Aye - I would do voluntary work if it was in the admin/clerk/secretarial business, but I dont seem to find these things.

I've no exp in graphic design myself, so I dont think I'd be illegable for that freelance work. Thanks for trying though.

If it helps.....Go to your local hospital and ask if they have a Staff bank.
they should have....especially if your local hospital trust is a foundation trust (they are free stand from the government in a way) its hard to explain......anyway they should have a staff bank or something similar to that. Now if you do that and get hold of a number then there's a few basic questions you'll be asked before they even send the apps form out.
if its anything like ours they'll have a PCT admin side that you'll become rostered to. and providing you have proof that you can use a computer then within 2 months (roughly) you could be working in a receptionist job, or an admin sector higher up the chain.

If i can then i'll try to help you out. infact give me a short while and i'll have a look on the trust today for any placements in Lancs

There you go Chaz :)

Someone used their time in AUKN in their resume and also asked me for employer references.

I do some voluntary work for a charity called http://www.brazilink.org and http://uk.camfed.org/ I'll check if there is something you could do.

Isn't there red cross, greepeace or anything like that in Manchester as well? Even Oxfam, these people are always looking for people. You cna give them a try as well.

Once you get the experience you need, I'm sure you can find something good for you.

@tachi - Hehe, funny you should add the website to the convo, I've been filling out places I've found there. :p

I'll have a go at this "staff bank" you've mentioned too.
I've got an issue with the application form though: When you go to "Employment history" do you know what the 'Grade' is? I have no idea what a grade is relating to work.

@chaos - Sounds kool. I dont think I'll be able to get out to manchester though for this experience though, needs to be somewhat around blackpool/preston area really. Sounds like another thing to look into though.

Grade? Guess Lancs still running on the old whitley scales.
Right....the grade is a ranking order basically. An authority ranking if you will.

Our trust works on bandings instead of grades. but whichever you come across its basically the same thing. if you haven't worked for a trust before then leave that blank (unless ofcourse your being asked to fill out details about which job your applying for) in which case, cross referrence with the website.

Any other things you need help with?

That's it for that, ta. (Since I've always been 'bottom rung' in any corporate ladder...)

Shoot - I didn't realise how easy it is to apply for work on Jobs Today website... lol! If I knew that before, it would make some of my job hunting easier! XD

oh before i forget:

Bandings start at band 2. then progress 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and finally 8.
Grades are measured in: A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H.
within each banding is a incremental point. which each year that you work (the date that you started to be exact) the scale will rise by one. there's about 10 points in each banding. when you reach the top of a scale you don't change banding. bandings are different for the different jobs. so to progress through this type of work....you wait for someone above your banding to die, or you change jobs.

Or, we could have a nicer spin to that and say "they've moved on..." :p

Are you guys ok in helping me with this? ATM I'm not working, so I dont want you guys to get in trouble for my benefit.
Otherwise, I'm grateful for the help :)

lol Well me personally, i couldn't be done by HR for aiding another trust :p i'm helping you understand more about the NHS and how it runs. and hopefully in turn the NHS will have another person on the books. so all in all its no problem :)

@ Black.......you never asked lol. check that website yourself. just check your local area for admin work

Gomen.... I'm not trying to lower your confidence.
Alright then! I must help you out with the Dance of Joy! (dances like Cpt Ginyu).

I never thought I'd get this call from a curator, but I did. So dont give up yet. :)

I'm back (kinda). Just had a long lunch coz work is pritty busy. Don't be suprised if I'm slow in replying or if I just randomy disapear. o_O

Voddas, how did the radio show go? can we listen in online yet?
Going on the internet is in the pipeline but not a reality yet. We are re-opening the stating in September. It's open now like but it's being liquidated and re-created in the coming months. So it will never actually close but rather the building around it will change along with uptodate website and events. It's been in the plan for a long time but it's fianlly going threw. We've only got like 10k left in the budget but we're almost there.

It's all quite exciting! XD

I'll just chip in here and mention that my current job was based on the strength of two things...

1. My work as a judge and local tournament operator for WoW TCG
2. The fact I was a treasurer of Aberystwyth Animesoc from 2004-2007

I put both of them on my CV, explained how they were "customer facing", "required inter-personal skills" and for being treasurer required trustworthiness.

I didn't know at the time that they'd gotten me the job.....and I do still find it slightly bizarre.

Oh, my apologies. For some reason I was sure you lived in Manchester. Sorry about that. but hopefully, the same applies for Blackpool. There must be a charity in there, isn't it? =)

why didn't anyone tell me this stuff sooner?
Which stuff? this we are telling Chaz? Because we like Chaz more than we like you ;)

Seriously now, It never really occurred to me before. Only when Chaz mentioned "exp required" is that all of these came to my mind.

The judge tells them you can observe data and make a choice. It can also show you have a sense of authority (even if it isn't sentencing to jail kind of stuff).
The operator shows a good organisation aspect, being able to sort things out before an event or allowing the process of what you're doing to carry on it's flow. May also include the trait of initiative on on-the-spot decision making.
Finally, being a treasurer would indeed allow trust and experience in handling money to be a major factor for any application related to that line of work (banks, retail, currency exchange etc.)
And you've got customer awareness down.

That's how people I think in the chairs will look and see things as.

Edit: Yay! For once, a decent Lancashire Evening Post with a few jobs I'm interested in. :D Today is a good day for gathering job-related info!

So glad I have a job... the problem is, I hate it. Being a tax man ain't all that at all. TT_TT

 tell me about it. everytime i have more than 2 days off i dread coming back to work. and seeing you lot without jobs but all the time in the world, and my mates are all out of education right now.....its the worst time to have a job believe me.

If it wasn't for the bills.....i wouldn't have a job for a year, i'd go live on chaos's couch.

Trust me... A) I dont fit in any of those now (no lessons to attend, no shifts to truely work with.) B) You'll regret having lots of free time and nothing to do with it. Even a trip to Hawaii only lasts so long.

I want to job to keep me busy and to get money to survive. I couldn't care less about expensive holidays and all that. (I'm needy, but I aint selfish and greedy). Otherwise, I feel like I'm living without purpose. *Sigh* The worst thing I'd ever want to be useless and taking up space.

*places hand on Chaz' head like a big brother would*

You have loads of time mate. Don't get stressed about stuff like that now. Your better living free now before the facts of life hold you down in a 9 till 5 job for years.
Wish I'd gone back packing... :3

Urgh, too late for that... in a short amount of time, me and Ryo will be on trail to look after ourselves, with a food bill, car fuel and what-else that we cant really afford... Teh! That's gonna be a fun experiment.

I'm still sticking to the desire to get myself sorted in life, sooner rather than later. Even with free time, I think I'll need it to be happy with the ecconomic situation.
