Tangled, 8/10*.
Lovely film. It takes a classic tale (one that it took them 50 movies to finally do) and gives it a modern sensibility, with some terrific animation. This is a film I've been following for a good few years now, I loved the original idea of taking the art and look of most of the Disney canon and updating it. The 3D is some of the best I've ever seen, honestly; the kids in the cinema were holding out their hands on a few beautiful scenes.
Going back to what I mentioned, its a mesh between the old and the new in a lot of ways - it features some very current humour, such as Flynn trying to hit on Rapunzel tied together with some adorable and funny songs that keep it Disney.
Performances were great, Mandy Moore (who I'm not familiar with) gave a strong performance but for me, Zachary Levi (Chuck!) carried the character of Flynn off with a lot of swagger and emotion. It worked very nicely. Songs were well-written, if brief and simply put, this is a really, really good film. Better than Disney Animation's other recent effort Princess and the Frog by quite a bit.
(*This 8/10 isn't comparable to Tron's 8/10, btw. If I did compare, this would remain an 8/10 and Tron would go down to about a 4/5. Fantastic Mr. Fox is still a 10.)

In short, this is a well-shot film, with some excellent performances, all about the little things that can interconnect lives in unexpectedly dramatic ways. Unfortunately the plot is a major let-down.
It's a struggle for me to explain why this film just doesn't deliver. The lives of four families come together in surprising ways... and that's pretty much it. The narrative device used just seems like an excuse to tell these different stories, nothing more, unless the suffering is supposed to be the unifying theme (and there is plenty of that).
If I'd watched the director's other films (21 Grams and Amores Perros) I suspect I'd like this less, as they reportedly use exactly the same "separate stories intertwine" technique.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. The theme was also fantastic, Sam Rockwell is a great actor and Kevin Spacey's role turned out completely opposite to my (and most ofthe audience's probably) expectations.

People should always be a bit apprehensive about sequels made a decade after the last, but this movie was quite good, it tries to avoid more obvious slasher flick cliches throughout, plus it's filled to the brim with unexpected plot twists, definitely one to see if you like your horror old school.

One I've been meaning to watch for years.
Not an easy film to watch, but compulsive viewing all the same. The only place where it didn't gel for me is that the ending seemed to pop up out of nowhere... The whole Ilena thing felt underused, and having it tied to the conclusion made things feel like they forced an ending out of it.
It might make sense to some, but I felt it was a little off.
Still, outstanding work from the Hughes brothers considering how young they were when it was made.

It's... not really worth that rating. The pacing is sloppy and the entire middle part can be cut out. It doesn't work as a mystery or suspense and it's a bit tedious. It's very very funny though. I also think the entire thing is something of a parody of the Saw/torture porn films which makes it 100x funnier.Will-O'-The-Wisp said:
