demon city shijuku

its a old style anime 90s and its basicly a good vs evil movie ( evil guy wants to take over the world using, you killed my farther and i want revenge you know the good old good vs evil )
Demon City Shinjuku was made in 1988, but visually it has aged remarkably well. It isn't Kawajiri's best film, which may or may not be the fault of the source material, but I still like it for having the dark atmosphere of Wicked City and none of the rape.

I miss the days when people still gave Kawajiri money to make films like that.

At the very least, I hope there's still some chance of seeing his "Ninja Ten Battles" thing.

magical witch punie-chan

this anime makes exel saga look classy this anime is so crazy. its about a magical girl who looks sweet and innocent but really is a physio witch.

Summer Wars 8/10

Madhouse can never be faulted for visual flair and I really liked that despite the whole internet war thing (which was MASSIVELY reminiscent of the Digimon movie...) it was, at its core, a film about family, which I really liked. It was quite heartwarming too and when the final punch connected it was IMMENSELY satisfying :p

I just wish I understood hanafuda before the climax...boy that was confusing.

He's less prolific than Oshii these days. Highlander wasn't too long ago, and proved he's still got it. I still haven't given up hope for Ninja Scroll 2, though Kawajiri is likely to be a pensioner by the time he gets around to it.

yeah, but I think it was presented in a way which didn't require knowledge of the game. Which is more than I can say for Casino Royale. I mean texas hold em ain't a hard game to pick up but if you don't know how it's played you're surely going "wait, was that a good hand? I don't..." at least with e-hanafuda good hands would flash and bad ones shatter/ glow red. And Koi koi is a good thing I guessed :p

They could have bundled a hanafuda rulebook in with the international release xD

I just couldn't take it seriously because I kept on thinking about Koi carps.

Yeah I wondered if it was like japanese "go fish" and koi koi meant "go fish" :p

Embarrassingly, I've still not watched Highlander, even though I own the DVD now and everything. It's shameful.

It would be lovely if they could get Ninja Scroll 2 out, but at this point, I'd be happy just to see him make anything new at all, instead of being relegated to odds and ends on the Marvel adaptations. :(

I'm just as bad, I've got GITS 2 sitting here, and not watched it. More or less saving it for a 'mecha season' now.

Maybe we should start a new forum game 'Guess AF's anime rating'.

Sounds like another gem you've dug up there AF.

Do these kind of anime really get western DVD releases? The anime you review seem to be getting steadily more bizarre sounding by the day.

I can vouch for the existence Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan as it's a show I also own on region 1 dvd. It must have been popular as it was first released sub only but has since been rereleased with an English dub track as well (although I'm not sure how good the dub is as the picture on the back of the box on Planetaxel lists it as an 'English Laungage Dub  ). Both the sub only and the newer dvd release contain seasons 1 & 2.

Haha, so it does. Good old Media Blasters.

Dokuro-chan is a parody of "magical girlfriend" anime, and it is hilarious.

From wiki

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan tells the story of a 13-year-old junior high schooler, Sakura Kusakabe, who, twenty years in the future, while attempting to create a "Pedophile's World" forces all women to stop aging after the age of twelve, offends God by the side effect of having created immortality. Dokuro Mitsukai, a member of an order of assassin angels that are called Rurutie, has been sent from the future to kill him. Believing that Sakura can be redeemed, Dokuro decides instead to keep Sakura so occupied that he can never develop the immortality technology. Due to her impulsive nature and super-human strength however, she frequently kills him with her gigantic spiked kanabō (club), Excalibolg, on a moment's impulse, but returns him to life moments later with angelic power. Sabato, another assassin of the Rurutie order who uses her feminine wiles to do her job, is dispatched to complete Dokuro's original mission: Sakura's assassination

..... :| .....I never ceased to be amazed........wow just wow.
