Gaming Arrival Thread

The other day I got Devil Kings and SOS the Final Escape.

SOS is great, had it before but didn't get too far, nearly completed it this time.

Devil Kings is.. shocking. Thank gawd I only paid £10 new, should get most of that back from Gamestation (they're selling it for £30).

Neverwinter Nights 2 comes out on Friday I have ordered the play.com super size pack with loads of extras I really hope it turns up early like thursday as I am working Friday and hate waiting til I get home from work to try out a new game

Got Pokemon Ranger(DS) yesterday. I however forgot about Final Fantasy XII and I didn't buy it. Today I went to EB Games, Microplay, and just about every store that sells video games in my Area, no luck FFXII SOLD OUT

Just got an e-mail saying that i should get Disgaea 2 delivered to me on friday morning, so just waiting for that to arrive and should get the artbook with it

Picked up The Movies recently and started playing it yesterday. Its actually pretty good, but I have only scraped the surface so far. Other studios are beating the pants off of me, but its nice to pick up an award for 'Best Looking Studio', and to think that I thought that writing the studios name in flowers by the main gate was overkill/boredom ...

It seems so far that it has risen up to the challenge of being one of the few really good management games out there. Everything Tycoon is pure ********* except for the Railroad Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon franchises, Dungeon Keeper is getting on a bit now and was too tricky to manage the critters anyway, and never managed to make you feel like an evil overlord that much, Evil Genius was frustrating and un-fun, and Black & White never really delivered.

I do think The Movies is on the right track when it comes to managing your staff - you feel that you are actually in control, and that you can genuinely cater for them. Though its kind of tough that my main stars are over-worked, over-stressed and never were that good in the first place. I love the movie reviews when you release a film - when one critic's arrow struck home stating that he is tired of seeing my main actors face in everything (ouch).

Also Railroads dropped in the door today. Looks like my system isn't up to it though ... ouch. Bad time for my credit card to expire.

Serious Sam 2 is starting to really frustrate now that I am getting to the end. I hate mindless endurance fights.

Railroads is class! Its a very interesting departure from the excellent Railroad Tycoon 3 but I can imagine some fans not being impressed.

Its not so much that it oversimplifies the game, but it refocuses it on what is important, and it also removes many annoyances - like the destruction of property when you build a railroad through a town. That 'feature' won't be missed. People might dislike the simplification of the freight model - only one product gets processed into another, like delivering coal to steel mills gets you steel, rather than in RT3, 1 coal + 1 iron ore = 1 steel. However the simplification of the industry model means that advanced industrial processes are feasible. They almost never were in RT3, where you just might be able to get steel to a tool&die shop to make goods that you can deliver to any city. Thats about as fancy as it got. You can go all the way with Railroads. In fact being a Steel Mogul is plenty lucrative.

It looks lush. This is model railways. And that seems to be where the game imposes its real challenges. Track congestion is your main enemy, and somethign that you really have to deal with. Laying double and triple track starts to become pretty essential on you industrial backbone (its actually a bit finicky to do it though). Its way more challenging than RT3, where having 2 stations per city is a common tactic (one for freight the other for express). Also in RT3 trains can pass on single track (sidings are implied) - no joy here - one train only per unbroken piece of track. Avoiding sharp turns and inclines is the other major factor too.

The flip side of the routing challenge is that trains can self-route very intelligently. I could never get my RT3 trains to use my relief tracks.

The only major problem is that you need a beast of a machine to deal with the graphics. My Minimum Spec is totally below par. I can't imagine the recommended spec cutting it when the map gets busy either. I am at a loss as to where the problem is - just boring old memory perhaps?

I bought the Dark Messiah game with the last bag of monney I had lying in my room

That was the best part of the game.

I tried installing it - couldn't read disk, Downloaded it - took a hole day, played it - was buggy as hell its unbelivable that Ubisoft relased a game in this state,

wait whats that I hear you say? theres a patch? alrightey lets download that and try installing it - Cannot find Darkmessiah.exe or some clap trap

All I can say is: ...

I know the feeling - dying to get at the cars too. Looking forward to a few new games on the horizon for my DS too like Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin Multiplayer, Final Fantasy III, and Spectrobes. Any thoughts? comments? on any of them besides the hype.

I have those games on DC and love them! Though I haven't bought the PSP version because I don't have the money to buy games twice right now. Hope you enjoy them!

I got Steambot Chronicles and Everblue 2 the other day.

Steambot Chronicles lets you deck out your mech with bunny ears and punch other mechs in the face with a spiked flail.. all it needs is some zombies and catgirls and the next generation of consoles can take a running jump.
