Is Shonen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 49 not a candidate too? Ok, I'll admit that even I barely care about this title but it's a shame it's not been picked up here :(

Uhh I forgot about that (I guess MAL forgot to add it to their list (*face palm*)). I'll fix the post.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

Seems Rail Wars has gone down for non-subscribers as planned. Though it has also been removed for subscribers.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

A couple of quick questions;

a) Is Animax UK available on iPads?

b) Is it reliable? (eg. doesn't buffer much)

Huh? I wasn't able to watch it for the first week because it was locked to subscribers-only as part of their one-week premium viewing. Does Animax actually offer free simulcasts any more?

As keeping abreast of this streaming situation is driving me insane now, I made a table. It might have errors, but here's how I currently view our options in the UK. I really don't think the UK streaming services have taken the time to understand is how confusing the current situation is from the perspective of a potential customer; we have fewer simulcasts than the US but far more services providing exclusives, and it's a real headache to keep track of everything.

(Sorry for stretching the page, will fix tonight if it's bothering anyone.)

Edit: fixed.

Extra note which I pruned when redoing the file and editing this post:

**** Wakanim's payment options are pretty good but complicated as they don't work like any of the others. If you're not interested in DTO the credit system is offputting. Instead of credits for streams and DTO, I'd prefer them to be handled separately e.g. you can pay for a subscription to unlimited streaming of their catalogue which unlocks streams and grants ad-free playback, AND you can choose to buy credits for the DTO service on top or instead of the subscription. With this small change I think their paid service would be a lot easier to understand. Maybe it's just me.

Also, exclusives suck for fans as they lead to this situation where we are spread over half a dozen services.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

Not to mention we do have 1 anime movie heading to Netflix on August 1st (Space Pirate Captain Harlock), more titles heading to Animax UK (presumably both existing catalog titles once a week and the remaining Summer simulcasts), some more anime heading to Viewster at the end of the month and one more simulcast (presumably Hanamonogatari) plus two catalog titles with TBA regions (Great Teacher Onizuka being one of them) on Crunchyroll.

That being said, we are still being blocked off by Toei's hatred for the UK, TBS's hatred for the UK and Funimation gaining UK streaming rights.

I'll say that this season has been a massive improvement in contrast to the previous seasons (last year was quite disastrous).

@Rui, it's not stretching the thread on my screen (17'' 1080p FTW) but I might add that table to the first post, very useful.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

I had to drop Ping Pong on Animax as they never bothered freeviewing episode 7. As it is, I've finished up with Mekaku City (WTF was that!), and Soul Eater Not, and I won't be touching their service again.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

Yes rail wars was subscription only during the first week. I have a free account on animax, having used up my 2 week trial to finish up the Spring season before I went away for a while.

I don't think Animax's delays compared to US streaming times have ever been more than 5 days for series that were licensed from the start of the season. "<1 week" would probably be the most accurate way you could describe it.

I'm fairly sure they do have a schedule as well (about 80% of their simulcast episodes are over the same c.1 hour period as the most common time of release for its series, to the point where I have generally watched each episode several hours before they announced that they uploaded it), just it's not one that is publicly viewable. Even if they don't and it's merely a coincidence based on them getting the videos at the same time, the effect is the same.

Other than that it looks pretty accurate.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

Feel free to make use of the table if you want, NormanicGrav, I can always update the link in your post when I edit it later.

Animax not having a publically visible schedule is an annoying problem. I asked them once when things were going up and they said "at the same time as they air in Japan" which was obviously untrue; I like to plan my viewing so having to wait until the episodes air, pluck them out from the jumble and then mouse over them (only to be unable to find out when free viewers can actually watch them anyway, it seems) doesn't really work for me. I know that not all of these issues bother everyone equally. It also annoys me when the company social media accounts just spam automated messages promoting some random show instead of relaying actual information ;_;

Due to Animax's confusing nature and choice of shows I haven't been regularly checking there since I abandoned Magi in frustration ages ago, so if the delay is <1 week I'll add that to the table tonight. Thanks!

I hope the companies with a lot of red in the table are working on convincing me to make them green and start subscribing. It would be so good if we could pick and choose our favourite services, though - Wakanim's offering is so different to Crunchyroll's, for example, that I'd like to see both have more crossover in their catalogue to accommodate everyone's viewing preferences without needing to reinvent the wheel.

(While it's not directly related to the table I noticed that Viewster finally got both earlier episodes of Bakumatsu Rock up on their site; I hope they're true simulcasts from now on!)

Animax's Catalog title of the week is Buddy Complex, from the Winter 2014 era and another one of those Funimation titles. Interesting enough we already had legal access to this show thanks to Daisuki (it's a Sunrise title) but either way with Daisuki changing things around it wasn't going to last long on there anyway as quite a lot of the content was removed during the redesign launch earlier in the month.

So here's what Animax have picked up so far.

Winter 2014:
Buddy Complex
D-Fragments [D-Frag!]
No-Rin [Nourin]
Noragami

Spring 2014:
Daimidaler: Prince Vs. Penguin Empire
Dragonar Academy
Fairy Tail (Series 2)
Ping Pong: The Animation
Riddle Story of Devil
Selector Infected WIXOSS

Summer 2014:
Rail Wars
Re: Hamatora

Here is what's left of Funimation's titles:

Winter 2014:
Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.
Maken-Ki! Two
Nobunagun

Spring 2014:
Puchimas!!: Petit Petit iDOLM@STER (PUCHIM@S 2)

Summer 2014:
Barakamon
Sengoku Basara: Judge End
Shonen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 49
Tokyo ESP

I won't be surprised if Animax also happens to pick up Black Butler: Book of Circus considering that they managed to get Fairy Tail (Series 2).

-_-'..........It's going to take forever to get all those........don't forget I'm a anime collector.

Yes, see http://www.animaxtv.co.uk/special/new-simulcasts.

Hamatora and Rail Wars episode 2s haven't been added yet for subscribers and since the first episode of both have expired - both of these at the moment have no free simulcasts.

Given the date of this post, viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18556&start=150#p426155 - Rail Wars was only up for a week for subscribers and non-subscribers.

Don't forget I'm also an anime collector and I'm still frickin behind (I prioritise on LE sets first then the rest of the standard sets, hence why you see me getting Funimation sets more often).

It's not just the new stuff it's the old stuff too Im getting and there's alot of old stuff.

But it's easy to buy the cheap ones first in bundles and work your way up to the expensive ones later.......at least that's what I try to do

Thank you, I can live with an incorrect description!

*runs to watch it before they change their mind*

No way! That show is deceptively high quality, not even classing as a "guilty" pleasure imo.

I'm a big fan of the Fate franchise as it is, but three things totally got me about the show.

a) I just love how it's all just a shameless spoof of Madoka, and how it manages to pair that with all the key elements of the Fate franchise.

b) Rin. Because more Rin is always a brilliant thing.

c) Luvia's laugh. I've never LOL'd so hard at something in an anime. It's like the famous Tidus in FFX, but even more bizarre.

Re: Summer 2014 Streams - Buddy Complex (Animax: Catalog)

I figured I'd ask Animax about the missing titles, this is what they said:

@AnimaxUK Any news of the rest on your remaining Simulcasts? And will there be more catalog titles included soon?

@NormanicGrav hoping for more news on both this week
