You have to admit that's a pretty damn good number
For Toonami it's pretty freaking fantastic and about the best numbers anime's done for it in a long while (though sometimes their metrics are whacky, apparently having 0.3% of viewership for Code Geass when it was punted to the very back of the night was a failure.)

That's amazing numbers for AoT - it'll never happen but I'm still holding out hope that someone in the UK will pick it up for TV broadcast.

Internet viewing is definitely the future, but in the meantime, TV exposure is basically the biggest advertising you could ever wish for. If an anime is ever to sell properly decent numbers, (ie. over 4000 copies), it needs a bit of that.

As far as Manga are concerned you can forget it on both fronts; they expressively say they're not perusing TV whilst they proceed to not lift finger one to get their stuff online.

Which blows hot chunks when things get taken down like AoT (Which makes sense for the US market but it sure lobs our nose off).

The disappearance of One Piece Season 6 has been resolved:

- Unlicensed films still looking to acquire; possibly multiple films per release (if licensed)
- Season 6 delayed due to fast-track Film Z: trying to release both at end of September (30th)
- Collection 10 is planned for the next month or two

Film Z by September? I hope so.

I doubt anyone will pick Attack On Titan up for TV, because it's animation and only animation written by Seth MacFarlane can ever be for anyone other than kids!

On a serious note though - what channel would it air on? The only channels that spring to mind that air animation for anyone other than children are comedy orientated and Attack On Titan might not fit on those?

Manga and MVM Q3 releases look to be launching on Amazon VERY soon. They just showed up on the site with the "alert me" option and weren't there yesterday.

GITS steelbook is now up on Amazon at £29.47. I know Zavvi is cheaper but I have pre-ordered here due to Amazon pre-order price promise. Between now and release it will most likely drop and this way I haven't got to keep checking to see if the price has gone down.

Random food for thought regarding Attack On Titan: I made a post on Facebook about the US ratings earlier and saw that it was liked by someone I knew back from school, who was without a doubt the most popular girl in the year group and probably as main stream as you can get.

Not a definite sign of anything, but fun anecdotal evidence anyway.

I really do hope AOT sells well in the UK - it'd be awful if it became another Madoka or Tiger & Bunny; massive hype but then small-ish sales. I can't see that happening considering just how big the show (and the manga) is, but even so - I suppose it's an unavoidable symptom of the UK being so far behind.

The irony is, if only every series came out only 12 months or so after it screened in Japan! I notice Valvrave hasn't been announced for a UK release yet, despite screening at the same time as AOT and Gargantia.

Complaining about Spring last year stuff not having been announced yet?

Can I remind you that Toradora was announced in March, having aired in Japan in Autumn 2008? And they're the lucky ones - Index fans are still (im)patiently waiting for a license for that series which aired during the same season.

And then, of course, there's Dragon Ball. Which came out last week. And started airing halfway through what would nowadays be considered as winter 1986.

That said, I do agree with your point and have argued it myself before - the closer to the airing date they release a series, the more copies it will sell. And the happier the fans will be.

Not complaining per se - just interesting to see the speed at which different releases make it over. AOT proves that, if everything aligns (albeit for a super popular show) a 12 month turnaround can be done. Wouldn't it make sense for this to be the standard (to help drive legal purchases) than just 'special treatment' for only the most popular shows?

What really killed Madoka in the UK was that Aniplex USA had these amazing limited edition sets that were region free.
No idea why Tiger & Bunny didn't do well, as our release was far prettier than Viz Media's.

And yeah, I remember asking Tony from MVM about Index/Railgun at the MCM Expo last May. Pretty sure it won't be announced next week either.

Just received my copy of Haganai Next, as mentioned earlier in the thread Ep2 has had some alterations and Funimation have actually been good enough to announce this fact on the back of the release

"Episode 2 contains select footage from the Japanese broadcast version."

The release is 124 AB if anyone is interested

Whilst it was visually prettier, it was worse in pretty much every other way. Four Parts - each part costing almost as much as one of viz's half sets, no extras, 4x BD25s with worse video, no song/sign subs, combo pack and Kaze.
On the other side of that Siren's release came with the physical extras/digipack, was better quality and apparently didn't have locked subs.
The fact that everyone else's releases were better quality, cost less and were out months before the UK release finished is probably part of the reason why it didn't do well, which is a massive shame considering how good the show is.
It probably would have done so much better if a proper UK Distributor got the rights to the show.

And for the rich maniacs, the Japanese release of Tiger & Bunny came with English subtitles and much nicer goodies, like CDs of Morita Masakazu talking. So the premium audience was split right from the beginning. Pretty sure they're region free like most JP discs though I have no way to confirm this.

I thought the Australian release came slightly after ours?
I do wonder what caused Andrew to snap The Beginning and The Rising up before Kazé had a chance though.

I think the crux of it comes down to how the UK is screwed over by Japan and America and ends up with everything late.

Mardock Scramble: Third Exhaust gets away with a 15 for both the Theatrical and Directors Cut.

Wonder if Kaze will do like the first. English dub for the theatrical and not the directors cut, even though there is a dub for the directors cut.

On the subject of Mardock Scramble. Is there any news if they are coming out on Blu-ray in Australia?
