Oh nice! I should get round to finishing the first Mushishi series at some point. It's the one and only time that I have (and probably ever will) collected a series through singles.

Do you know where I can get volume 4 in PAL? I have sealed copies of volumes 2 & 3, and want it complete.... I hope Anime Limited can relicense it on blu ray and DVD as well as the second season.

A quick search of the interwebs seems to indicate that Volume 4 is going to be one of "those" volumes. The kind that nowhere seems to have in stock  I'm afraid your best bet would be to keep an eye on CeX and hope that someone trades in a copy. Alternatively, sell your remaining volumes and import the cheapo US boxset :p

If nothing but PAL will do, there is the more expensive Australian DVD set

But I'd wait for it to get a Blu-ray release somewhere. It's had one in France...

Upscale mind

Bloody Disgusting have put up a trailer and an extended clip from the upcoming live action Kite movie. Samuel L. Jackson provides an intro too!

Always knew this would be low-budget...but it really does show in this footage. Might be worth a look as a curiosity piece.

It's great to see Mushi-shi get more content, but Funimation already put the show on SAVE so there's a chance it might not receive a release from them (but Ikki Tousen proved everyone wrong).

Unless a Blu-ray is announced, I'll pickup the cheap SAVE version sometime this year.

Uh. America, get some original ideas please.

I like Samuel L. Jackson, but he’s not Oburi. If I were to cast him, I would pick either Tom Hardy, Bryan Cranston or Christopher Walken, TBH. Also, its approach makes the characters look way comic book. Plus, Sawa looks absolutely ridiculous in this compared to the original design from the anime, who looked very normal, yet filled with a deep melancholic past. This looks like a reject from Sucker Punch.

I’m cautious about this one, might be okay, but is just gonna be another failed attempt at adapting anime into live action so they can actually be accepted, presumeably.

Whats next, live action Urotsukidoji? Now that I think about it, didn’t a live action Wicked City get made?

Heres hoping that the special and season 2 of Mushishi get licensed, and the original on blu ray (which for a upscale, doesn’t look to shabby, since the colour palette is very muted and subtle, compared to Samurai Champloo and FLCL, which suffer the leap to blu ray) to celebrate the 10th anniversary… has it been that long? ****, time goes fast.

For what it's worth, Callan McAuliffe is playing Oburi. I think Samuel L. Jackson is playing the non X-rated equivalent of Akai?

It's a shame the original director David R. Ellis died during pre-production. Kite from the director of Snakes on a Plane could have been interesting.

OH MY GOD.

Put Honneamise through BBFC again because the old Manga release voluntarily cut a scene and got a PG rating. http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/wings-honneamise-1994

@spongbros Not our license anymore. Someone else will have to sort this out.

@MangaUK My point was that you should _relicense_ it. After all, you said on your podcast that you'd like to see it out in the UK.

@spongbros Too late. Someone else has got it. >Jerome

Andrew I am watching you, give this the ultimate release than the barebones Maiden Japan. By barebones, I mean the extras in the old Manga release (i.e. pilot film and commentary) which was skipped in Bandai's and Maiden Japan's release.

I had the rather impressive Honneamise Blu-ray release of "Wings of Honneamise" but sold it, always regretted it, would love another nice edition of it, preferably from AL :)

I recently got that edition, love that both the Blu and the DVD are region free, love the box art, and i love the booklet it comes with, shame that it didn’t include the commentary or the deleted scene though from Manga’s old DVD, so I hope those include that. I’m in no rush, since I love the release I own, since I got a good deal on it for £24, but for people who wanted it for a long time in the UK uncut, now’s your chance. I hope they include some form of booklet like the Bandai Visual release.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJYOnAzA6_4 Heres a video where I unboxed the Honneamise release.

Andrew confirms they have all of the video extras for 009 Re:Cyborg from the Japanese release and are looking into getting the Prequel manga (because the rights belong to the original holder not Production IG).

BD surprises me a bit, presumably an upscale given the age and didn't it sell poorly years ago? Not that I'm not happy to see it re-released but it seems odd that they'd go for BD rather than DvD.

Like every JC Staff show until about mid 2013 it's upscaled from ~540p.
There's enough of an improvement on BD to make the investment worthwhile though.
I wouldn't consider releasing it on BD odd either. It appeals to people like me who wouldn't buy it otherwise, and you also have to consider that Sentai don't really need to do any extra work with this title. The Dub and Subtitles have already been created for it, so it's not like they have get people in to do those. Unfortunately from what I remember, the dub isn't that great for this, which is a massive shame as it's yet another title with Cristina Vee in the Dub yet I watched subbed which always seems to happen.

Out of the April releases I'm interested in ZnT, From the New World and Little Busters Collection 2 from Sentai.

Familiar of Zero is one of my all-time guilty pleasures. There just isn't any logical or empirical basis for me liking it as much as I do. So a(nother) chance at owning it legitimately is a chance I have no intention of squandering.
