UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

Again: Drifters has been announced by Universal Germany for October 11, 2018. So expect a multi-ligual complete box hitting UK in October...

I suspect Universal held onto the two shows that had a better chance of shifting. I'd be on board for Drifters. Netoge I will definitely pick up.

Just a heads up that MVM clarified some details regarding their upcoming Flip Flappers collectors bd. Apparently the 288 page art book will remain the same as Sentai's release, but the hard case won't have the same metallic finish, nor will the bookmark have the lenticular design.

It's a tad disappointing, particularly regarding the case, but if access to the same production tools or original assets aren't available I totally get why trying to create specialist items for a niche title in a market the size of the UK would be economic suicide. I'll take a cheaper product over most of Sentai's daft trinket-filled releases (although I admit Flip Flappers is probably their best to date due to focus on sleek design and production materials).

I already assumed the box wouldn't be shiny and I wasn't expecting a bookmark at all so I'm fine with it!

Any word on art cards?

I recall a similar case with A Lull in the Sea where the box is the usual whereas the US version had the glitter effect. It's probably too expensive for MVM to sort out so I can understand their version basically being the standard box without the fancy effects.

Also a lot thinner/flimisier.

I didn't ask about those so I'm unsure, although I don't believe Amazon UK's description includes them, so I wouldn't be too optimistic. For all I know they could have just added those illustrations into the art book, if they weren't in there already.

Yeah, it's nothing but a nice finishing touch, so I wouldn't be greatly swayed either way. Besides, I pre-ordered the show during Anime Online 20% MVM sale and feel I got more than enough of a bargain considering the content. I'll take a stripped back release any day over some of Sentai's bloated tat sets. Why anyone would want a Gate ammunition case or Sakamoto themed school-socks is completely beyond me. The lenticular bookmark was lovely though, although that's probably more of a sign of the type of nerd I am. Plus, I'd probably be too scared to use the darn thing.

Who knows, I might buy the Sentai set one day, although that's not a knock on MVM. Flip Flappers was my favourite show of 2016, and I could easily see myself buying multiple copies if there are slight differences. I'm likely to do the same with Land of the Lustrous when that gets released

I agree I'm glad MVM equivalents aren't as oversized or filled with useless tat, just give me the booklet and maybe a soundtrack and I'll be happy.
