Hiya, buddy. It's been a while!@Neil.T where you been hiding man? Glad to hear you're keeping well though.
Yeah, I'm good, thanks. How've you been yourself? What have I missed?

It has indeed! Life's busier than ever with work and family but very thankfully all very good. I see you're busy on your switch and whilst I keep buying games on that (usually indie ones during the sales) I don't often get to play them and more often just play the gacha stuff on my phone on the go heh. Nintendo and Sony shuttering their old console stores has resulted in me buying games more often on steam now, for whenever I eventually buy a steam deck - have you gotten yourself one of those?Hiya, buddy. It's been a while!

Glad to hear you're doing well, buddy! Sounds pretty hectic, though. Well done for hanging in there!Life's busier than ever with work and family but very thankfully all very good.
I haven't, no. No plans for one either. I'm honestly really happy with the Switch and am in no danger of running out of games to play anytime soon!Nintendo and Sony shuttering their old console stores has resulted in me buying games more often on steam now, for whenever I eventually buy a steam deck - have you gotten yourself one of those?
Hey, my man. How's it going?Hey, there's Neil.T, good to see you on here again, buddy!
Hey, my man. How's it going?
Yep, here I am. This thread was my first port of call for a little catching up!
The workings of this world continue to fascinate me: you put together an entire PC build from scratch, and I have no idea what a SATA cable even is or how to tell one end of a motherboard from the other!
Is that thing gonna be a bit of a beast when it's up and running? How are the specs?
Hope you enjoy your day off tomorrow, buddy.
I followed your link and, yup, I have absolutely no idea what the things are that I'm looking at!it sounds like you won't know half of what you are looking at anyway...
I didn't even know about this until the recent headlines on the remake, and RPGs are right up my street so I'll definitely add this one to my wishlist next.I've just recently started the Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I never played the GameCube original, so I'm finally getting to find out what all the fuss has been about all these years. Yeah, it's every bit as great as I've heard. I'm not usually much of an RPG player, but I'm absolutely loving it. Can't get enough of it right now.

You called that absolutely right, dude.
It's all Greek to me. You have my respect for knowing how to assemble all of that.
If you're already into RPGs, buddy, then I'd recommend The Thousand-Year Door even more. I was playing some more of it yesterday, and the storylines, combat system and exploration are all just soooo good.I didn't even know about this until the recent headlines on the remake, and RPGs are right up my street so I'll definitely add this one to my wishlist next.
Yeah, I can totally see your logic with Steam there. I've got my fingers tightly crossed that the current Switch architecture is gonna carry over onto the next Nintendo console. We already know it'll carry your Nintendo account over, but I really hope they'll also keep the current subscription system that gives access to the retro games libraries. That's my biggest hope for it.I tend to buy my digital stuff on there now for posterity as a higher chance it won't be shut down sometime in the future
That's a big investment in time as well as funds, then. Wow.I spent hours and hours watching YouTube videos on all kinds of stuff hardware related and Windows 11 related and tips and tweaks and such, before even attempting this PC Build
Personally I’d say that the best place for game preservation is GOG.com as they mandate DRM free and you can freely make personal backups of any game you buy there without any obstruction or consequences, so even if it did get shut down you can still play the games you bought as long as you have them downloaded and backed up, it’s managed by the guys who made The Witcher games and is IMO the best place for game preservation, the downside is that not many games are released there, due in part to the fact that publishers don’t want to remove DRM but the games that are released there can be backed up, and played for as long as you have a compatible computer and OS to play it on.I tend to buy my digital stuff on there now for posterity as a higher chance it won't be shut down sometime in the future and I may still be able to download the games I bought decades ago and never got to play at the time heh.
Ah that is good to know and I do have a mini library on there just from humble bundles and freebies off of Amazon's prime games. But again, don't know if I'll ever get to play even 10% of all these libraries across various websites. I tell my brother off as he is forever downloading and backing up games but doesn't actually play any these days!Personally I’d say that the best place for game preservation is GOG.com as they mandate DRM free and you can freely make personal backups of any game you buy there without any obstruction or consequences
At a certain point, organising your collection becomes the most time-consuming game.Ah that is good to know and I do have a mini library on there just from humble bundles and freebies off of Amazon's prime games. Lol, worst thing for me is I have 7 shelf units full of anime, and I keep them sorted by distributor, and then in alphabetical order. Adding new Blu-rays to the shelves alphabetically becomes a nightmare of shuffling cases from one shelf down to the next to make room for the new titles, starting from the bottom shelf. I have to count how many new releases I am adding to a shelf unit, then move that amount of releases down from the next-to-bottom shelf to the bottom shelf, and add in the new titles in reverse-alphabetical order as I work my way up to the top shelf.
TBH I don’t even bother with the alphabetical order thing, with regards to the space issue I actually came up with the idea of buying a disk bag from Amazon and getting rid of the boxes for shows or films that I might still want to watch but don’t want them taking up space, including some I haven’t seen yet, in which case, in case they end up being surprise classics later on, I keep the sleeves in a pouch so that I can put them back in a box later on if needed, I managed to clear quite a bit of space that way.I don't have them split by distributor but I'm in the same boat with having to move them every time I get new titles as I have them in alphabetical order as well.
I'm really running of space now so I may do another little purge or at the very least downgrade some CE to standard editions as I do have titles I feel I really don't need a CE for and is taking up extra space.
I would also like to get a new shelving unit sometime this year but regardless I do want to sell some titles and really focus on my favourites more. I want to start saving for other things like travelling and doing up the house.
That sounds absurd!I'd probably be fine as I've family in Belfast, though it would technically be considered smuggling if I got them to resend it to me. Perfectly legal for me to go up and collect it. Stupid Brexit.
It's legal to get sent or to bring items into Ireland purchased in Northern Ireland without declaring them, it's only considered smuggling if you get something purchased from the mainland reshipped via Northern Ireland and not declaring it with customs. Was going to reply normally, but probably best to put it here:
That sounds absurd!
I'm going to NI myself next year, but want to visit Newgrange whilst there as when we went to the Republic (5 years ago, sheesh) we stayed in the South West.
What could I bring we me that's enough to count as smuggling, but small enough to get away with? Would be cool to be breaking the dumb rules in a small way!
Just watch out for swans. They'll peck your kneecaps off and steal your wallet.View attachment 34585
Got some duck feed so I can feed the ducks when I go for walks to my local country park.
Luckily there has never been swans there (they go to the boating lake in town) but we do get Canadian geese.Just watch out for swans. They'll peck your kneecaps off and steal your wallet.
