The General Conversation Area

Well, I'm getting back into anime slowly these days and whilst I remain jobless at present (and completely potless as a result), as soon as I get some money I will intend to buy anime on DVD as that it preferrable to me over digital downloads/streaming/whatever the kids do these days. ^^
I buy if I really like something or can't find it on a legal streaming site. If you want to try streaming most sites have free shows (with ads) or offer free trails. Definitely worth a shot if you're short of cash.

Also Crunchyroll let premium members give out 48 hour codes. There is a thread on here where people post them.

Yeah, I think I've actually used some sites in the past where you can watch cartoons/anime for free; I can't remember the names (I think one was called ********?). They usually have ads or the endings cut off, but as you say it's a good option if you want to see something and you can't go out and buy stuff! I do watch things on YT as well, though sometimes you are restricted by postage stamp screens or the sound being altered due to copyright.

Otherwise I'm just old fashioned at heart; I do like having a tangible object to hold, but I love DVD's for the cover art too, as well as additional features!

Just a heads up – I’ve removed your reference to a pirate site, as they’re not allowed here. Thanks!

Yeah, best to snaffle a free pass for Crunchyroll instead. That's legit and pays back into the industry. :)

To be honest It's why I've just stuck with YT for watching clips and whatnot because I'm non the wiser as to what's legitimate and what's just plain dodgy. As someone with principles, I'm very "by the book" for what it's worth; I just like to do things the right way. I think it's why I annoy so many road users...:p

It's good to know there are legal ways of watching stuff though!

There is also a thread on Crunchyroll US and Crunchyroll Germany for those codes. Actually, I tend to stalk them from time to time too. It's kinda fun to snatch them, while they are hot, sometimes they are gone in a matter of 19 seconds and sometimes they'd stay for even twenty hours. (I am watching Boruto that way, it's not getting a BD release even in Japan, so waiting for Home Video releases will probably get me less quality in that case. =/) Still reluctant myself to get a subscription. Not because I couldn't afford it, but if I start it, knowing myself, I'll definitely never get to my to watch home video pile anymore. (And those usually have way better production quality and corrections compared to the often only half finished streaming versions.)

But you can watch a lot of stuff even without premium, so there is no reason to avoid it.

Yeah it is pretty loud for a membrane keyboard. Have you tried specifically looking for quiet keyboards?
I've spent 2 hours researching keyboards and touring through electronics shops again today. Those which are quitest and have the best touch feel, while also flat and easy to clean are like all mac keyboard lookalikes. So, while ergnomic and good looking they all have shared keys for the multimedia and F keys, which is just... x.x In the shop those were the three most expensive keybords on display. (86-136-199€)
The one with the next best layout after my current one had about the worst key hardness. It happened it was the second cheapest they had on display (14€).
And I realized that Logitech K780 also lacks a direct page down key.
And I found out, that trying it in shops for sound is most often pretty useless when they are having speackers or HiFis on right next to it. It felt so weird to always wait until the sound had some pause to start hitting keys like mad. @_@

Yup, sorry! You quoted the one word I removed, and your post didn’t really work without it. Apologies!

No probs

You can grab yourself a free 48-hr Crunchyroll pass from the thread @D1tchd1gger mentioned:
https://forums.animeuknews.net/threads/get-your-crunchyroll-48-hour-guest-passes-here.14961/

There are also some shows on YouTube legally. Crunchyroll for instance has some first episodes from the current season. There are others that people may know of.

There are illegal versions as well so be careful.

Many thanks for your insight (and to @Neil.T for the link). It's good to know, especially as I don't have funds right now. But I'd be like you to be fair; even if I have the money I'm not bothered about getting premium subscriptions to streaming sites - I still like to have DVD's to pick off the shelf.

I'll have a look into it sometime for sure. In recent months I've found it hard to find the motivation to really do anything due to circumstances but it seems worth looking into if it means I can properly watch things and do it legally!

Many thanks for the advice. Oh I'm always mindful of where I tread to be fair...

I have to say though, it's not because I don't think its not worth it. It more like my shopping habits and the amounts that come with it are a bit.... extreme? And I have space problems, so I really need to get those down. I'm just trying to create some artificial force of circumstances there, which probably is a bit... questionable.
Through I do have a shared netflix subscription. (Mostly because of Violet Evergarden and me wating to catch up with Star Trek TOS.) Well, I don't actually pay for it, but the one who does gets his share of Anime an Manga through me and discounts, so it kind of evens out. I don't think I should start about mentioning how bit the ptw on that one already is... The result so far is, just about everything is stalled, because I totally can't decide where to start!

First World Problems Premium Edition.

@~AyaMachi~: So, I'm curious, how did you discover AUKN? (I spectated from the sidelines for three months before taking the plunge and joining. That was back in Nov 2016.)

I literally just Googled "anime forums" in a desperate bid to join a community of like-minded people. I'd joined a furry forum months before (I don't identify as such but as the friendless billy no-mates that I was I thought I'd meet some friendly folk in the community). Whilst I did meet some nice people there were also some very toxic individuals who sadly, ruined any connections I had made with them - I have a sense of humour as much as the next person but anyone who insists on making hateful and derogatory comments is someone who I would rather not associate with. I left and at that juncture I had also left my job, lost my cat and felt lower than ever, so I just wanted to try to connect with people again. I've lost friends over the years and whilst my situation as it stands is difficult (I didn't get that job by the way), I can at least make the small change in trying to interact with people and lift my spirits somewhat! ^^

And the rest as they say is history!
