The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Not directly anime related but for anyone who's backed a Kickstarter, I've received an email saying it's been hacked and to go change my password

AL expanding in to France? I hope they don't stretch themselves to thin/take on too much, would hate to see a company like AL try to take on far too much and then crash and burn because of it. Fingers crossed if they do expand that it's at the right pace and with the right titles, we need them in the UK market.
As long as part of that expansiion is the on going efforts to make Wakanim not awful then sure.

Wakanim is a good site, yes there aren't many shows on there but at least the shows do have are mostly good, the site is well presented and the video quality is good even on the free streaming, better to my mind than CR's free streaming.
I was refering to the franglish and abysmal error handling, amongst other things.

Those Nekomogatari releases look sweet, but after being burned by Aniplex's Bakemono LE and its blinking subtitles I ain't sure I wanna go there. Have they managed to sort that out for newer releases? (As an aside, Hanabee managed to subtitle Nisemonogatari without any blinking at all. Price = quality indeed.)

Whilst I'm happy more Monogatari is finally being released, I can't help but be majorly disappointed that there's once again no mention of the audio commentaries.
I could understand Nekomonogatari white not having them since it hasn't been that long since the Japanese release, but there's about a 16 month delay between the JP and US release of Black.
Either way I'm still 100% purchasing these sets when they're released.

Yes, original audio commentaries, either of the serious director/cast type or the in character type are by far my favourite kind of extra, so to not have them greatly saddens me. I'll pop a pre order in for them nether less as soon as I am able.

The loss of the commentaries for the later parts of the *monogatari series is annoying. For Nisemonogatari I have the imported BDs too (those CDs...) so it wasn't a problem. Now it's more that I've cooled off on the series a little so I don't mind losing the commentaries as much ^^;

I guess that there are a number of factors; as well as the reverse import issue, to give the commentaries a slick translation costs money and perhaps there aren't that many people who would avoid the release without them?

No idea on the blinking subtitles. They've been putting out most of the shows I want as DVD-only lately so I'm just happy to see another BD release from AoA that I can actually buy. T_T

Speaking of commentaries, I really do with Aniplex would have put the money forward to subtitle the commentary and special features on the import Madoka movie releases though.

Working on the language parts you're referring to there - it's something we noted and went through the whole site with corrections on so those should be filtering in now :).

Error handling is moving a bit better now and everyday we're working on that one - any useful feedback always welcomed too :).

Already there, just not yet publicly - we have the rights to some cool shows there such as Attack on Titan. Not really draining our efforts as I learned a lot from Beez / KAZE and we have a separate team working on the French market. Ensures focus of marketing, production and development are addressed.

Small teams of 3-4 per territory is smarter than 6-8 people in one territory with no real understanding of how others work.

Hope this puts minds at ease somewhat!

Best,

Andrew

Sony Universal have released it to Region B in Australia. EDIT Make sure you get the corrected version, the first release had out of sync subtitles.

They're doing the same for Black Lagoon and Roberta's Blood Trail in June if you don't want Khazi's release.

Wait, what? That's a rather fast turnaround for Funi isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it was delayed somewhere down the line.

That's actually a pretty neat plan you have there. I've no doubt that expanding into France is a smart move considering that the market for anime there is much bigger, but I suppose it also allows you to include ENG/FR audio/subs and do one release for two territories, kind of like how Kaze does it but not terrible on every single level.

Getting that. Glad to see it's also A/B like the first season.

Before I get too excited, are they releasing those on Blu-ray? If so, do you know if they will be basically the same as Funimations release just with their own logos and trailers or are they doing their own discs from scratch?

With Lain, and Shana, they took the Funi discs and redid the subtitles from scratch, hence the sync issues, but they are the Funi discs. I can only assume they'd do the same with Black Lagoon, so dual layer discs, hopefully unlocked subs, and the DVD extras.

Here's their Facebook post where they announce the Black Lagoon combo packs
