The Gaming News Thread (for news that doesn't need a thread)

An interesting piece on the fall of GAME in the UK, it has some insights from staff about some of the recent cock ups with certain pre-orders.

Probably the most indicative quote from the article from a staff member:
I gave up on GAME the moment they were bought up by sports direct dot com and my local store was shut down and turned into a tiny spec in the local sports direct store only to disappear and return in an even worse state (and their emails have said the same as it's just 99% crap and 1% games now).

Clear River Games will be releasing standard physical copies of Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter in Europe. Releasing Autumn 2025.

Limited Run Games are also doing a physical collector's edition for the game.

Glad to the see them confirm digital and physical backwards compatibility. Hopefully it will be a simple case of just logging into the same Nintendo account rather than something annoying like they had with the Wii U where you had to transfer the game.

I am guessing that they incompatible games will be ones that rely on components that attach to the joycon, as these are different shaped they won't fit with them anymore.

It looks like the screen is slightly larger, I am guessing 6.2" to 8" size. Doesn't look large enough to be 10" and at that size they tend to get too heavy.

Nintendo have finally revealed the successor to the Nintendo Switch.

Yep, that sure is a Switch with a 2 on it. Easily the most uninspired new console design Nintendo have ever produced. They haven't even fixed the most glaring ergonomic problems with the original: the cramp-inducing placement of the right stick and the widely spread d-buttons. This is a design that any tech company could have churned out; it's sleek, but has none of the old Nintendo personality. I'm sure it will be fine and will sell 100m units, but where is that spark of madness that put a carry handle on the GameCube or turned the DS 3D? We're truly in the post-Iwata era now.
