Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Rewatch)

EP20
Interesting episode, the story of a vaccine which would cure a disease but being suppressed isn't as unlikely as it would seem.

The fact that companies which offer a competing product being able to pull in DEA operatives is interesting. The shooting and framing of civilians for clouded means is also possible... Overall a good way of kicking off the final run to the end of the series.

EP21
Fantastic episode. I guess the main thing to take from that is don't f*uk with the major! Great action sequence very reminiscent of the think tank scene from GITS. The plot thickens with the government being directly tied into the scheme. The arm suit sequence is great, as is the scene with the laughing man finally being truly revealed.

One thing that bugs me though - The Laughing Man looks pretty young, so how young was he 6 years ago when he commited that crime on TV? lol.

How young do you think the Major is? Or the Russian spy ep19? He could be a cyborg.

The fight reminded me of the first Ghost in the Shell film too, actually (If I'm remembering it correctly).

It was actually the fiorst time watching it that I had that thought, too. The part where Motoko runs towards the arm suit as it's generously peppering the place with bullet holes is a very obvious homage to that scene fromt he first Oshii movie.

Speaking of nods and homages, there's a certain signature shot that I've always equated with Ghost In The Shell, namely taht of the Major falling down awat from a building while looking up at the camera. It AMAZED me that the studio held off until Solid State Society to reference that shot again.

Upto episode 11.

Have to say, #10 has been my favourite episode so far, mostly for the focus on Batou's mindset.

Excellent stuff all round though.

Wow you're ripping through man, that's great :)

Yeah Ep #10 is definately a highlight of the series - if I had to show someone just one episode of the 1st GiG to persuade them to watch it - this'd probably be the one.

Yeah, I've called it quits for tonight (my Ms. was watching Hellcats or something on her laptop so I stuck GITS on), finished the third disc, so thats Episode 12 done too, love the beginning of that one, I think I'm nearly upto where I got to previously before being sidetracked by something else.

No sidetracking this time! You'll catch up soon at this rate ;)

I'm assuming people are willing to carry this on to the 2nd GiG as well, right?

EP22
Another good one, Aramaki is trapped and almost framed, and the Major almost killed. The Major also meets the Laughing Man "face to face".

The episode also uses one of my favourite tracks flashback memory plug, which I use as my ringtone on my phone :)

Episode 23

Another great episode. I'd totally forgot it was Motoko all along - it was genius! The plot is really hotting up now. Only 3 more episodes to go before the first GiG is over though!?

Ep23
Typing on phone will add more.
Good episode finally the pieces begin to fall into place. The history between the laughing man and sereno is interesting. Impressive hacking skills by the major too. The revelation of the kingpin in the conspiracy shows how far up the corruption goes.

Well poo, pants and bum.

I went to watch episode 22 tonight (one of my favourites for the amazingly off-hand woman-through-plate-glass takedown) and discovered...

The disc has suddenly and inexplicably developed a small scratch that causes the episode to skip about randomly.

I am MOST annoyed. I mean, I take good care of my discs. Obssessively so in fact. It's been loaned out precisely ONCE, and this is what happens. DEEP SIGH.

I wouldn't mind, but I've had more scratched disc problems with anime than in years of buying western feature films.

EP24,
I find this episode quite sad, the govenment turns on section 9 and they are forced to go on the run. The sad part is seing them being taken down one by one.

Episode 24

Man, I'm with Hokum on this - it's a really sad episode. It's crazy to see Aramaki get so emotional - and a glimpse of how much Batou cares for the Major.

I can't wait to get the next episode on tommorow. I assume everyone who's still taking part will be up for starting the Second GiG on Saturday?

I'm looking forward to tomorrows EP and also not at the same time. Its a damned good episode, but I know i'll be sobbing by the end and red eyed...

I've forgot what happens so I'll be severely affected I think o_O

Watched ep.#14 last night, not really sure what to make of it, kind of struggled through it before going to sleep as the credits finished (missed Tachikoma Days :( )

I liked 14, that’s the one with the assassin with the spring gun which fires coins?

I liked how Batou hacked the security dogs eyes to make them think he was their master. The only thing I felt the episode lacked was some motivation for Fem.

I originally watched this EP on fansub and the subbers had put a huge explanation of the YES and other currencies after the last world war.
