Gundam 00 Second Season - 8/10
Far less ambitious than the first season as far as the minutiae of its plot goes, but far more high concept as far as the overall expansion of Aeolia Schenberg's plan goes. The action ramps up, but this means that the slightly off-putting CG also ramps up. They introduce eminently shippable pairings like Mileina/Tieria, but for some reason at the end try to sell you on crazy things like Feldt/Setsuna. These checks and balances come out very much on the side of this being weaker than the first season, but the intrigue is still there in the plot, and the characters are still very easy to grow attached to.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie - A wakening of the Trailblazer - - 6/10
Only really the crazy excesses of the action scenes and the ridiculous levels of motion and sense energy from the animation keep this from being anything other than extremely bland. If you don't already love the characters from the TV series, it's probably not worth watching, if you do then it's hard not to be at least mindlessly entertained. Birdy the Mighty Decode (1-26) 8.5/10
I was always a fan of the old Birdy the Mighty OVA series. Sure the dub was crappy and Satomu was a whiny git, but the mere concept was fun, though, as fitting for a OVA it did feel a little claustrophobic.
Well the one thing the series isn't is claustrophobic!
Basically it is two different series, the second directly sequelling the first. For those who watched the OVA, the vast majority of the characters are new, and most of the old, aside from the central two are rather different. The initial feeling was that Satomu was IMMENSELY more likable and less whiny, which is a great start, and the story is much more open, and in general the series looks great.
The story (or stories) without spoiling, are pretty good. Watching the whole thing in 3 days as I did no doubt gives a different feel than 1 episode a week, but it comes across pretty good to me, with overarching story arcs rather than banial monster of the week. Indeed, the story really leaves me feeling as if we are rather insignificant in the universe, but equally creates its back story extremely well.
Downsides? Well I want more! there are some loose ends still to tie up. The ending of the first half, while good in general, had one slightly annoying moment. I think overall the first half series is slightly stronger, but it is marginal, but there is a lot more story to tell in that setup, and I do hope a 3rd series is on its way. Oh, and I'm sure fans of the OVA may have some initial issues with one character, but I adapted quickly. Also the dub is of very good quality for those who watch them.
Rather impressed in all. Definitely the best Anime series I have seen in a while, and it leaves me wanting more!

Gurren Lagann volume 3. AWESOME! they were throwing galaxies at each other for crying out loud. seriously jolly. harsh ending though, he goes through all that and she turns into little blocks just after they're married, then he becomes a bum. really harsh. oh well. 9 out of 10 from me.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - Episodes 18-21
Episode 18:
Starts off with the Gundam Thrones tearing **** up again. Okay, and Nena laughing? Well, if not for the already kill-crazy Hallelujah I'd say it was a nice touch; now I'd say Celestial Being must hire people with personal tragedy or a desire to kill.
Setsuna: Is this the kind of thing Gundams should be doing?
Well...like all mobile suits, they are weapons for war...so, yeah!
Also, what is up with this show giving black characters stereotypical voices? I'm white, and I'm even starting to find it annoying.
Oh look a wedding, Louise's call gets disconnected. No problem Saji? Aww how it's fun to laugh at the characters who haven't seen scenes we have. Nena just one-upped Hallelujah - innocent people, being happy? Perfect target xD
So quick, so powerful, and character development for Louise...and Saji? With how useless they were, it needed something big like this to finally get them going. Shame Saji had to go in all optimistic and whatever...he obviously had to ask someone what room she was in, he could have asked what happened, to avoid that really awkward moment...idiot.
Gundams vs Gundams? Sorry, but that bound to happen. Not surprising at all.
Episode 19:
Now the conflict isn't just Gundams vs Thrones, but within the original 4 meisters too! Hurray for Veda hacking; much plot twists. Although I have to wonder, how much does it cost to turn Nadleeh back into Virtue? Where does all that armour go?
A montage of Saji and Louise; as if they don't annoy me as it is. I have to say, this sudden turn for them seems really forced; like the writers had plans for season 2, but had to think of how to get there.
Lockon and Setsuna's confrontation was rather powerful.
This episode was actually pretty good; aside from Saji and Louise being in it. I can see the symbolism of "Outsides being forced into the war", but wasn't that already drummed in with Setsuna and Lockon?
Episode 20:
So, Santander moved from banks, and went into airports?
Also, why is Saji focusing on the loss of Louise's hand? I mean, it's not like she's suffering huge shock because her entire family was killed.
Aww, a three power alliance? Took them long enough. Still, 7 mobile suits caused that much panic? At least now the Throne's actions seem to make some kind of sense. Insiders within each major faction though...fun fun fun.
Didn't Miss. Crossroad's parents ever teach her not to get into cars with strangers? As soon as Ali Al told her who he was, she should have just jumped out of the car, y'know? No one gives THAT information away for free. And now, Saji has his personal tragedy. Silly woman, she said she wouldn't do anything reckless. Oh well, at least Saji and Louise have more in common now.
The Human Reform League (and the other powers, obviously) are a threat when in possession of GN drives indeed.
Episode 21:
Hard to feel sorry for Saji in the opening scene. Maybe if it wasn't followed directly by the rather fast paced "Ash Like Snow" I might have felt more sorry for him. Personally, I would have placed that brief scene somewhere towards the middle of the episode, rather than the start.
Setsuna day dreaming about Marina? There was so much hints of those two in the first season, it makes me want to smack Sunrise sometimes especially considering how they don't...
So now Celestial Being have taken away both of the people dear to Saji (Although his sister was indirectly). Is this what happens when you try and survive in a story without a role?
It was great to see Celestial Being fight and actually be on par with the enemy, instead of overpowering them like early in the series. Lockon proved how much of an awesome guy he is by defending Tieria. Although, I saw no logical reason for the Alliance to withdraw; they were winning!
Now this is what Gundam 00 should be like. This disc was a phenominal watch; but it could have been better if the earlier episodes hadn't made me lose all patience and sympathy for Saji and Louise.

Romeo X Juliet: Episode 1-10 = 10/10
I am really in love with this anime; it has a beautiful story, wonderful animation and a great lead character in Juliet. I love how while it is based on the bards classic play they are making it in to their own. Still wishing Romeo would develop a bit more, but still have 14 episodes left (Oddly that feels to short!)

The World God Only Knows - Complete - 8/10
Shockingly, this is the first series i've properly completed in ages. I have so many series to get back to finishing off because of damned uni that it's getting outta hand. However, this show was a great way to get me back into the swing of things. Really nice and easy watching.
The idea for it was simple enough, and one i guess at first i had no idea would work or not, but i'm glad it did. I wasn't sure how they'd do things after the first two arcs, but the third one and fourth ones, though obviously keeping to the same basic ideas, where so much better in quality. I'm guessing cause things where in full swing by then, but hey. I also like that, even though it's meant to be "real life vs date sim", you still find that the ends to each arc feel somewhat more date sim.
Keima is an interesting lead too, Elsie is pretty much what i expected her to be, well, despite jumping into the family by simply saying "I'm your daughter on your husbands side" and causing the mother to go into extreme rage but she is a tad bog standard for now. I expect that to change in the not to distant future. But back on Keima, i think what i find interesting about him is, despite his reluctance to be anything but a date sim otaku, or as he calls himself, the "God of Conquering", when it comes down to it, each arc leaves some impression on him, even if he does revert back every new arc, you can notice the subtle differences in him.
Season 2 looks like it'll mix things up some more as well, which i'm interested in seeing when it airs in the spring, but yeah, easy enough watch, very light hearted and fun and i highly recommend it to people who want something you don't need to put much thought into watching.

Can't help but be a little biased towards anime that had the effort of being drawn and not been stuck through a computer and thats one of the reasons i gave these decent scores, not much in terms of story but there was certainly some nice violence :lol:

Much better from Ghibli. Tales from the Earthsea, although not rubbish was a bit of a let down. Nice Sweet Story and the animation was superb, in fact that was an improvement from TFTE as well. Can imagine some people would find this a little too dull but Ghibli keeps me entertained with its standard of animation, I was in awe and they certainly are the benchmark

You know, when I first watched this about 4 years ago, I had already seen The Cat Returns and had also read some reviews and it didn't seem like it would be my thing really, but I gave it ago (I was rapidly going through the Ghibli stuff at the time) I'm glad I did, because I have always ranked it very highly. Watched it 3 times in the last week, just because I could, and it is a truly great film, really hits things home on the nostalgia front. Great stuff, and Yoshifumi Kondō left one great film for us before his death. Aside from a couple of Miyazaki's, my fave Ghibli film.

Lockon's injuries aren't life threatening, but is in intensive care...riiight. Thanks for making no sense. Nice to see Tieria feeling bad for his actions though; they probably stuffed him in intensive care just to get that result.
The dialogue in this episode felt a bit choppy; like certain characters were just made to talk. Also, can they say "Gundam" and "Veda" any more?
Nice music playing during The Thrones vs Russian Bear's Breakfast Club. Also, why is this battle being televised across the world - you don't see real wars being televised; just the odd stock footage.
This episode is really pushing forward the end of the Throne Meisters. As much as I hate them, they haven't been in the show for long. As they weren't around for long, I didn't real feel anything when Ali Al killed Michael and Johann; even when knowing that all their lives, they were just being used by Celestial Being.
Aeolia put himself in cold sleep, similar to Walt Disney. Except, unlike Walt Disney, he wasn't shot, nor did he found one of the famous famous animation companies. Shame about Aeolia's Plotkai giving Setsuna Trans-Am just as he was about to die. Would have been a fun plot twist.
Also, I swear the ending theme was like, 10 seconds longer at the start.
One thing I hate about Gundam dvds, is the gap between one episode ending and another beginning...
Episode 23:
I just realised...Nena's suit is designed so that her breasts are lifted...shame she has no redeemable qualities whatsoever xD

I don't know why, but that line was funny.
Battle starts off with the Tieria and Allelujah getting owned, which is more fun to watch; especially with Trans-Am Hallelujah.
This is one episode where Lockon isn't cool; his lust for revenge on Ali Al Saachez really is making him reckless. I mean really, who just flies straight in front of the enemies base and expects no one to try and counter him? This has become another one of those "You're just like me!" hero-villain relationships. It was Lockon's recklessness and his letting his emotions control him that caused his death.
His end speech to Haro before going to the GN Arms...really contrasted with how Lockon was only a few minutes ago when fighting Ali Al - a lot calmer. Lockon's final speech was touching, but the sudden change in character from his raging self, and the fact that if he wasn't so reckless, he wouldn't be drifting in space...I just can't feel as emotional about it as I was during my first viewing - also, that scene is so much better in the Japanese version. Now the Haro repeating "Lockon", THAT is sad.
At least Daryll got owned after doing nothing xD.
Then the upbeat sounding ending theme...really clashes with the way the episode ended.
Episode 24:
Beginning with a flashback. At least the Lockon Stratos codename was explained.
Tieria blaming Setsuna for Lockon's death. Good on Sumeragi to slap that purple-haired fool - if anything, he killed Lockon, as Lockon's eye wouldn't have been damaged if not for Tieria.
Soma's voice has always sounded iffy to me, but in this episode...it sounded like fandub quality.
"In a desperate bid for revenge, did you throw away your life, Lockon?" - Setuna
That's how to sum up Lockon's death. Rather pathetic really.
So this episode is the "Give backstories to characters who will die in the upcoming battle" episode.
UN pull out their dues ex machina, which erm...wow, that's a bit too powerful. Now, why didn't Christina and Lichty leave with Feldt, instead of just sit there to die? I'd feel for these characters dying, if they hadn't been background characters for the last 23 episodes. At least with people dying everywhere, it's like a real war now (Bleach's Tite Kubo might need to see this episode xD)
At least this episode elaborated that due to the Sick Bay being destroyed, Lockon would have died anyway - however, he would have had a much more honourable death; there was nothing honourable about his storming off, becoming engulfed in his desire for revenge.
Soma's suit supports her chest too...perverted military men.
Episode 25:
So, Feldt's pretty much under the impression that they've lost. To be fair, losing 3 friends in the space of two episodes.
Allelujah and Hallelujah working together is something that should have happened a long time ago, and man, is it scary when they do.
Setsuna and Lasse's fight with Alejandro Corner (which sounds like a porn star name) is a tad boring to be honest. A machine that was so frightening when it first appeared, hasn't completely destroyed one single Gundam - even Alejandro couldn't believe it! Nice logic Setsuna, accusing Alejandro of being behind all the world's distortion.
What is it with this show and eye injuries? It's like Tite Kubo and his fetish for tearing off arms.
And now Graham Aker joins the fight, for like...five seconds.
Hallelujah eh...is it possible for an alternate personality to die? Guess we found out xD
What's with Setsuna and Tieria having death speeches, and yet, they're not dead. Makes me think that Sunrise originally intended to kill off Setsuna and Tieria.
One great thing about this disc, is aside from random split second appearances - no Louise or Saji until the very end.
Overall, I found the final battle far too hectic, and the character deaths...I couldn't feel sympathy for. Lockon's, because it was due to his recklessness, with Christina and Lichty, they were just background characters really. The power levels were too inbalanced as well.
I'd give this disc a 7.5/10. Now, to give an overall score for Season 1:
Episodes 01-05: 7/10
Episodes 06-09: 8/10
Episodes 10-13: 8/10
Episodes 14-17: 6/10
Episodes 18-21: 8.5/10
Episodes 22-25: 7.5/10
Giving a total of 45/60 , which is 75%, or 7.5/10
I remember the second season being so much better. The problem with this series is, there are too many characters, and all the emotional storylines are given to said characters, which means you can't feel for them.
Lockon Stratos was my favourite Gundam Meister until this disc. Allelujah has returned to that role for me.

It was Lockon's recklessness and his letting his emotions control him that caused his death.
His end speech to Haro before going to the GN Arms...really contrasted with how Lockon was only a few minutes ago when fighting Ali Al - a lot calmer. Lockon's final speech was touching, but the sudden change in character from his raging self, and the fact that if he wasn't so reckless, he wouldn't be drifting in space...I just can't feel as emotional about it as I was during my first viewing - also, that scene is so much better in the Japanese version. Now the Haro repeating "Lockon", THAT is sad.
At least Daryll got owned after doing nothing xD.
Then the upbeat sounding ending theme...really clashes with the way the episode ended.
Episode 24:
Beginning with a flashback. At least the Lockon Stratos codename was explained.
Tieria blaming Setsuna for Lockon's death. Good on Sumeragi to slap that purple-haired fool - if anything, he killed Lockon, as Lockon's eye wouldn't have been damaged if not for Tieria.
Soma's voice has always sounded iffy to me, but in this episode...it sounded like fandub quality.
"In a desperate bid for revenge, did you throw away your life, Lockon?" - Setuna
That's how to sum up Lockon's death. Rather pathetic really.
So this episode is the "Give backstories to characters who will die in the upcoming battle" episode.
UN pull out their dues ex machina, which erm...wow, that's a bit too powerful. Now, why didn't Christina and Lichty leave with Feldt, instead of just sit there to die? I'd feel for these characters dying, if they hadn't been background characters for the last 23 episodes. At least with people dying everywhere, it's like a real war now (Bleach's Tite Kubo might need to see this episode xD)
At least this episode elaborated that due to the Sick Bay being destroyed, Lockon would have died anyway - however, he would have had a much more honourable death; there was nothing honourable about his storming off, becoming engulfed in his desire for revenge.
Soma's suit supports her chest too...perverted military men.
Episode 25:
So, Feldt's pretty much under the impression that they've lost. To be fair, losing 3 friends in the space of two episodes.
Allelujah and Hallelujah working together is something that should have happened a long time ago, and man, is it scary when they do.
Setsuna and Lasse's fight with Alejandro Corner (which sounds like a porn star name) is a tad boring to be honest. A machine that was so frightening when it first appeared, hasn't completely destroyed one single Gundam - even Alejandro couldn't believe it! Nice logic Setsuna, accusing Alejandro of being behind all the world's distortion.
What is it with this show and eye injuries? It's like Tite Kubo and his fetish for tearing off arms.
And now Graham Aker joins the fight, for like...five seconds.
Hallelujah eh...is it possible for an alternate personality to die? Guess we found out xD
What's with Setsuna and Tieria having death speeches, and yet, they're not dead. Makes me think that Sunrise originally intended to kill off Setsuna and Tieria.
One great thing about this disc, is aside from random split second appearances - no Louise or Saji until the very end.
Overall, I found the final battle far too hectic, and the character deaths...I couldn't feel sympathy for. Lockon's, because it was due to his recklessness, with Christina and Lichty, they were just background characters really. The power levels were too inbalanced as well.
I'd give this disc a 7.5/10. Now, to give an overall score for Season 1:

I remember the second season being so much better. The problem with this series is, there are too many characters, and all the emotional storylines are given to said characters, which means you can't feel for them.
Lockon Stratos was my favourite Gundam Meister until this disc. Allelujah has returned to that role for me.
Tales from Earthsea 7-10
Some know my feelings for this Anime - namely that I don't consider it that bad. Indeed, this rewatch just confirms what some people complain at me about - I still consider it a pretty good film, and better than the one I consider Hayao's weakest, Porco Rosso (Cue nuclear warfare) It is not perfect by any means, it is rare I consider films too long, but this one is a little, but that does give it a nice feel of a character piece, and it looks better than any other Ghibli film since spirited away (Though Ponyo looks great, in a very different way) Not perfect, but not the devil incarnate like some suggest.
Howl's Moving Castle 7.5-10
I loved this when I saw it at the cinema about 6 years ago, and it is still a very good film, but with recent rewatches, including this one, it has lost a little bit of its shine for me. I think that is mainly due to Miyazaki's mangling. Having read the book now (post my first watch) Miyazaki, bluntly, wanted very little to do with it and basically threw the book plot out the window, but kept much of the opening the same. (I'm sure fans of the book were in uproar at the time) The change of tone is rather noticable as the film progresses, and it does occasionally end up a little bit of a mess. However it is pretty good fun, though I felt the characters were not quite all that which they could be. After a few years to settle in, still a great film, but one of Miyazaki Senior's weaker efforts. (High testament to how good most of his output is mind you.)

Ikki Tousen - 4/10
Romance of the Three Kingdoms: The High School Years. Or something. Not being familiar with the story on which Ikki Tousen is very loosely based, all I had to explain to me what the hell was going on were the portentous ramblings of the narrator.
Pro-tip: if you're going to make a fighting anime, at least spare some effort to animate the fights. There are only so many stills, speed lines, and other shortcuts I can take before I start to wonder what the point is.
Oh, wait, the fanservice. Ikki Tousen fares a bit better on that count, but the unrefined art and character designs undermine that as well.
As for the story, well, it's only been a couple of weeks since I finished the series and I've already forgotten it. The tone of the show wavers between serious and downright silly, and I never quite knew what to make of what was happening. It earns an extra point for being so unashamedly proud of what it is, and for Carrie Savage's memorable performance as Hakufu. Really, the only reason I watched this series is because the sequel is supposedly much better, which leads me onto...
Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny - 7/10
And it really is much better. For one thing, Dragon Destiny seems to have a budget (and some talented staff): character designs are sleeker and sexier, the art is more refined, and the fights are much more dynamic and creatively staged. Director Koichi Ohata is responsible for some of anime's most horrendous travesties, so I wasn't expecting much when his name appeared during the opening credits... but this is easily the best work of his I've seen.
Not only does it look a hell of a lot better, the story benefits from a much darker tone (though the series isn't without its lighter moments). It's not going to win literary awards or anything, but it kept me vaguely interested through to the end.
A special mention must go to the OP and ED, especially the ending. Famed nipple-meisters Kinji Yoshimoto and Satoshi Urushihara turn out a beautifully designed and animated sequence with some of the most hilarious peanut smuggling I've ever seen. Bravo, gents.

Basically I recommend him anime and he recommends me horror films, so think of it as a discussion between a pundit and a relative newcomer. I haven't posted any of the previous ones as we've still been tinkering with the format, but now that youtube have restored our unlimited upload length, I think we're getting somewhere.
Also linking this rather than embedding so as no-one has to unecessarily suffer the full horror of what I actually look like.
