Tron Legacy, 8/10.
I really really liked it. The direction was obvious, the acting was merely acceptable and the writing was exceedingly mediocre, but it made a great film. The Flynn family has definitely inflicted a virus since we last saw them, however - they all speak in lingo from the decade before they were. Jeff Bridges was indeed The Dude several times. The Lead Guy Who Looks Like Jensen Ackles From Supernatural speaks in '90s action movie slang, too. Quorra, played by Olivia Wilde was also a fun addition to the cast. I liked seeing them all interact, even if they were talking crap.
Crap, I understood and enjoyed though; a lot of the film is expository wherein they explain what has happened to The Grid, which I found interesting. There were ideas of Perfection (bit of Nazism) and God thrown around quite a bit as well.
Lest not forget how freaking self-indulgent it is either. It's almost on-par with the Lord of the Rings trilogy in that aspect. The camera lingers on its sexy CGI maybe a bit too often and Daft Punk's fairly good score drives us home way more than it should. This was not a Tron reboot, as that would have made financial sense, this is quite literally, a sequel of Tron. It takes the original, expands a bit and mostly just lets the central father/son dilemma of Star Wars take-over. With the difference being, the characters aren't as memorable. There are moments of awesome with them, but its let down by them meandering around a bit. Much like the original.
That said, like Star Wars (Ep IV), I could certainly do with seeing a couple of sequels to go with this. They can have my money already. If this doesn't bank enough, I'm sure the cartoon will somewhat suffice though. Not for my friend, however, who absolutely hated it and said it was too much like Star Wars. He even like the original more than me. Go figure?
(Also, saw a Scott Pilgrim showing with loads of other fans, some having seen it a number of times already at the cinema (me!!) introduced and followed by a Q&A with Edgar Wright. Twas amazing. My favourite film of the year. Certainly.)
