Thought I'd quote the MVM website's message on the matter to comment on it. :3 Saves space opposed to quotes in quotes.

Girls Und Panzer WILL be on Blu Ray... and that's not all.
We're happy to tell Girls und Panzer fans that we've secured the license on Blu Ray and will be releasing the series in the much coveted HD format.

On top of this, we can also confirm that both From the New World and Accel World will also be released on Blu Ray, with more to follow.
This is thanks to a new deal we've struck with our supplier that makes it cheaper for us to support the format, and therefore we can release more titles this way going forward.

Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we update our release schedule :)

Awesome news! From the New World is certainly going to be a series worth getting on BD

I think it was beyond obvious that Kill la Kill was going to be released in multiple parts - no new anime that's more than a single cour has had its entirety released at once that I recall other than Lucky Star (and how long ago was that?). Knowing Aniplex though, they will probably split Kill la Kill into four DVD/BD volumes.

I could just about stomach that if it meant for the disc release, especially on blu ray, better video & sound quality. But some how I have a doubt it is going to work out like this & this smacks more like an attempt to gouge the fans by you know who.

If you're refering to AoA here I do have to disagree with all the comments about Price Gouging. AniplexUSA have clearly found a model which works for them. They offer artbooks, soundtracks, really nice artboxes and the best quality Video/Audio they possibly can by using the Japanese BD masters - and they price accordingly. They've also shown that they can get releases out much faster by pricing and marketing this way - I'll use Sword Art Online as an example. The entire series (4 Boxsets) were available just under 5 months after the release of the last JP Volume - and that's with on disc extras and nothing like locked subtitles crippling the release.

Kill La Kill won't see it's last BD volume released until late September this year. If Aniplex release KlK the same way as SAO we could see the whole series available Stateside in some top quality sets by the end of 2014/Q1 2015.

Not seen an AoA release myself, but I agree what they put out looks nice. Don't get me wrong, what you say about them finding something that works which is fair enough and their Kill la Kill release I may consider due to it being Kill la Kill. I do still have my grips with them though, mainly...

1: They call them limited edition but clearly they are not. If they was then they wouldn't stay in print as long as they do. Secondly, if they are truly limited editions, then where is the standard edition Blu-ray? Funimation do a standard to go alongside the limited, so why can't they. Not so bad for us as we can buy the UK or AU release, but what about US fans that want the series but would rather pay less and not have all the extras.

2: The price still seems high to me. Take Psycho Pass for example. Complete series, art box, sound track plus 4 other physical extras, cost around £70-80. An Aniplex release that comes with a lot less is a lot more.

I really hope Kill la Kill's English audio is lossless though. On the subject of Aniplex, anyone who has the Blue Exorcist movie, do you have a BDinfo scan of the main title set?

Aniplex of America did release standard editions of Puella Magi Madoka Magica on blu-ray, but with Sword Art Online I think it was Limited Edition blu-ray or barebones DVD? Also, their Madoka volume 2 LE only sold out last month, meaning it was on the market for quite some time.

I assume that the Madoka Magica standard BDs sold terribly, hence the lack of a standard option for SAO. I'm sure it will appear later on once the LE has sold out completely. Japanese discs sometimes stagger LEs/REs to avoid fragmenting the market too so it's obviously something companies are still actively researching (made more complicated by the need to keep supporting DVD).

I have it but can't run BDinfo so I doubt any information I'd pull off would be in the format you want; what do you need to know?

I know the two 5.1 tracks are DTS 1509 kbps, the Japanese LPCM is 2250kbps. So I was looking for the discs size and the actual video bitrate. Hard to tell with players as the bitrate goes up and down, but bdinfo lets you know what it's encode at. I believe there is a commentary track as well, think it's also DTS but don't know the bitrate.

I started running it but I have a slow BD drive. May have to do it tommorow.
Disc is 33.6gb. Commentary Tracks are 256kbps.

Edit: BDinfo here. All of Aniplex's releases are this sort of quality.
The BD limit (Combined 48mbps) looks to be the reason why F/Z and SAO had lossy Audio, especially F/Z as the video is pretty much at a constant 40mbps or higher.

A 35th anniversary website for the Mobile Suit Gundam series has launched today: http://www.gundam35th.net

With it, some form of stream announcement for March 20th, 2014 @ 5PM.

What could this mean?

In an article from Crunchyroll they said: "What can you expect for this March 20 announcement? The long-awaited Gundam: The Origin anime series? A new OVA series following the very successful Gundam Unicorn, such as Hathaway's Flash or Crossbone Gundam? Yoshiyuki Tomino's new anime (G-Reko or collaboration project with Legacy Effects)? Bandai confirmed back in July 2013 that Tomio's newest anime work will be released as a part of the 35th anniversary of the Gundam franchise in 2014 to 2015 and the anime adaptation of
Gundam: The Origin will be also released around the same time."

Regardless, it's clear to me, regardless if it ends up being some kind of anime announcement or not, mecha fans will be keeping a close eye on this one.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is pretty amazing, hope these titles sell well for MVM - the pessimist in me has his fingers crossed that they haven't overstretched on the BD side and end up regretting it later.

MVM seem to be putting a lot of faith in the Girls Und Panzer franchise. I hope it does well for them. I will be picking the series & OVA's up on BD, hope many others do to make this worthwhile for them. They need to get on the MangaUK/Anime LTD advertising bandwagon.

Now available on Amazon UK (my bad Elaniel, I'll just quote your post here):

While I normally dislike the idea of remakes of older series, Gundam: The Origin is one I think could really work well. The manga is excellent and the original MS Gundam series definitely had some flaws, hence Tomino's reorganising of it into three movies at a later date to remove mainly elements he felt were too "super robot". If they stick to Yas' aesthetic and character designs I don't think they can go far wrong with this - The Zeta Gundam: A New Translation movies proved you can make those older designs work great with modern animation. Probably Unicorn does as well, but I haven't watched that yet because I refuse to pay those BD prices for single OVAs.

I just hope somebody is able to pick up the Gundam licence in the West again soon. It's been far too long and it's an important franchise that deserves the BD treatment.
