Aside from the Japanese imports which are a different piece of cake, their releases aren't that expensive when you exclude shipping to a foreign country and custom fees in that country. Each of the Madoka Magica volumes was sold for £44.37 on RightStuf. Yes, each volume only had four episodes, but you had the series on both DVD and blu-ray, a soundtrack CD, 2 posters, 4 art cards and a fully translated booklet. Sure, MangaUK's release of the series was a lot cheaper, but for what you received with the limited editions, they were certainly worth the money.

It's also worth noting that with both Madoka Magica and Sword Art Online, Aniplex of America also made basic standard editions available at the same time (although I think SAO's blu-ray was restricted to the collector's edition, admittedly). Releasing both options at the same time suits both tastes when it comes to products.

Worth is subjective. For me, £44 for four episodes and a lot of tat I won't use is not worth it. If that model is bought to the UK then I know I won't be jumping for joy.

The model all the anime use is my preferred option. Slightly higher premium for nicer packaging and an art card set or booklet.

i doubt anyone knows the real figures but im sure the uk import sales of madoka with all the extras was pretty small so its impact to UK sales cant of been that big, vocal yes but large quantity?

the only way any kind of aniplex europe/uk would be good in my mind is if their model guarantees a standard edition as well eventually. but i imagine if something sells bad at premium they wont take the risk to print more.

Being a party killer - the reason there's an AoA panel folks is they're here managing the Blue Exorcist guests so I invited them to host a panel as it was a rare chance to introduce them directly to the UK and what they do here.

No Aniplex of Europe announcements I am afraid!

Ah, that makes sense! Especially as they do make a fair few of their products available to the UK on their website already.

(Maybe they could be prodded about at least opening a warehouse in Europe though, so we don't get stung with customs?)

But then there are also things like the Gurren Lagann Ultimate Edition, which is pretty premium. That will be followed by regular editions a few months after release though.

With Madoka, they did release the series in regular bare-bones sets for people who didn't want the premium, so as I said in my previous post, both sides of the fence got an option (although it would have been cool if they didn't break it up into three sets but as Sword Art Online shown, we'd probably end up being tied down by their release method in some way anyway).
