The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Here's a screenshot comparison. It doesn't bother me too much, personally, but I do like a bit of grain and wish Optimum/Madman or whoever authored the disc would just leave it alone.
Honest to goodness, why the **** would they do this? It deserves to be not bought on principle, especially when you can import it with subs anyway.

I'm guessing because they feel most people don't want the grain. If you look at the Nausicaa BD listing on Amazon.jp you'll see a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews, and a common complaint seems to be the graininess of the transfer.

Apparently Disney's US release of Nausicaa keeps the grain and looks very similar to the Japanese version, and it's region free, so assuming subsequent BDs follow suit that route may be a good and reasonably priced alternative for anyone who really hates DNR.

I can also see the classic "too red" argument being brought up on Amazon... I wonder if they fixed that, too. ^^;

I'm more of the opinion that most people don't care, and people who do care (negatively) only actually care about moaning, and would find something else (most likely "DNR is too heavy", once someone explained to them what it is) to moan about given the chance. Leaving the only group of people who actually should be catered to (those who care positively) out in the cold.

Slayers novel 4.

Waterstones had it in their clearance section for two pounds, so I decided to but it, and when I got to checkout it was 99p so I got a great bargain :D

Baccano BD box

I wasn't going to, even though not owning it would have bugged me, but I sold some old crap and raised the funds. It's only an upscale but it's definitely a marked improvement over Funi's DVDs and the best the show will ever look. I love Baccano.

I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed as region free. It had better be /o\

Region A Blu-ray preorders,
Rideback - Complete Series (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)
Baka & Test - Summon The Beasts Season One (Limited Edition DVD/Blu-ray Combo)

Region 1 DVD preorder
Project A-ko Mazinkaiser / Shuten Doji (2 Disc)
hey mangaman74 do you have a pic of your collection

Sorry not at the moment. Most of my dvds & blu-rays are in boxes anyway so it wouldn't be much to look at anyway - my brother has given my bedroom the nickname of cardboard city.

cancelled & reordered the following at Planetaxel,

Rideback - Complete Series (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)
Baka & Test - Summon The Beasts Season One (Limited Edition DVD/Blu-ray Combo)
Dragonball Z Kai - Season One Part 5 (Region A Blu-ray)
Gungrave - Complete Series (Classic) (Region A Blu-ray)

Since I originally ordered them, Planetaxel have started a $0.99 shipping promo - saved just under £10.00 by cancelling & reordering.

No would have surficed, it's 15 eps if it has the OVA.
The DVD (textless OPs/ED and 5 2 minute shorts) extras are 37 minutes, 35 sounds right for PAL
