Please please PLEASE, let Railgun S be region B compatible, PLEASE!
It's DVD only which is a joke. Personally I'm wondering where the hell Index II is, considering it aired in 2010 compared to Railgun S in 2013.
I hope someone in the UK will license the franchise, (like I dunno, Anime Limited) and actually give it a good release on BD.

DVD only? Really? :| With all the visual effects the show has (Misaka's electricity, for instance), it would be a treat to watch in BD. And yeah, I totally agree with you on Index II as well.

I did ask Tony from MVM about Index/Railgun at MCM London back in May last year and he said something on the lines of it being "on the back burner".

Personally the Index/Railgun should belong to Anime Limited, it would fit very nice with their catalog of titles. I don't hate Manga or MVM but those two will no doubt give it a 'cheap'* release like any other.

*By that I mean barebones or most likely not going to get the Premium treatment.

Outside the argument, the Shana Season 2 and Shiki SAVE looks nice.

That is possibly the most bizarre territory list I've seen from CR. I wonder who's sitting on the UK streaming rights as neither Wakanim nor Animax have announced it...
FUNimation most likely.

I'm pretty sure I saw confirmation that FUNi had it recently.
Railgun S was lucky enough to come after the Geneon Universal kerfuffle, unlike Index II. New and shiny gets priority over old and delayed.

I bought the first Japanese <strike>DVD</strike> BD and it looked nice, although it was apparently produced at a resolution between SD and HD, like FMA:B.

Are you seriously telling me that you'd want a premium treatment for a series that butchers the source material? Railgun and Railgun II deserve nothing more than a bare bones release.

By premium I mean the standard AL packaging as a complete set or with an artbox to fit both parts, going all Aniplex would be insanity.

MangaUK won't touch Index/Railgun due to Geneon becoming Geneon Universal and the conditions needed to license things from them, iirc.

That only applies to Index, Index II and Railgun. Endymion and Railgun S were animated after JC Staff finally switched to HD, so they are 1600x900.
There is actually a Japanese site which has someone calculating the resolution of TV anime. Clearly someone with too much time >_>

I've actually read a few of the Index novels after watching most of the available series and I feel that "Butchers" is a bit harsh. Yes they skip/condense/cut out stuff (and characters in the case of the Angel Fall arc) and the LNs are better, but the anime adaptation isn't that bad.

Anyway, I'm glad I asked Andrew about the franchise on Twitter and I'd absolutely love for him to bring it over.

I think it comes down to relations between parent companies.

From what I've heard, it's that Geneon Universal's terms for licensing require a little too much in the way of business information from the companies they deal with. It's worth mentioning that when Manga licensed Hellsing Ultimate, and the Hellsing Series, and when MVM licensed Shana Season 2, they did so from Funimation (and I think Madman Ent for Hellsing TV), not from Geneon Universal.

What would be so offensive in their business portfolio to anyone that Manga would leave a megahit like that flapping in the wind?

If that's "Buchering" and Index/II wasn't then I'll take butchered, ta.

Butchered is one thing, many a show could do with a good buchering (Looking at YOU SAO and your stupid second arc, you're next Digimon 02), but strict aherance to the source material is another and if that's what Index was then that would explain so much.

I don't believe that to be the case, since Shana S2 had the Geneon Universal logo on the case and no FUNimation logo (which is present on Kiddy Grade, Chobits and Fruits Basket). The Shana videos on FUNimation's YouTube are also all locked to "CA,US".

--edit--

I also suspect that Gonzo may hold the UK rights for Hellsing TV, like they do for a lot of the series they animated. I only have the ADV release, don't have it to hand right now and can't find photos of the backs of either UK version online, but both ADV and Manga's releases have the Gonzo logo on the front. FUNi's release has no Gonzo logo on it anywhere, and has Geneon Universal's on all three sides.

Funimation's SAVE release for Shangri-La will be getting a rather interesting treatment, according to RRAC:
Just a quick note - we just got in the new S.A.V.E. version of Shangri-La this morning (see Hot Off the Truck below). If you notice, our picture of it on the store is the same as the one for the old LE box, and that's not a mistake. I suppose Funimation must of either of had a crap load of the old two/half versions left in the warehouse, or else a big mega retailer like the Zon must have returned a truckload of unsold copies, because the new S.A.V.E. is (at least for now) just the old 2 part version (LE and part #2) slammed together with a S.A.V.E sticker on it. So now you can buy the old version as a SAVE edition for basically $15 bucks. Wow.

In other words, you're buying an LE release for £10. I wouldn't mind buying it (£9.91 via UP1 USA exc. P&P)

I guess that would be cheaper than the MVM release, although the discs will have the same NTSC transfer.

Pity Shangri-La was DVD only. I'd have been all over that had it been a combi-pack.

Going by the image in this listing it might be the same deal with the forthcoming S.A.V.E. re-release of Shiki.

That's true, the Shana Season 2 set (and presumably Season 3 in the Autumn) will also be getting the same treatment.

Looks like Paterma Inverted will be getting the Ultimate Edition treatment (the turn your world upside down must surely be the give away)
