I hope there are some good announcements this year. I think it was last year when TGS was so flaccid that the gaming sites I read didn't bother covering it, and I only found out what was announced on Anime News Network, of all places.

Well this is a surprise; we're getting two console Atelier games in 2025. Aside from the previously announced Yumia, there's also:

While Atelier Yumia looks more mainstream, Resleriana is giving off a more traditional cozy Atelier atmosphere. It's a sequel to the mobile game from last year, but is confirmed to be a console and PC offline game.

Gust have generally been putting out one game in this series per year, so my guess is that Yumia was originally intended to release in 2024 and was delayed before being revealed to the public.

Aside from this it's been a weak TGS in terms of new game announcements. I guess publishers don't trust it to have the marketing reach it once had.

Two games I have pre-ordered (I'm sure some others here do too) which I am quite looking forward to, seem to be reviewing very well with the critics. Of course, critic reviews aren't the be-all and end-all, but they are positive signs.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is currently sitting at a 94 on Metacritic and a 91 on OpenCritic

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero is sitting at 84 on Metacritic and OpenCritic at this time, which is positive too.

Glad I preordered Metaphor, fingers crossed the positive reviews counteract Microsofts absolutely pisspoor marketing campaign and it actually sells well 🤦‍♂️

Has anyone else seen that Limited Run Games announced they are releasing the first seven Yakuza games in a standard and premium edition a few days ago?

Not sure what I think of these. I'm sure they'll look nice aesthetically on a shelf, but I think they are a symptom of how silly physical media is getting in my view.

Seven games for $525 if you want to get the premium editions (imo, the only worthwhile thing in there is the soundtrack, the rest is just pure tat). These games are regularly £4 each on the PS Store and physical copies are still readily available for around ~£15-£20 each, not to mention Yakuza 3/4/5 come bundled physically for around £15 total.

Not sure what they're going for with this - although, I do understand that the Xbox never got physical releases for most of the series and it's a debut on the Switch too, but the PS4 versions seem odd. Maybe it's just not for me, but for someone who doesn't own the games physically yet.

In a classic good news/bad news scenario, Infinity Nikki now has a release date (5th Dec), but is also confirmed to be free-to-play. 😑

Heard about this a while ago it's kind of sat in the back of my mind since then. I downloaded it ready a few days ago might give it a try later/over the weekend (might have to be weekend idk when the servers go up.) Looking forward to it!

My first guess was that it's probably going to be something to do with either streamers or pro gamers, but who knows?!

(I mean...TGC probably know, but yeah)

No, this is NOT an out of season April fools joke
It's no more bizarre than FFXV Pocket Edition, I suppose. Presumably the idea is for this to be a gateway drug to pull people over to the full-fat version.

More XIV definitely isn't what I wanted to see from the franchise next, considering it's already had an expansion this year.
