PSN update from Sony - Not good news.

This whole affair is really getting tiresome. Look, take my identity, empty my bank account, give me cyber AIDS, whatever. Just give me PSN back so I can play Motorstorm goddamnit.

Okay, not the cyber AIDS. Anything but that

Hahaha, 4chan? Seriously! Hahahahaha.

They claim it isn't them though. Someone framing them apparently.

Considering Anon is a collective entity, its fine for the majority of the regulars to say "it wasn't us" but who's to say another member of anon didn't take it upon themselves to pull the attack?

I doubt it was one guy, a small team of about 4-8 hackers collectively putting codes together to hack the system.

Similar to a ping bomb i guess, you can find out a routers password by overflowing it with requests, it ends up giving data back eventually. (still half asleep but yeah essentially they overload the router with requests and attain a way into the system)

Anyway, sources are saying by the end of the week they'll have the psn coming back in segments (so don't expect your friends to pop up, or be able to download films, or to message anyone. the network is said to be coming back bit by bit so you'll probably find the most you can do is log in and access the ps store, not friends, home, message each other or films till next week some time)

They said the store won't be available for some times yet. I hope we don't get the free PS+ until the store is actually back...

Where've you heard that? Yes its coming back in segments but its not going to be a long time.

And they'd have one hell of a problem if they started up the PS+ without the store being online. Already annoyed gamers getting further annoyed.... i dread to think of the millions of emails they'd receive.

From Sony; I'm sure I or someone else posted it up somewhere. They said that the friends list and online gaming will be back, but that the PSN Store will not be back up straight away. It's easy to say it's not gonna be a long time; but we'll just need to wait and see I suppose.

It was Arby, posting the announcement thats already on the Playstation website.

There's been someone spreading rumours that its going to take over a month to be fixed. I've seen from many sources that by the end of the week they plan to start the welcome back process (as in, turning the servers on again)

The initial wave of services going up are the following:

Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
-This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
Access to account management and password reset
Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
PlayStation®Home
Friends List
Chat Functionality

This is what they have set as definite when they start it up, but it's not limited to just that. There is a chance that some other sections will be included also, but nothing noted as of yet. So we will have a small wait to go before the PSN store is actually back up.

Which is what I was saying :D

Hopefully the PS+ stuff won't activate until the store is up, still.

Important step for service restoration!

Today the global network and security teams at SNE (sony network entertainment) and SCE (sony computer entertainment) have finalised the last stages of internal testing of the new system, an important step towards restoring the PSN.

Additional updates will come through soon.

Of course, thanks to all this, Sony are gonna go crazy with the security now to ensure it doesn't happen again.

And yet, the hackers are apparently planning to attack sony again for "the way they handled the original hacking". The way they plan to do this? Publicise the data they hacked. This is apparently the third wave of the attack and the reasoning people believe is the cause of even more PSN delay.

A lot of people think we may not get the PSN store until june, and access to the general PSN this month, but it's hard to say. Me brother also mentioned to me that there would be free games offered for both the PS3 and PSP, but i would take that with a grain of salt until i can get it fully confirmed.

It has been confirmed on Sony's Playstation blog. PS3 users get to choose two free games out of a selection of five and PSP users get 2 free games out of a selection of four. No word n the games themselves though.

Good work Max and Rog.

"I know you all want to know exactly when the services will be restored. At this time, i can't give you an exact date, as this will likely be a few days more. We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work through this process"

Basically a pointless blog, though they maybe holding off giving an exact date incase the information was seen by the hackers and they mount another hack.

Pointless though it may be, pr is always better than no pr. (Usually).

This is true.

And from browsing the webs, it seems that Anonymous where to blame for it, as it stands Anonymous is in a civil war between members right now, one side heavily opposing the other for reasons such as "OpSony" and the fact some members where abusing Anonymous for their own gains, to try and become some sort of figurehead of the collective hive.

Imo i support the side that disliked OpSony, On the Sony Servers attacked one was found with folder titled "Anonymous" enclosed a .doc file with the Anon "chant".

Its seems most thoughts that an "organization" like Anon would be the only known group capable of orchestrating such an attack, where correct. Though in statements from certain admins of the Anon websites/servers have stated, it was never about the money aspect. they didn't mean to harm the general public, they where objecting against Sony for the Sony updates that removed the "other OS" feature that used to be on the ps3's. Sony where also taking hackers to court over cases where hackers had modified their systems to run dual boot or homebrew "upgrades"

Expected date for the system to be back up is currently 31st of May, though with the Official statements not able to confirm this, it's still a case of the only game SCEE gamers will be collectively playing is "the waiting game".

Will post any updates that come through (phone gets instant updates direct from sony blogs)
