The General Conversation Area

i can only hope, although it could be funny how it turns out if i get in, during the three month probabation period they actually test you to see if your worth training to become a manager or if i show potential to move up to the big HQ

Gdgd :)

Although i'll say one thing....if their HQ is anything like the NHS HQ's......it'll be a big brown building with Aircon that doesn't work. stains un the walls and on the carpets. bluetac on the ceiling and lighting fixtures that are hanging off the ceiling when their not supposed to. fire extinguishers or black masking tape keeping doors open on the floors. but on the outside its got a perfect lobby, reception desk and 2 types of doors to go through to get to the reception desk. each opened by electronic cards that are wireless, hence opening the doors before you. and closing them after you.

looks really upto date and wonderful. then you get past the ground floor and realise the lifts break on a weekly basis. the bannister up the stairs shakes and you thank god that the stairs are made of marble. not abit of shipwreck and rope

I see Tachi is giving you things to look forward to Black. lol

My Building is fine, it's the office rules that get me down. No coffee at your desk else you stain the carpet... load of arse if you ask me. ¬_¬

We are allowed the coffee's and tea at our desks.....I.T drew the line when i was using my base unit as a drinks holder :p

i'm debating whether to head to mcdonalds and get another 2 meals. i mean....i struggled to finish them yesterday....and today i'm starving, my stomach has been having an in depth convo with me since 10.

I was just kidding with you about half of that anyway black....its not great but its not unbearable. theres a few stains on the carpet and the decor could do with a lick of paint, the lifts breaking periodically and the bannister being a hazard, its not too bad :)

Voddas, how did the radio show go? can we listen in online yet?

just dealt with a flury of people.....not to get another type of flury :p

From my experience interviews are a matter of confidence.
Be yourself, but prepare for it. Study the company, the technical aspects of the job you're interviewing for, show some interest in people and don't sweat if you can't answer a technical question.

When I used to interview people, we used some really difficult questions just to have a justification for HR in case we feel the person wouldn't click.

There are loads of questions that are common, such as "How do you see yourself in 5 years?" that are also used to separate. If a person we liked anwers all the questions, well then its a bonus.

Chaos i've already done that part, as i say, the call now would mean they want to see what i would do in a real life excerise, i get through that and do a good job then i'm all clear, the interview was quite nice mind, nice and casual

Being in IT myself that line makes me twitch.
Well, I had a box of fosters under my desk and a coworker had a Simpsons mini fridge under his desk so he could enjoy his pepsi max.

Being a senior technician it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
if it was an average person i could see what you mean. but for me. there's little to no chance of a spill.

I deal with kids in primary schools...I am very wary of liquids near my IT equipment.....especially the server cupboard.

Sorry, I disappeared to get things sorted then. :p

@Tachi - Yep, and tell me about it... Apparently, to get a job up here, you have to send out 40 applications at a time... WTF? I can only manage a quarter of that at the best of times... (I look at lots, but it's "exp essential.") I'm not just looking for admin/secretary work either, I'm looking at stuff any average joe can do.

@Chaos - Graduated from uni in July, so I'm looking for full time work to get me some money. I cant to anything with my artwork unless I have a studio except research and draw. I dont think my neighbours would appreciate smoke from my kilm going onto their clothes etc.

It's the sh**s atm, but all we can do is strive on (which is something my dad/his fiance aren't getting, with their constant nagging and "well, *whats-their-names* got this and that...") ARGH!!!!!

Yeah i see where your coming from. the last thing you need is kids under 10y/o running around with drinks near any sort of equipment.
Are you the schools maintanence techy then?

Well, Mr Chom, it's also the fact that I'm guessing the IT stuff is school property. If someone spilt anything and messed up the equipment, your responsible/liable, aren't ya?

I'd understand that with other people's equipment, I would put my soft drink or what-not near them, especially if it's gonna cost big to replace etc.

Not sure this will help you at all, but can you do graphical design work?

If you can there are a bunch of websites where you can find small freelance work, such as rent-a-coder (this one is specifically for IT, but you should be able to find webdesign there).

You will get paid peanuts, BUT you will get the so called experience.

Just remember not to send any final version of a work to anyone you meet there or else you never get paid =)

Another thing you can do is volunteer work. It is a way to get the so called experience as well.

Aye - I would do voluntary work if it was in the admin/clerk/secretarial business, but I dont seem to find these things.

I've no exp in graphic design myself, so I dont think I'd be illegable for that freelance work. Thanks for trying though.
