Thanks for the heads up - I had Psycho-Pass (extra-tight box replacement for the previous defective box) and Koe De Oshigoto (known for another annoying problem) ship today, so at least with Amnesia I have enough time to cancel my preorder and avoid three reminders of how terrible quality control is in the anime industry all at once :(

I was looking forward to it, too. Bah.

Personally, the fact that they are BIG & YELLOW makes them irritating.

Their scripts range from okay to bad, they pretty much constantly use the same regulars (some of which, e.g. Greg Ayres, are just plain awful), they consistently completely miscast characters (Go and watch Little Busters as an example) and the voice acting in Sentai dubs is usually just plain bad. Even Persona 4: The Animation, which might I add had a brilliant dub for the game, ended up just being "Okay", and some of the character dialogue felt out of character or just wrong. It's like neither the Dub Director nor the cast give a toss.
In the last year, from all the Sentai releases I have, the only series with passable or good dubs were Dusk Maiden, Kids on the Slope, Mardock Scramble and Children Who Chase Lost Voices.

Sentai releases as a whole just aren't really a pleasant experience at all. Their releases are barebones and cost more than the competition. On top of that you're paying for a Naff Dub, Naff BIG YELLOW EARLY 2000 SUBTITLES and Naff video (Which will only get worse with their Single Disc releases). It's gotten to the point where it's getting increasingly difficult for me to justify purchasing titles from them compared to downloading superior sub BDrips (Nicer Subs+Typesetting, Better Video etc.), especially now they've started the whole aforementioned single disc releases. Last season I actually started looking at the Japanese BDs for Sentai licensed shows to see if they were subbed, which unfortunately barely happens. I would've easily bought the JP sub BDs of Golden Time, although can't say the same about the eventual US half sets.

What about the tiny & white subtitles that funimation forces down everyones throats (you know, the same subtitles that can't be read if the background is the same colour).

To be honest, I prefer the subtitles on sentai/maiden Japan releases since they're easier to read (at least when they get things right, which doesn't seem to be that often considering the amount of errors that crop up on their releases).
 
FUNimation have a much better typeface for their releases. I'd say the 2 companies are equally good with the cockups with Sentai leading the way slightly.
 
Sentai's work on K-ON! The Movie really shows why you should adapt a script, not just translate it. So much the humour in that movie revolved around the language barriers the girls faced, which was lost in the dub. One scene that makes me cringe is when the characters are on the plane to London and Yui tells Azusa that from there on out, they are to speak no more Japanese...despite the rest of the film before that, being in English.
To be honest, I think it should have been a subtitle only release, because there's no real way they could have worked around the humour. Even then though, there were some jokes in season two that could have very easily been rewritten that were left as is.

Also, Greg Ayres being cast as Taichi in Kokoro Connect ruined my day when I found that out. The only role I've seen him play that I've liked was in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Not seen it, but with the Japanese audio track, I assume after the line "speak no more Japanese", they start speaking in English.

Didn't realise the DVDs for Forte were Region 2 compatible. Guess this means my theory was correct and that the original Blu-ray/DVD release was supposed to be A|B|1|2 until Kadokawa stepped in and screwed things up for their 'importation fears'. I wish Funimation could of gotten the Region B rights for the Anime Classics re-release though, rather than just re-using the same discs. My plan on getting HLP is screwed up with the Season 1 AC release given a cheap ass release (and not to mention they're being even more lazy by reprinting the slipcover so that it's DVD sized, not by making the cases Blu-ray sized).

Have you watched any Funimation release from the last two years? They changed the typeface from the stupidly thin, near borderless one used in their early Blu-ray releases to something much more readable.

I can read katakana (not a big thing; takes a week or two to learn them all) and I can't make head nor tails of that. But apparently it's a slang term for a certain part of the male anatomy. With that in mind, I do see the character for "chi". Heh.

Either way it's pretty hilarious that this has surfaced, and hopefully it'll be the thing to give them a good kick up the ass when it comes to QC.

They'll be offering replacement disks - have Sentai done replacements before?

MVM have also confirmed at least one announcement for MCM that they can't wait to share.
 
i also prefer white subs than yellow, but if its that annoying are you sure your tv brightness etc is calibrated properly, out the box they are usually set up pretty bad and very bright which will make the yellow subs a lot worse.
 
It had escaped my notice that the adaptation of Gundam: The Origin is back on and definitely happening this time, with a run of four theatrically-released parts starting next spring.


Not being familiar with the source manga, I had rather expected the anime to be a straight up remake of the original series, so it surprised me to see this first film is apparently focused on Char's back story, rather than anything involving Amuro Ray.
