No idea why Tiger & Bunny didn't do well, as our release was far prettier than Viz Media's.
Whilst it was visually prettier, it was worse in pretty much every other way. Four Parts - each part costing almost as much as one of viz's half sets, no extras, 4x BD25s with worse video, no song/sign subs, combo pack and Kaze.
On the other side of that Siren's release came with the physical extras/digipack, was better quality and apparently didn't have locked subs.
The fact that everyone else's releases were better quality, cost less and were out months before the UK release finished is probably part of the reason why it didn't do well, which is a massive shame considering how good the show is.
It probably would have done so much better if a proper UK Distributor got the rights to the show.

Australian has a complete collection for Tiger and Bunny now too though it's really just parts 1 and 2 with a slip cover.

By the way, has anyone desperate for Gundam considered ordering from Amazon.fr as the french releases do have English subtitles and English dubs?

Do we have a thread about foreign language editions that have English subs and dubs?

That's a coincidence considering I just watched a YT video of someone who bought Gundam Seed & Wing from Amazon FR that mentioned it had the Dub & Sub included.

In terms of a thread, not that I know of. :|

So Gargantia is listed for September? I don't honestly see Manga getting it out then.
Viz haven't even announced it yet, and there always seems to be massive gaps between Viz and everyone else releasing the same title. At least it gives me an idea as to when I should be able to import their release.

If Gargantia is that price on Amazon for the Blu-ray, I'll definitely be pre-ordering. One of my faves of that season.

So its currently £25.99 on Anime On Line or £34.12 on Amazon. Do I pay now at the lower or pre-order from Amazon and see if the price goes down? Do AOL put their price up much prior to actual release or is it gonna sit at that price now?

AOL will keep that price, Amazon will drop for sure. Amazon is quite expensive these days actually. Even more after international shipping aint free no more. Everything is going up there lately. UP1 might turn out to be my only choice to get stuff in the near future, at least they dont charge insane shipping like amazon.

FYI:
Gargantia is £22.99 and Psycho Pass (Both Parts 1 & 2) are £19.99 on Base.com
Ghost In the Shell Steelbook is £19.99 there too.

We do 25% off the RRP till the end of whatever month a title is released, then it's 10% off.

I think the crux of it comes down to how the UK is screwed over by Japan and America and ends up with everything late.

I don't see how Japan screwed us over this time. Everyone used different strategies and spoilt buyers for choice:

Japan: Expensive, nice version with English subtitles. Contained lots of extras that the other editions don't have and came out first (obviously). Flawless release which sold ludicrously well (its biggest problem was that it sold so well people couldn't obtain the LE of the first volume).
US: Cheaper, basic version which added an English dub. Came out a little later due to dub turnaround and to avoid cannibalising the version which actually makes the Japanese production side money.
UK: Scheduled based on the US version as it relied on using the same dub. The strategy was to price it a little higher instead of trying to compete with the US on price and losing. Extra physical bonus material straight from the Japanese LEs was included to improve the package. There were some delays and niggles IIRC.
Australia: Similar to the UK version but with a release format some fans saw as more favourable and the same region for the BD.

I'm sure Japan would have let the US version come out at any time if it matched the original price point :D

ISTR asking before release whether the local versions would keep things like the Japanese product placement (missing from some of the promotional material and a key part of the series for me). When Kaze couldn't answer in time I just imported from Japan, especially as they had extras we would never get in the UK like drama CDs and the first volume sold out so quickly. I don't regret my decision, but I think the four different versions probably covered most scenarios so every fan could pick up a package that suited them. I don't know that the show sold all that well anywhere outside Japan, weirdly. It had such good hype when it was originally streaming.

(I'd be annoyed if foreign distributors started pressuring Japan to drop subtitles and region-free discs to artificially improve local sales so I want to add my comments whenever I see things which could lead down that line of thought.)

Those were the French BEEZ Entertainment Releases, so it's not really a surprise that they would include the English Audio & Subtitle track as the UK BEEZ Entertainment release even featured French (sometimes even German) audio tracks.

It's basically a way of cutting costs down (bit like how KAZE does things) - author one disc but change the packaging (Age Ratings, Language) depending on the location.

For instance most BBEZ Entertainment releases which were released in France also have English Audio / Subtitle options, such as The Girl who lept through space (which is a subtitle only release).

Some KAZE release also have English Audio & Subtitle options, for instance Bleach Movies 1 to 3 were 'exactly' the same as the UK releases, it's just the outer packaging was in French.

Ryuuko's paper knife is getting a re-release. It's up for pre-order.

Got this and Nui's on pre-order.

Also the Kill la Kill settings art book I posted pictures of in the "what you received photo edition thread" is getting a re-release. Art Book

At this months London MCM Expo you can get a Blue Exorcist oyster card holder with Blue Exorcist the movie. More info and picture here.

And after a fair few days of silence about the KickStarter:
Project Update #8: It's Been A While - Let's Talk Goodies

33058a3de3808ab44ee0591d018ab9c5_large.jpg

Hello again everyone! I know it's been a while and you all thought we were M.I.A but truth is, we've been beavering away trying to lock down some interesting news and updates for you guys. I didn't want to spam you all with updates with little-to-no updating going on, so we held off for a few days. So, seeing as I am posting an update, this must mean I have some news, right? Yep! That's right! Hold on to your hats, because it's a goodun!

Right, a while ago we discussed the idea of a merch tier but it quickly became clear that you'd all rather have add-ons to give you all a bit of flexibility. If we were to add another tier, you all suggested, it'd be great to have a tier that added something really unique: like a really great, quality print for example.

As I mentioned above, we've been pitching these ideas in to the licensor in Japan (back from Golden Week!) and I'm happy to announce we've got approval on some add-ons while we're working on approvals for others! So, what in blazes does this mean?

The mug: The limited edition Kickstarter-only Patema Inverted branded mug will be available as an add-on for fans of the film! We're submitting designs for approval and should hopefully have some final news and some pretty pictures for you tomorrow. So, back to regular updates for y'all!

Add-on price for a mug: £15

Art prints: We've has some positive reaction to the proposal we put forward to the licensor - a high quality A4 giclée print from the film! We're talking a 230gsm fine art print here people! We're still waiting on the final OK on this (really, we're talking approvals and costs) but we should hopefully have it soon enough!

Add-on price for the print: £20

PLEASE NOTE: These merch add-ons however, are UK only I'm afraid. This is due to licensing restrictions that we must abide by. So, if you're interested in the above, please note we will only ship these within the UK. Sorry folks, but this one is out of our hands...

Onwards to the next stretch goal! On that point, we've had a few people ask what will happen if we don't get the rights to the OST. Fear not, dear backers, for we have a pretty sweet contingency lined up in that case of an on-disc variety...

I guess that's it for now! We're still working on a couple other things we're excited to add to this Kickstarter campaign but, sadly, we can't share until we know for sure so keep the faith everyone! We're working on delivering even more bang for your buck here :)

Also, the FAQ has been updated with 2 interesting pieces for non-UK backers:
> Why can't you ship the merchandise to licensed territories?

This is because of the very limited nature of the merchandising agreement for the Kickstarter with the committee. We made a slip in our understanding of this and are very sorry for any initial confusion caused!

Any of the homevideo product will be treated as a pre-order though and can be managed via the Kickstarter for the relevant territories.

> You say limited territories for certain rewards above...? What do you mean?

As per our agreement with the licensor - we have permission to ship only the regular, collector's and Ultimate edition products to:
- The UK
- Ireland
- France
- Netherlands
- Switzerland
- Belgium

ALL PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE UK AND FRANCE WILL BE FULFILLED BY THE ALL THE ANIME STORE AS A PRE-ORDER.

Unfortunately we cannot ship the following items to these territories or anywhere else:
- Postcard
- Digital tier
- Quad tier

LOL. How on earth did quality control miss that.
Poor video, god awful dubs and now missing subtitles? Sometimes I wonder if Sentai even know what quality control is.
Either way it's pretty hilarious that this has surfaced, and hopefully it'll be the thing to give them a good kick up the ass when it comes to QC.

And Americans don't understand the meaning of having a big read zero scrawled on their exam sheet?
I think the more important edit to that particular frame was changing the ticks to crosses - in Japan you get a circle for a correct answer and a tick or cross for a wrong answer, which would be confusing for western children watching (that's why in Japanese Playstation games the Circle button is OK and the cross is cancel)

In addition, BEEZ discs were duplicated on the continent and shipped over (and warehoused by Sony DADC..).
